They were comparing Mac last year to Tua’s first year as a starter - as a sophomore.

It's just not a fair comparison either way. Tua likely is/was the most accurate passer in college football history. His ball placement is already legendary. He may not amount to anything in the NFL but it is still true relative to what he accomplished in college.

I just can't with good conscience compare Mac with Tua. If Mac were replacing Jalen, folks would be a lot more excited about Mac this year. Now, thanks to Tua, folks are assuming our latest five star signee is going to come in and win the job when not even Tua did that. It's freaking crazy.

It's not just the Tua effect. There's also what just occurred with Clemson and Trevor Lawrence. Was Kelly Bryant as talented as Mac Jones?

These RPO offensives aren't that hard to master, especially if high school QBs are well accustomed to running them. A few game days under their belt and they seem to find their rhythm. Bentley of SC just transferred to Utah. Ryan Hilinski wouldn't turn the job loose his freshman campaign. Bentley wasn't chopped liver.

And a true freshman shall lead them.

I get that Young may come in and go beast mode right off the bat like Tua did. The truth is that not even Tua won the job as a freshman even though our starter was barely good for 100 yards per game through the air even with elite receivers legit two deep. Mac has shown that he can step up and play big. To be honest, I hope I am wrong. I will be keenly interested in watching the quarterback battle play out. I haven't ruled out Taulia yet either like most have. The job is up for grabs and I hope that we go with the underclassman if he looks to be the best guy for the job. He will have to win the team and prove to be the best on the field.

I hate when people use stats to make arguments.
We all know how good Mac Jones is. We saw the games. We also all know how good Tua was at his best.

The stats say Mac Jones was just as good as Tua - this is why you should never look at stats

I would resoundingly say no.

I get what you are saying bro but stats are the best metric we have to get an idea about these things. Of course they don't tell the whole story and context is important but Mac's stats aren't misleading. This write up on Mac breaks down where downfield he threw the ball etc and provided plenty of context. I think your biggest issue with Mac is that he wasn't a surefire 5 star coming out of high school and that he isn't a dual threat quarterback. Mac is what his stats say he is. A pretty solid quarterback that needs to work on intermediate patterns and turnovers. We can win a title with him. We have done it with worse.
