Weekend recruiting buzz: Ten biggest visits on tap

quote:

KELBY COLLINS TO ALABAMA

The four-star defensive end from Gardendale, Ala., surprised a lot of people in mid-August when he picked Florida over Alabama. Collins is an in-state kid whose family reportedly likes Alabama a lot, and defensive line is a position of need in Tuscaloosa.

But the Gators won out for his services as the four-star likes coach Billy Napier, position coach Sean Spencer and all the love he received from that new coaching staff. But he’s back at Alabama this weekend, so it’s definitely a trip worth watching over the next few days.

KEON KEELEY TO ALABAMA

Ohio State has made up serious ground in Keeley’s recruitment as the five-star defensive end visited the Buckeyes for their big win over Notre Dame and then returned for a second trip when Wisconsin came to Columbus. That shows a level of seriousness and not just some cursory look at the program.

But when the Tampa (Fla.) Berkeley Prep standout decommitted from Notre Dame it was believed Alabama was the reason and that he would end up there. Well, Keeley takes his official visit this weekend, and the Crimson Tide should still like their position in his recruitment.

SUNTARINE PERKINS TO ALABAMA

There have been rumors dating back to the spring that Perkins was going to flip to Alabama, that his family were Crimson Tide fans and that it was inevitable that the No. 1 player in the state of Mississippi would flip from Ole Miss. But it has not happened yet and a lot of the flip talk has died down in recent months, especially with the Rebels also playing so well.

However, Perkins will be back in Tuscaloosa this weekend for the big Texas A&M matchup, and it’s something to closely monitor since the environment should be outstanding.

DUCE ROBINSON TO ALABAMA

USC and Georgia seem to have a significant edge right now for the No. 1 tight end in the nation, but visits to Alabama and Texas are also supposed to happen before the Phoenix Pinnacle standout makes his decision. Robinson is picking an excellent weekend to be in Tuscaloosa and one wonders whether he’ll be pitched as the next OJ Howard for the Crimson Tide.

That could be a compelling case. Robinson loved his trip to Georgia and how it uses the tight ends, and he’s really comfortable with everything USC has to offer, too. It will be a big weekend for him to figure out where Alabama stands.

DAMON WILSON TO GEORGIA

There are others involved, but this could end up being a Georgia vs. Alabama battle for one of the top defensive ends in the nation, and he’ll be in Athens this weekend. This one is too close to call, so a great weekend in Athens - and a dominant performance against an average Auburn offense - could be a major selling point for the Venice, Fla., standout.

Ohio State and others are in the mix, but this should come down to the Bulldogs or the Crimson Tide.

We’re his gloves supposed to have the A on them?

OT but this reminded me of Mark Ingram in the Natty putting up the As on his gloves to the camera after scoring against Texas. Maybe it was done before that but that was the first time I can remember seeing it and now, over a decade later the logo gloves are engrained in college football and recruiting. Bama the originator, just like the turnover belt and of course winning lol.

B/R Recruiting: Ranking the Top 10 WR Prospects in the 2023 Class

quote:

10. Jalen Hale, Alabama Crimson Tide

Alabama may have refound a little bit of its mojo in the passing game with star quarterback Bryce Young leading the way, but the Crimson Tide haven't been anywhere near as dynamic as they've been in the recent past at wide receiver.

A restocking of the pantry is in store for Nick Saban.

There already is a wealth of talent already on campus at the Capstone, but one great-looking receiver prospect committed to play for UA is 6'1", 185-pound Jalen Hale.

The Longview, Texas, resident is a bouncy, long-armed athlete who possesses top-end speed and is the complete package at the position. It's hard to believe he got out of the Lone Star State with Texas and Texas A&M in hot pursuit, but Hale could have gone anywhere in the nation and chose 'Bama.

The way the program has churned out receivers (and players in general) to the NFL has to be appealing to Hale, a three-sport star with a high ceiling who can develop into a smooth option who can play either inside or in the slot.

It wouldn't be surprising to see Hale rise in the rankings before this cycle is over.

There is no signing limit this year and I have a feeling there will be a mass exodus of the misevaluations from the 2021 class.

That seems like a classic troll attempt honestly. He's had the option to flip for a couple of months and had only doubled down on Ole Miss, including recruiting for them.

Yeah, I am kind annoyed the paysites keep saying to pay attention to him. I get it that Bama would take him and he keeps showing interest so it is a story but from the outside it looks pretty clear that he just likes the attention he gets when he flirts with Bama and he will end up signing with Ole Miss in the end. Would be happy to be wrong though.

We got a commitment from a kid named Ryan Williams, I believe from Saraland

He’s a sophomore. This really doesn’t count.
