Alabama lost this game due to turnovers on offense and an incredibly poor scout on the defensive game plan. We needed to dare Lee and Fland to take 3pt shots and make it hard to get entry passes into the post. Every team that has beaten Florida has done it by forcing their guards to win the game. Auburn did it a few weeks ago with roughly that exact game plan.
Our problem over the last 3 seasons has been utterly poor defense. Some of it is development of players, some of it is body types and skill set selection in roster build, but a lot of it is game plan. We have too many games where we have no answers because we seemingly didn't even know there was a test that night.

Looking unprepared going into the game defensively is one thing but the inability to make adjustments in real time after seeing the same things destroy you is unexplainable.

I don't think our defensive assistants ever had that dream where they forgot an exam was today and they showed up to it naked
and it shows
and it shows

After every made basket we had, the coaching staff was jumping off the bench for the team to press. After a while, you’d think they would realize that shot wasn’t working

ystematic style offense like Arizona, Duke, Florida.
In other words, they beat the shite out of mediocre to bottom dweller teams but lose at a high clip to elite teams that are technically sound.

This is the basketball equivalent of “Nick Saban’s defenses struggle against qbs like Tebow, Newton, Manziel, and Watson”

Also, people forget all the great teams we've beaten in the past with Oats and the fact that we have beaten some pretty good teams this year too. I feel like the Bediako addition has been a bigger integration issue than I expected. We're just not there on defense yet. He ought to be exactly what we need to not get embarrassed by teams attacking us at the rim with their bigs but it hasn't materialized yet.
Also, we have no clue with Bediako makes it through the season. I suspect he will because Pavia's team was able to parlay an injunction that spanned the season while it worked through the court system.
If the injunction is made permanent through the lifecycle of this case on Friday, I think Bediako is in for the long haul. I was on jury duty in Tuscaloosa recently and the court admins were talking about how they don't have enough judges for their case load. This won't have a genuine day in court for arguments until well after the season.
Anyway I digress. I'm beginning to think we have a defensive coaching deficiency because I thought the adaptation to having two great shot blockers at the 5 spot was going to be drop in and defensive efficiency sky rockets. Perhaps that was a bit of a lofty expectation. However, we've got a February to figure this out. I want to say Florida got embarrassed around this time last year and ended up locking in on their identity shortly afterwards. Maybe we will have the same with similar results.

He didn't lose to them every time and get blown out every time. Let's go down the list:
Purdue -arse kicked every time
Florida - arse kicked every time
Duke - arse kicked
Arizona - arse kicked
UConn - arse kicked
Tennessee - arse kicked almost every time
Even mediocre teams with physical front court play gives this team problems. See Texas at home a few weeks ago.
This team can't defend and the front court players are not very talented.

So am I to believe that St John’s is a poorly coached team with a poor front-court? How about #5 Illinois
If we are gonna go back to previous years, how about being unbeaten against Houston as the coach at Alabama? How about winning at #1 Auburn last year and going 4-2 overall against the Broome and Caldwell combo? No physical front courts there, no siree. On a lesser scale, how about completely dominating Mississippi State under Jans?
I can go on if you’d like. 4-2 record against Muss’ Arkansas teams and a winning record over Buzz’s Texas A&M teams
So no we truly only “struggle” against Top 10 caliber teams. To which I respond “who fricking doesn’t?”

Allen is also a borderline lotto pick right now. I think we need to stop starting guards at the 3 and start him instead.
He had a rough day v. Florida but we aren’t going to get him where we need to be without paying the price.
I’m not sold on starting both Bediako and Sherrell too. I think we need Allen and Bowen/Jemison playing beside Bediako or Sherrell.

Why do you think Bama can't beat Florida or Tennessee?
So they beat some good teams in the preseason? It happens. They beat Gonzaga in preseason play a few years ago in Seattle.
They are just soft, can't defend, and front court guys are arse. It is what it is.

2 Sweet 16s
1 Elite 8
1 Final 4
2 SEC regular season championships
2 SEC tournament championships
This is all in the last 6 years and that includes a year where post-season was cancelled.
At a “football” school where fans don’t show up for games until late January.
I think it’s okay to bitch about the limitations of a team/player, but to say the system isn’t working is ignorant based on results.

We’ve owned UNC (4-1) and Houston (3-0) under Nate Oats
Houston has arguably had the best program in the country over the last 5-6 years.
North Carolina was a #1 seed when we beat them and ranked #1 in the country another time.

I think our problem is in conference opponents commit a lot of scout time on us and we don’t really adjust as well to what they do nor give varied looks based on scout. We run our offense and defense matchup be damned.

A good portion of this fanbase does not deserve a successful basketball program, thank you for reinforcing my beliefs.
