Rivals Rankings Week: Five-Star Countdown for 2024

Julian Sayin is ranked #5 overall.

quote:

Gorney's Take: The Alabama commit is not going to blow you away with physical gifts or 40 times but he is a pure tactician, a surgeon with the football in his hands. He can dissect defenses, he rarely makes a poor throw or decision, and he gets the ball down the field and in the end zone.

Don’t be fooled, either, because the Carlsbad, Calif., quarterback is also a big-time competitor with a winning drive who’s putting in his 10,000 hours to be an expert at what he does.

Updated 2024 Rivals250

Commits/in-state prospects:

5. QB Julian Sayin
47. LB Demarcus Riddick (Clanton - Georgia commit)
73. CB Jaylen Mbakwe
85. WR Perry Thompson
101. DE Kavion Henderson (Leeds - Arkansas commit)
113. CB Travaris Banks (Tuscaloosa)
136. RB Ronnie Royal (Gulf Shores)
148. RB J'Marion Burnette (Andalusia)
174. DE Jordan Ross (Birmingham)
214. LB Jospeh Phillips (Tuskegee)
216. RB Kevin Riley (Northport)
243. WR Damian Thompson (Florence)

Looks like a down year in-state, but these rankings could also reflect the fallout from BamaInsider moving from Rivals to On3. I doubt they found someone to advocate for players in the state of Alabama who held as much influence as Andrew Bone.

Rivals Rankings Week: Ten biggest risers in the Rivals250

quote:

Jaylen Mbakwe

Moved up: 103 spots

Measuring in near 6-foot, Mbakwe has the athletic profile of an elite defensive back. He has outstanding speed in the open field and has impressive footwork for a cornerback at this stage in his development. Mbakwe has plenty of experience against top-flight receivers and does a great job in man coverage.

His athleticism and ability to anticipate the play should help him cut down the learning curve at a college level.

An early commitment to Alabama, Mbakwe has a sky high ceiling and it will be exciting to see how he develops the rest of this cycle.

Travaris Banks

Moved up: 102 spots

The last of four prospects making a jump of more than 100 spots, Banks has a unique skill set for a defensive back because of the length and speed he brings to the field. He has a knack for getting his hands on the ball, which was on full display at the National Underclassmen Combine earlier this year.

He also brings a level of physicality to the position, which disrupts the timing receivers have with the quarterback. Banks has time to fill out his frame and get stronger, but he already plays with an aggressive style so that makes this less of an issue.

Alabama is a team to watch for the in-state prospect but Auburn is a major contender along with Florida, Oklahoma and Texas A&M.

Don't know if this has been posted. Rivals and ESPN won't have as much say as On3 and 247sports.

New No. 1 overall visiting Alabama this weekend

Five-star EDGE Dylan Stewart (Photo: Chad Simmons | On3)
There is a new No.1 according to On3 Sports! Dylan Stewart, five-star EDGE from Friendship Collegiate Academy in Washington D.C., supplants Dylan Railoa as the top overall player in the country. The 6-foot-5, 235-pound defender received an offer from Alabama last year.

“My interest is high in Alabama,” Stewart recently told On3 Sports. “I like the winning culture there. The way they get guys to the NFL stands out too. How they produce guys at my position is something else I like.”

Stewart is currently favored to South Carolina according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine. Alabama will have an opportunity to shift momentum after his weekend trip. He is recruited by Travaris Robinson (area recruiter) and Coleman Hutzler (outside linebackers coach).

I care. Just looks like things are slow right now.

1 top 10 player is commited to Bama, 2 of the 5 stars; and according to On3, Bama ain't leading for nobody else.

So, I'm just waiting.
