I know I'm in the minority but I still don't understand why Darnell Wright is rated so highly. I don't see it. He can bend and he has movement, but I haven't seen him actually perform well in camp and his film doesn't blow me away.

5-star OT Darnell Wright 6-6/320 WV hudl
quote:

Evaluation (247) -- Carries 315 pounds like it is 285. Aggressive, long and moves well laterally. Strong lower body helps him recover quickly. Has the foot speed and mentality to play left tackle. Has nasty streak. He is athletic, bends well at the knees and is quick. Changes direction well and can combat speed and strength pass rushers. Runs well and gets to second level blocks quickly. Is fluid when he pulls. Competes hard. Needs to improve technique. Powerful initial punch but needs to be more consistent with hand placement. Dips head and gets caught off balance at times. Upper tier Power 5 multi-year starter with first-round potential.
quote:

DARNELL WRIGHT -- Wright came a long way during his sophomore season, and his ceiling is incredibly high. He can be a cornerstone left tackle in college. He has length, athleticism, quick feet and he is explosive. Refining his technique is the key. He drives well in the running game, but he needs to be more precise with his hand placements. As he adds strength, he will be difficult to disengage from for the defensive player. He can get to the second level quickly. In pass protection, he moves his feet quickly to protect the outside. His length allows him to stem momentum of the rusher with an initial punch. He must continue to develop his kick step, but his feet are quick and he slides well so he is able to make up for that in high school. -- Brian Dohn

Despite 5-star status, Darnell Wright doesn't seek spotlight (video in link)

Thanks, I'll do what I can, but the only recruiting news I get here in FL is what members of this board are willing to share, and from AL.com. I can't help much if at all, on this board's major subject.

I'll probably give a lot of up votes to try showing my appreciation. Down votes? From what I've seen while lurking for 10 or so years, not many, if any at all.

I pretty much said that. He has ability.

I have seen nothing on film, from camps or games which makes him a can't miss 5-star.

Eval Neal is so much better than him and his film (both camp and game) support this.

It appears Neal is higher than Wright Bama's OL board, but they like both A LOT.

I countered with a green arrow How could anyone not get excited by that. Not sure if it would ever happen, but damn, that looks like a wonderful month of football

Four is enough and more than eight is silly, imo. The teams ranked 9-16 do not deserve to get in.

How about this? -- Simple scheduling criteria that must be met to qualify for the playoffs:

1) P5 teams must schedule at least 9 P5 teams and no FCS teams.

2) G5 teams must schedule at least 3 P5 teams and no FCS teams.

That'd promote more competitive games and fewer crappy games during the season and help separate pretenders from the real contenders.

Kevin Norwood tweeted it out and someone put it on BOL.

I think it would be fantastic too.

Get rid of the conference championship games and let the 16 best teams battle it out.

The SEC would get four teams in the playoffs as it stands right now, so the money they would lose on getting rid of the SECCG would be easily replaced.

I say do it.

Why?

It would only add one game to the schedule if you cancelled the conference championship games.

I'd like to drop an out of conference game too, if everyone is concerned over the number of games

Do not like and see many games that would be boring. Like UGA vs UF again.

Keep it at 4.

Take the best 10 games a team plays to determine if they go. Forcing teams to not schedule non P5 games especially FBS. CCG will carry more weight if it is used as a 10th data point because it should be vs a ranked team.

Also a team like UM for example losing to #3 ND early in the season could use the loss as a 10th data point and it would look far better then 1 of the 3 cupcakes we schedule. So a loss may not hurt where scheduling a non P5 and getting a win would.

Teams that play 9 conference games + 1 P5 and teams that play 8 conference games and 2 P5 would reap the benefits. Eventually we would see a lot more P5 OOC games.

So instead of making teams and conferences conform to be the same now they have a choice but the outcome may not be what they want so they will conform to better scheduling.

Yep. Roster management becomes a nightmare with a 16 team playoff because you don't have a big enough field to justify an NFL style approach to injuries, but you are playing so many games that the championship may end up being a cripple fight.

That won't happen though. Those games are worth too much money to get rid of them. They won't take an approach of "we can cancel that game, add these and make a little more money." They will look at it as "we can just add these games and make a frick ton more money."

I'm watching the Hewitt- Thompson game. I wonder if they are using the old Jefferson pilot cameras from the 80s
