He played in 8 games according to the participation chart.

This was an odd thing to say.
Why do you think it was odd to say Lloyd has the job locked down?

Well, he didn't start last year and we have a lot of new guys that you want competing for jobs. One started at LT in the SEC.

It is interesting in this day and age of not revealing anything and promoting competition.
You have to assume Lloyd is looking amazing out there to warrant this response. Like it’s not even worth going through the ruse

If Grubb is saying it publicly, I'm sure the guys in the locker room already know it. Regardless, if you stop competing just because someone is named a starter, you're probably not going to be successful at this level anyway.

Yeah, but he struggled at times. I know the raw stats look okay (6 penalties overall and 3 sacks and 25 pressures over 467 pass-blocking snaps), but he also had a 62.0 pass-blocking grade and a 57.8 run-blocking grade.
Maybe Lloyd has just looked that much better in practice?

Grubb is either an idiot or they made Lloyd a guarantee so that he wouldn't leave.

They aren't even in pads yet

So? They saw him in pads plenty last year.

There is another possibility. Maybe Lloyd is dominating. I have no idea. I don’t see how someone can dominate when they haven’t even put on the pads. But maybe he is. Maybe it’s one of the other options you mentioned. Ever since the Indiana game, I have taken the position that I will wait and see the product on the field and not get my hopes up about anything. I think it will be better on my blood pressure during the games next fall with this approach!

So, how has the transfer from MSU looked in practice?

Who knows, but they have plenty of tape on him as well (he's played in 26 career games with 21 starts). Maybe he is what he is at this point and they brought him in to ensure they have an experienced backup if Lloyd doesn't pan out.

How could he not pan out, he's already locked the position down.

You guys will honestly bitch about anything.
Grubb says Lloyd has locked down the LT position and you complain.
If Grubb had said no one has really stood out, you'd probably be gnashing your teeth and whining that we're doomed.
There's no winning with you guys. Maybe chill out and not melt over a comment made in fricking March.
