Holy shite. We getting everyone.

quote:that's not the only difference. The only thing the NCAA controls is eligibility. College athletics are amateur athletics, and there are constraints built into it that are not present in pro sports. For instance, you have to be an enrolled student or you are not eligible. You can only play X number of years, etc etc. making a non compliant nil deal does nothing but affect your eligibility, you can still make the deal, but you choose to impact your eligibility by breaking the rules of the amateur athletics League you are voluntarily participating in. You still have you name, image, and likeness and can sell that for whatever it's worth. If your name, image, and likeness is only worth anything to a booster, and only worth anything to that booster if you attend their school not another school, is a pretty good litmus test of if the nil deal is legit or just pay for play
The difference between the NCAA and the professional leagues is collective bargaining agreements.
This is why I wish it hadn't gone down this route in the first place, they should have just dissolved the NCAA as the regulating body and replaced it with a not for profit entity. Profit sharing gets to close to employee/employer, which introduces the likelihood of some sort of college players union and collective bargaining, which is going to be a massive shite show all over again

Ideally NIL should become what it is for the pros. End preconditioning NIL agreements with participation at a particular school. Make it into where you see Keelon Russell twice a commercial break doing AFLAC commercials with Primetime and GOAT.

quote:agreed, legit NIL deals should be tied to your actually being famous. High school kids who have never played a down of nationally televised football and who nobody who doesn't follow recruiting has ever heard of do not have nil worth millions of dollars, that should be pretty apparent even to a group of people as dumb as the federal judiciary. That's why the clearinghouse thing, while potentially messy, is at least a promising indication that they recognize that just having the school with the richest boosters able to buy recruits with fake nil deals fundamentally impacts the fairness of competition of the sport

We were told not to get hope up on Griffin and that we were getting three stars players.

Also, ultimately the uneasiness of this truce is because the schools are damned and determined to not classify the athletes as employees thus making it trivial for congress to make a collective bargaining anti-trust carve out for the NCAA/universities. Academia is too deeply engrained in the concept of exploitation of cheap, young adult labor by dangling credential acquisition in front of them. It is not easy for them to accept that athletes in revenue sports are an advertising instrument for undergraduate admissions. They're simply too committed to the idea that their credentials are fair value for labor. Even as they accept that direct compensation is the only way forward, they are battling against just calling it an employee-employer relationship. It leads to questions that could undermine how the entire graduate and post-graduate labor racket works for their colleges.

Is Edwards the safety leaning toward Alabama or Georgia honestly?

Thought we were after Ponatoski as our 2nd QB in this class?

I’m guessing we want two because we assume that two guys are gone one way or another this winter?

Might as well take two swings at it if you can. Get two guys in and see who clicks best. Especially if we’re increasing scholarships.

Well that's a good point. I keep on forgetting the calculus is going to be different when 105 happens in the SEC. Probably will be taking two QBs every class now because attrition is so stark and debilitating at that position.

Do we have a shot at Malakai Lee? Seems like Michigan has led for him for a while
Posted on 6/27/25 at 4:49 pm to RollTideuntilidie
Seems that ship has sailed. More likely Zierer or Cooley at OT. And portal this winter.

Zay Hall commits to BAMA.
