Eli was my hero growing up. He was my window into Alabama football because my dad only ever listened to the games. I would record him and Snake off the radio and listen again later, then to call my own football games in the yard. He made everything feel like the huge events they were, and that’s what I always liked. Now, his voice is still pretty great, but he can’t seem to get the mix of enthusiasm and information right anymore.
I will slightly agree with you on Chris. While I appreciate his basketball calls, he doesn’t really have the voice or style for the big football games. The greats put you there in the stadium with their personality and charisma. Chris doesn’t really have either of those, even though I do like the guy.

A LOT of people grew up listening to Eli and in the past, he was great. Just like everyone else, as we age, our strengths begin to fail us and then become so glaring. I think the time has come for Eli to pass the torch on to Chris Stewart and that very well may be the plan, but Eli’s health sort of delayed a proper sendoff. I’ll always recall my freshman year as a walk on and we had just clinched the SEC and after the game, my dad and I were walking out of the stadium and my dad reached down and grabbed up a few sugar cubes that had been thrown into the field in celebration. We ran into Eli and my Dad handed him one of those cubes, Eli gave him a hearty “Roll Tide and How sweet it is!!!

All I hear with Eli is Mickey Mouse. Forget ever knowing how much time is left in whatever quarter. He’s a carpetbagger. It’s Chris’ turn.

Crazy observation
Eli Gold came from NY to go to Alabama for sports radio broadcasts

And I'm the only mother fricker who doesn't like Chris Stewart and thinks he sounds like an AM radio broadcaster for Tallapoosa County high schools. So I'm absolutely going to cringe when he's inevitably named as Eli's replacement.
I’m glad someone else said this too. Listen, I like Chris Stewart. Excellent man and you can tell he loves Alabama. But, guys that have these jobs have very unique and special sounding voices. This guys sounds like everybody’s boring uncle.
I don’t think he’s the guy to replace a legend like Eli. I’m going to cherish every game Eli does until he retires.
