TWO FIVE-STAR SAFETIES POSSIBLE
There are currently no five-star safeties in the 2023 class but there is a decent chance that’s going to change.
Caleb Downs and Peyton Bowen are just too good to ignore. Downs, from Hoschton (Ga.) Mill Creek, is committed to Alabama and has just been phenomenal this season making plays, diagnosing things from the secondary and coming up for tackles and looking like the next big thing in the Crimson Tide’s defense.
Bowen has been phenomenal as well. The Denton (Texas) Guyer standout who is committed to Notre Dame but is being pursued by Texas A&M and Oklahoma is a phenomenal player in the back end, picks passes off and is just so smart.
There could be others in the discussion but to my eye, Downs and Bowen have separated themselves from the pack.

WATCH FOR FLIPS
It’s inevitable that there are going to be plenty of committed prospects changing their minds in the coming months especially closer to the Early Signing Period which will include coaching changes across the country.
There are plenty of defensive backs who will be watched closely including Texas commit Malik Muhammad (who especially has Alabama and Texas A&M after him), Florida pledge Sharif Denson (Alabama is trying to flip), LSU commit Daylen Austin, who has been taking numerous visits to Pac-12 programs, Florida commit Jakeem Jackson (who visits Kentucky this weekend), Texas pledge Derek Williams, who has LSU and Alabama pursuing hard, and of course Bowen, which was mentioned above.

Five thoughts on the linebackers in 2023 class
quote:
ALL EYES ON PERKINS
Suntarine Perkins has been committed to Ole Miss since late November 2021. He’s the top-rated prospect in the state of Mississippi. The Raleigh, Miss., standout is a Rivals100 player. On paper, it looks great for the Rebels.
But Perkins continues to be pursued by Alabama, and he was back in Tuscaloosa this past weekend for the Crimson Tide’s win over Texas A&M. The four-star linebacker said he had a great night of SEC football there and there have been rumors of a flip to Alabama for some time, although it hasn’t happened yet.
Perkins is expected back in Oxford this weekend. It would be huge if the Rebels could keep him in this class, but Alabama is rarely denied.

Just saw where a big OT has decommitted from Clemson, Zechariah Owens, 4 Star, 6'7" 350 lbs out of McDonough, Ga. Any interest on our part? He wants to be closer to home, Florida State has been mentioned in connection with him.

He must not be too smart then, Clemson, SC is over an hour closer than Tallahassee.

That's what the article quoted him as saying, he mentioned wanting his mother to be able to attend games without having to stay overnight in motels? Don't know if they have relatives near Tallahassee, or maybe his decision was based on other financial matters (as others here have stated.

Weekend recruiting buzz: Ten biggest visits on tap
quote:
DAEVIN HOBBS to Tennessee
Tennessee could have the edge right now for the Concord (N.C.) Robinson four-star defensive end and the electric environment in Knoxville this weekend should only help the Vols even more.
Alabama is also one of his favorites, along with Georgia, so if the Crimson Tide put up a great performance this weekend the visit could backfire a little, but Neyland Stadium should be rocking and Hobbs should see one of the best atmospheres in college football come alive.

MALIK MUHAMMAD to Texas
There is talk about Alabama coming in and stealing the high four-star cornerback. There’s some chatter about others as well. So, it’s great news for the Longhorns that the Dallas South Oak Cliff standout is returning to Austin, along with some other important commits and recruits, including five-star quarterback Arch Manning.
A weekend like this can only help reinforce Muhammad's pledge and remind him why the Longhorns won in the first place.

SUNTARINE PERKINS to Ole Miss
The No. 1 player in the Mississippi state rankings, Perkins has been committed to Ole Miss since last November, but Alabama has constantly tried to flip him. The Raleigh, Miss., four-star linebacker was back in Tuscaloosa last weekend, loved his time there for the Crimson Tide’s win over Texas A&M and said it was the best SEC experience he’s had yet.
With all that being said, one week later Perkins returning to Oxford is definitely big, and keeping him locked up is huge for the Rebels.

JAMES SMITH - Florida
Maybe Alabama is too far ahead here, with Georgia and Auburn there as well, but Florida is getting a big visit from Smith this weekend, and his friend and teammate Jaquavious Russaw is joining him in Gainesville.
The Montgomery (Ala.) Carver standouts are serious about playing together in college, and while it looks like the Crimson Tide lead, Florida has intrigued both for a long time. It should be a phenomenal environment in The Swamp and it could sway Smith to think twice about the Gators.

With as bad as Iowa has been and rumors of changes that need to be made I wonder if we can sneak back in w K Proctor. That would be huge.

One interesting thing I noticed in Bones mock class, he picked us to get James Smith and a flip in the DL. I also read where Kelby Collins had a fantastic visit and was torn after the game, and the only thing being said about Woods is that he keeps things quiet. Bone has been pretty spot on this year and I'm wondering if he knows something about one of these two he's not telling.
