Following its dominating 10-0 shutout at No. 13 LSU, the entire Alabama defense was nationally recognized.

The Crimson Tide defense was named the Walter Camp National Defensive Player of the Week after holding the Tigers to 125 yards of total offense, star running back Leonard Fournette to 35 yards and recording five sacks.

Alabama held LSU to six first downs Saturday night in Baton Rouge, including just one in the second half of play. The shutout marked Alabama’s first SEC road shutout since a 52-0 win at Arkansas on Sept. 15, 2012.

Reuben Foster led the defense with 11 tackles. Marlon Humphrey (8) and Shaun Dion Hamilton (7) were not far behind him. Minkah Fitzpatrick, in his first game at safety, intercepted a Danny Etling pass in the fourth quarter, while Ronnie Harrison blocked a key field goal early on in the game. Jonathan Allen (1), Ryan Anderson (1), Dalvin Tomlinson (1), Rashaan Evans (1), Tim Williams (0.5) and Foster (0.5) each recorded at least half a sack inside Tiger Stadium.

This is the second time since 2004 that a “team” has earned Walter Camp National Player of the Week honors. On Sept. 25, 2005, the Virginia Tech Hokies’ defensive unit earned National Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Not sure how the numbers stack up comparable to past defenses, but this defense looks about as good as any I've ever seen.

Should be interesting to see it next season. The front 7 loses a lot for the first time in a while. The secondary should be stout though. Fitzmagic, Harrison, Hootie, Brown, and Averett all back. If Hump decided to come back for some reason, they'd be set. But the losses up front can not be understated. Sure, a few guys are back, Payne, SDH, Evan, Hand, but others seem to just now be making an impact. Jennings and Miller for example.
