He did what was best for himself, as all players and coaches are going to do. If he had been riding the pine from the start and could have transferred, he would have.

Lol that was literally so many of you guys when Jalen Hurts was here.
I remember how he was bashed for his Dad's words even after he distanced himself from them.
One of the most unsupported guys who people had a complete 180 after he came in and won that SEC CG.... yet wanted him gone before the season started
You guys hate it? I don't care. It's what happened.
Be better.

I’m sure there was some of that to a degree, but I really clearly remember Jalen getting a lot of praise midseason for sticking around. This was about the time that the idea of a guy taking his redshirt and transferring mid year became a thing. Every game where JH got some mop up minutes, which was quite often as we were absolutely killing teams, he got a huge cheer. Maybe you remember the loud voices of a few so strongly because the position they took was so baffling. If there are specific posters that you recall taking crazy positions, call that out at your discretion. However, acting like the whole fanbase was anti-Jalen Hurts is a little revisionist. Being happy for Hurts is portably what most Bama fans feel at the moment.
Tua was clearly the better QB at the time. Recognizing that wasn’t a slight on Hurts. I honestly don’t recall the kerfluffle with his dad’s comments you are referring to, but generally speaking it’s probably not in anyone’s best interest to have parents going public with concerns.

No one wanted him gone.
People wanted Tua to start over him.
There is a huge difference between the two.
ETA: And that isn't some controversial thing.
Look at his stats for the 2017 season:

He passed for fewer than 200 yards in 12 of the 14 games that year. Tua came in at halftime of the national championship game and led us to a title. Who in their right mind would want Jalen to start over him in 2018?
Having said that, Jalen stuck it out like a man and worked hard. That hard work paid off significantly when we needed him to save our arse in the SEC title game.

Jalen is Jalen and they'll never be another like him! Imagine if he tucked tail and left mid-season...do we beat Georgia?

Tell all that to Jeudy, Smith, and the other receivers.

Fans were on Jalen's arse, rightfully so. He made the team one dimensional but he was an underclassman with multiple OCs.
Fans had the right to be upset with a one dimensional QB.
Jalen's three years at Alabama were as transformative/important as the single year at Oklahoma. The ups and downs has made him who he is. He will ALWAYS be a winner due to his mental approach.
