Why does our bracket say Birmingham and Houston in the west say the same?

The first and second round host sites are no longer attached to a certain region.
In other words, the Birmingham games are no longer required to be tied to the Southeast region.
In fact, they could be from 2 other regions, say 4 teams assigned to the West, and 4 teams from the East region.

Do they let you play fewer games as a 1 seed?

Look at the odds of advancing by tournament seed and you tell me?

Odds to reach sweet 16:
1 seed: 85.4%
2 seed: 63.2%
3 seed: 52.1%
4 seed: 46.5%

If lock up a #1 seed you are almost guaranteed to make the sweet 16.

In fact your odds of reaching the final four (41%) as a 1 seed are almost the same as the odds of a 4 seed reaching the sweet 16.

Just going from a 1 to a 2 seed drops your odds of reaching the final four in half (41% vs 20.8%) and if you drop down to a 3 seed it’s even worse (41% vs 11.8%).

So if you can get the 1 seed you take it every time.
