So you were arguing with people who you claimed were derailing the thread, thereby further derailing the thread

No, I wasn’t arguing with anyone. It was just a snarky observation. I couldn’t care less if the thread gets derailed.

Cool. Another three pages debating China’s response, which was shitty, to avoid admitting our own response has been shitty as well
Are you equating the responses? How many people have we killed or silenced to stop word of the spread of this virus?

You just keep deflecting. Really coming off as a CCP sympathizer.

Regardless of what your “main point was” you said all those things I pointed out

No, the respective responses were shitty in their own unique ways.

My point, which is the same point I’ve been belaboring In this thread, is China has no obligation to us. Our government does, and they failed us. But so many want to talk about China’s mishandling while excusing away our government’s. And even despite China’s dishonesty and burying of facts, we had more than enough info to act, yet other than a travel ban to and from China for Chinese nationals, we didn’t do much.

If the Stanford study is accurate, (and it appears that the anecdotal evidence is falling in line with it) the virus is even more contagious than first believed and a lot less lethal. That doesn’t change these facts: certain segments of the population are extremely susceptible to it. Age seems to be a critical factor along with underlying conditions. The latter is to be expected, the former is not so cut and dried. The mortality rate for a person aged 40-49 is double that of a person 30-39. From age 50-59 it triples from the 40-49 rate. That can’t be explained by simple aging.

Close quarters conditions are certainly conducive to spread. Places like a meat packing plant and modern urban living and large gatherings are explosions of cases.

While there appears to be much more widespread caseload than previously thought, there’s not enough for herd immunity yet and we are still struggling with and will continue to struggle with this for a while.

Tuscaloosa's numbers are relatively good. Well over 2k tests and only 144 cases. Maybe being next to Jefferson had some effect?

Actually the derailment of this has always started with the far left and/or anti Trump posters. Going all the way back to how Costa Rica was a better country.

I do believe many on here(including myself) think our government from local to federal could have done a better job of handling this but again I have been around long enough to not expect any different outcome no matter who is in charge. But the issue of derailment seems to come from just a few who have issues with Trump and look for any opportunity to attack him.

I am not sure why some can not keep their political beliefs out of the discussion. And for the record as an independent I can play devil's advocate against either side.

Ban-hammer should be used much more quickly and with stiffer penalties.

Dozens of grocery store workers have died from the coronavirus, despite masks, temperature checks and capacity restrictions to keep them safe. So far, supermarkets have resisted the most draconian policy: banning customers from coming inside.

However, some worker experts, union leaders and small grocery owners believe it has become too dangerous to let customers browse aisles, coming into close range with workers. Grocery stores are still flooded with customers, and experts say it's time for large chains to go "dark" to the public and convert to curbside pickup and home delivery for food and other essential goods.

"Careless customers" are "probably the biggest threat" to workers right now, according to Marc Perrone, president of the United Food and Commercial Workers' union. The union said 85% of its grocery store member workers reported that customers are not practicing social distancing in stores.

"Anything that reduces the need for interaction with the public and allows for greater physical distancing will ultimately better protect grocery workers," said John Logan, professor and director of Labor and Employment Studies at San Francisco State University. "Shuttering stores and repurposing them for pickup and delivery only would be a positive step."

I have said this from the start and with unions getting involved it will probably end up that way. And for the record I am anti-union.

Tennessee is making sure everyone gets tested for the coronavirus -- even if they don't show any symptoms. At least two drive-thru testing centers were open yesterday. All tests were free and done within the safety of a car. Lines were long, and organizers say they moved about 100 cars an hour at one testing site.

Walmart will require all workers to wear face coverings starting Monday as the coronavirus pandemic ravages communities nationwide. The CEOs of Walmart and its Sam's Club wholesale stores made the announcement in a statement Friday. Customers will also be encouraged to cover their faces, although it will not be mandatory. Walmart will provide all employees with a face covering, or they can bring their own.

Reopen NC, a Facebook group with more than 50,000 followers that feels the government's reaction to the coronavirus has been overly restrictive, has planned weekly protests in North Carolina until businesses will reopen.

In a statement sent to WRAL News, the group's lawyer said, "My clients are planning to reconvene their protest of the quarantine orders this Tuesday, April 21, 2020, and every Tuesday thereafter, until such time as they conclude that their concerns have been addressed."

I have issues with this. They know they will not be arrested because the jails are trying not to bring in new people due to it spreading. The federal prison in NC has more cases then any other prison in the country.

First responders will have to deal with this and puts them in a situation of possibly being exposed.

This right here is why you can not open things back up so quick. People are just stupid and unless force to will not follow guidelines. This is Jacksonville FL beaches only a hour after they reopened them this weekend.

That doesn't look to bad. And I watched the live feed the other day for about twenty minutes and it wasn't bad either.
