AL.com article by Beat Writer Matt Zenitz

quote:

The media isn't allowed to watch Tide scrimmages. However, sources told AL.com that Hurts had a touchdown run of around 50 yards and a nicely-thrown scoring pass of around 50 yards to wide receiver Robert Foster against Alabama's third-team defense. He also led a long drive into the red zone vs. the first-team defense during a two-minute drill before throwing an interception with no time left on the clock. Those weren't Hurts' only impressive moments Saturday.

quote:

Bateman, according to sources, threw two interceptions, including one that was returned for a touchdown by freshman defensive back Shyheim Carter. He also threw two touchdowns during the red zone portion of practice while working with the first-team offense. Barnett had long completions to ArDarius Stewart and Foster in addition to a touchdown to Stewart while working with the first-team offense.

quote:

Barnett threw an interception during a two-minute drill period, but it was under similar circumstances as Hurts'. Time was running out and no one was open.

Where the hell are all the folks that were at the scrimmage? Usually by now we have multiple versions of what happened today. I am disappoint.

I like people who are dicks about this :

Short version,

Bateman, made some nice plays, had two really bad picks, one was a pick six. Did ok on goal line, nothing great but did not look comfortable in the pocket and obviously was throwing them into heavy traffic for gifts

Barnett, also made some good plays had a nice td pass. Didn't use his legs at all and he isn't really all that fast which may surprise some of you. His speed in high school doesn't translate to this, had a bad pick he basically pulled a Chad Kelly but no helmet bounce.

Hurts was by far the best looking qb, he is electric, kid has wheels, is calm and collected in the pocket. He makes nice reads, he goes read 1 check to 2 and then runs so fluid. Shocked the absolute hell out of me. He threw a huge bomb to foster 50+, ran a read option 45 yards, and another td in the air.

1st D looked good, 2nd and 3rd team was mix matched so it was mostly 2nd guys in when people mentioned 3rd team and some 1st team. Secondary was totally mixed up a lot tons of personnel on and off. AA got the first look at corner.

Rueben Foster looked much quicker and Evans left the field he looked a little dizzy is the best way to say that

Shank took first team reps after Bozeman warmed up there and they switched out for 1st team reps . Mayden, shef and carter took a lot of reps as well

Harris and emmons looked good but Jacobs looked excellent kid is really quick. Bo was good for a limited time.

So bottom line I think the QB is still batemans to lose but hurts def passed BB. My opinion and that of everyone there is hurts is absolutely the real deal. This is def a qb competition it has to be. Hurts took the 1's and drove the field with absolute ease it was like 15 pass then 10 yard run back and forth. Looked great.

Like I mentioned yesterday Cecil Hurt believes Hurts may be the guy for us and i know fans get excited about incoming freshman but I am not sure the last time under Saban I have heard a freshman QB get so much attention like this from sources outside of our fan base.

It shouldn't. He has never looked like a DT to me.

Gimme Hurts.

If you ever heard of him Stephen Smith is gaga for Hurts. Said he will be the starter.

Thanks Boz!!! Pretty wild what's happening with Hurts at this point. Wonder if he can continue or will he hit some type of wall here soon...

Any mentions of the receivers? Specifically Derek Kief? Guy has made tremendous strides since Spring.

Really important IMO for JK to get his groove back. Here's an article on him saying he's looking to get back in his '14 form.

I'm team Barnett but I would settle with Hurts if he truly is the real deal. Bateman, however, is not and won't ever be.
