Young looked much better improvising than in the pocket, even when the pocket was fairly clean. We'll want to shift his launch point to get the most out of him.

Who does he compare to?

There was some serious holding and mugging of the receivers going on in that scrimmage. I think Saban doesnt want penalties called because he wants to get the game over as quickly as possible. The receivers will look better when the game is officiated.

I think this has a purpose too though. Teach the kids to play through the whistle. You won’t always get the call. So, go make the catch in spite of the penalty.

Russell Wilson. I think this will be our worst QB play since ‘17 Jalen. Bryce isn’t quite as ready as I thought he’d be or as he was originally hyped to be.

That’s not to say he won’t be very good this year.

Agree and disagree.

Agree that Bryce reminds me most of Russell Wilson, though not as thick, probably a bit quicker.

Disagree that Bryce is not quite ready. IMO, he will be the primary reason for the great offense Alabama will have this year. I was afraid the WRs would be the hindrance, and they still might be; but Saturday was encouraging in that regard, and that is without seeing Leary, Brooks and Earle. Hall and Holden looked good. But however the WRs turn out, the TEs will be good, as well as the RBs catching out of the backfield. And most importantly, Young will be a great facilitator of the offense. Even at his size, he can do it all at QB: leader, smart, instinctive, great arm, quick release, sees the field well, very accurate, elusive, play-maker without being reckless, etc.

I think he's certainly ready to start and play well. This isn't a "There's a QB competition" take. Young is the clear #1 although I think people are riding the Crimson QBs a bit much given how poor the second team o-line played.

I don't think Young's at the level he was initially labeled. Keep in mind Bryce is tied for our highest rated recruit in the history of 247 rankings.

He had 19 incompletions Saturday and at times looked uncomfortable in the pocket. This is nitpicking stuff, but when we're comparing him to the QB play of the last three seasons, that's what we have to focus on.

I'd also say I doubt we'll keep him in the pocket that much in real games.
