No, it didnt really matter where Tua was looking. He was way too far in the center of the field to be playing cover 2.
The safety was lined up on the hash marks.
There were trips right. In that situation, most cover 2 schemes would have him lined up a bit INSIDE the hash, even further toward the middle of the field than he was.

Great throw, not lofted up, zipped out there like 45+ yards, bad positioning by the safety but doesn't reduce the quality of the throw at all.
This. The safety being out of position gave him room for error, but as it turned out the throw was perfect and that room was not needed.

If the safety was in the right position, the WR's move to the inside should have taken him out of the play.

It’s not so much that he looked off the safety. The next level attribute was how quickly he made the throw after the look off. There was absolutely no hesitation, no delay to verify Smith was open. He started the throwing motion as he brought his head around. Like GMAC said, he just had a sense of where Smith was and executed accordingly without hesitation with the game was on the line. That’s a rare thing.

Did you guys hear Joey Galloway say that he had played with 26 Pro QB's and none of them would have made that throw. He said it was the ultimate professional execution of the play made by a freshman!
Jessie Parker said basically the same thing.
It was a play never to be forgotten.

Yeah, precisely. Bad to the bone throw

I'm pretty sure that Tua probably had a pretty good view of what was going on in his peripheral vision.

And I think the big thing getting lost is he perfectly diagnosed the coverage. It wasn't the same on each side, which is why the safety was in the wrong, and he knew the correct receiver upon release.

Only he can answer that, but because he knew the coverage he already knew what was happening over there
