I assume he's basing that on Georgia winning two of the last three titles and returning much of the roster from what looked like the best team in the country this bowl season.
Uga has three games they can easily lose on their schedule, and all 3 are on the road.

True but Bama also has a very difficult schedule.

I'm not saying they do, but anyone thinking uga is a automatic playoff team isn't being honest.

Don’t know if we get coach poached after how bad we looked at times this season. Is it possible Saban pulls the trigger on a new OC?
Well Hutzler is already gone.So that’s one.

10-2 in the SEC will get you in a 12 team playoff everytime. Just making the CFP won't be a big achievement anymore. The playoff itself now will be more difficult too.

quote:I agree with just about everything you said, but I would also point out that late in 2017 (when Jalen had reverted to running as a first resort and our leading pass-catcher was Damien Harris) we probably didn't feel too hot about the receivers and backs, either. Which is more to say that the offensive woes we are seeing are only that much more glaring when QB play is compromised in some way.
I think Milroe deserves some blame but Alabama's offensive problems were beyond QB.
OL play has been bad for three seasons now. It directly cost Alabama two playoff games (one was the title game). Wolford just completed his 2nd season and we're no better off now than at the end of 2021. There needs to be a reckoning here. Evals have been missed in recruiting (some of that is Marrone). We have lost several players to the portal pretty early in their eligibility. This makes me think he's not connecting with these players well and doesn't have their confidence.
WR group has a problem with early separation. We were spoiled by the run in 2017-2019 at WR but there isn't even one guy like Metchie, Smitty, or Juedy on this roster who can get open early. This means our offense has to rely on longer developing routes that allow the WRs to separate with pure speed advantages late.
Tailbacks are simply not playmakers and they don't really differ in styles at all. This group did not make a big impact at all this year nor last year. Gibbs was dynamic but was often unable to make an influence in games. The 2023 team, especially, was the kind of squad that needed a tailback or two who could reliably eat up carries but that back did not exist.
Alabama has missed on or lost the confidence of a lot of skill talent over the last few years. Look how many guys are playing on other teams after transferring. Not that I think guys like Holden, Baker, or Leary were our missing pieces. We have a deficiency in skill players. You could not expect to have that 2017-2021 run forever but this unit is more like 2011 without TRich and Lacy.

It’s tough but manageable. Georgia and Missouri we get at home. Play Wisconsin out of conf instead of a playoff team like Texas. Don’t have to play Ole Miss or A&M. Auburn at home. Vandy is one of our road SEC games. That’s huge.
LSU, Tennessee and Oklahoma on the road are the scary matchups. Milroe in those environments scare the crap out of me.
Nuss isn’t mobile and their defense isn’t going to be easy to fix. Tbh LSU doesn’t scare me as much as Tennessee and OU but still a tough road trip. The Vols have a 6’6 potential phenom at QB. He’s going to be difficult in Neyland.
Those 3 games are going to be important.
It could be worse. We could have Georgia or Florida’s schedule. UGA is in a brand new world. They are going from cupcake county to an absolute gauntlet. They deserve it.

Disagree about RBs. It’s plain as day that Jam Miller and Justice Haynes are our best RBs. However, as I’ve said, Saint Nick is loyal to a fault to upper class men starters even if a younger player is clearly better.
If you can't pick up the blitz, you're a liability as a RB. Don't recall how good Jam is at that, but Justice was abused early in the season when he tried to pass block, totally overwhelmed. That's not unusual for a freshman RB. Hopefully, time in the SC program, and more practice reps will work wonders for him.

JAM, Haynes, and Williams all got abused early in the season. Williams got a little better then JAM improved a little also. With the early season issues at centr/right guard and LT. Jase was needed just to try to keep Milroe alive.
The right elbow injury slowed Haynes development in the middle to late part of the season. The break between SECCG and Rose alowed him to improve his pass pro.
Pure running and pass catching in space, Haynes is the best with JAM as a close second. I guess if Haynes and JAM had played more early, then Ty Simpson would have had more paying time to see if he could have improved.

Well, we just lost the number 2 recruiter in college football to A&M. Not sure if Saban asked him to leave because why else would you take a lateral move? I don't think he has done much developing wide receivers as evidenced by the last few years but the dude can recruit.
