Ditto. I thought he was the best hire possible at the time and I still think that. Granted...lose today and people are googling his buyout amount, but that's the nature of the beast lol.
I'd hate to be looking for a new coach right now...none out there are worth paying a huge buyout unless your program is just tanking and you're desperate. I mean, who hires James Franklin? Nothing excites a fan base like hiring the guy just fired for never winning the big games.
One thing I'd point out is James Franklin is evidence that it is better to consistently beat the teams you should and lose to almost every peer opponent in the regular season. He lasted a decade doing that at a school that expects to compete for championships. Fact of the matter is - and we experienced this last year - it hurts more to lose to teams you should beat than beating great teams in the regular season. Sure, beating quality opponents should count for a lot but it just does not seem to matter all that much both in terms of playoff selection and in terms of fan patience.

Some on this board are not impressed. Primarily because he didn’t hire someone who understands “SEC culture” such as a Jimbo Fisher. L-O-L!

Saban said himself it was getting harder to get good coordinators. Every time we got a good one they got a head job.....er head coaching job.
Some should have stayd on Sabans staff.
and one he should have cut loose. How many D coordinators never made a team punt? Even at Ole Miss i bet it hasnt happened too often.

Well, we have a whole lot of dumbasses on this website, on every other bama website, and in every town in Alabama. Our fanbase is, like it or not, well known for being irrational.
Dont believe me? Tune in to Finebaum for about 30 seconds.
