SEC RECRUITING CHAMPION: Georgia

This one is shaping up to be another battle between Nick Saban and Kirby Smart. The Crimson Tide had won two-straight national titles in the Rivals.com Team Recruiting Rankings before the Bulldogs knocked them off in 2018.

Alabama not only leads the SEC, but its class of 21 verbal commitments leads the nation once again. Georgia only has 16 commitments, and the Bulldogs are likely to sign a full class of 25, so they have plenty of room to grow this class.

You cannot rule out Texas A&M (No. 2 in the SEC) or LSU (No. 4 in the SEC), but the Aggies already have 25 commitments in their class and LSU has three more commitments than Georgia, with the Bulldogs expected to close a little stronger. There is still nearly two months to go though.

This could come down to who keeps the uncommitted five-stars in their state at home. Will Alabama land Clay Webb? Can Georgia get Jadon Haselwood back? Both are expected to sign in December and enroll at the school of their choice in January.

Georgia recently lost three commitments, but has since added Rivals100 safety Lewis Cine. The Bulldogs are looking to land at least two, maybe three more defensive backs in this class. Tyrique Stevenson and Kaiir Elam are elite cornerbacks to watch and Florida State commitment Nick Cross is another safety the Bulldogs are targeting.

Looking back at how Smart and his staff has closed in their first two years on the job, you expect them to win a lot more than they lose in these late battles. Still, this is going to be a battle down the stretch in the SEC, and this race is expected to be very tight.

This fricking clown. He talks about Georgia signing a full class yet dismisses the fact that we will sign 28 or 29.

Take Two: Can Clemson land Quavaris Crouch and Clay Webb? (Rivals)

quote:

THE STORYLINE

Clemson had a boatload of top-end visitors on campus this past weekend as the Tigers dismantled NC State, 41-7, and two names in particular are of serious interest as the early signing period creeps closer.

The former No. 1 prospect in the class who now sits at ninth overall, Quavaris Crouch, was at Clemson as the Tigers have made him a top priority in the class. Alabama, South Carolina, Tennessee and others are involved but it seems like Clemson continues to hold a firm grip on his recruitment.

The other five-star that drew a lot of attention this past weekend at Clemson was No. 1 center Clay Webb from Oxford, Ala., who plays his recruitment close to the vest and does not seek out the limelight even on his visits. Georgia is a serious player in his recruitment along with Alabama - and the Crimson Tide don’t lose out on many in-state prospects when they’re a top priority.

Clemson can recruit with the best in the country. After weekend visits there, can the Tigers sway Crouch and Webb - two five-star studs - to join this recruiting class?

FIRST TAKE: PAUL STRELOW, TIGERILLUSTRATED.COM

“Patience has been a key component in pursuing both Crouch and Webb, and that has manifested in some momentum with both five-stars. With Crouch, the combination of profile and proximity always promised to keep Clemson’s seat at the table. But it’s been as much the other suitors falling off via their performances that has bolstered the Tigers’ standing before even reaching official visits.

“I wouldn’t necessarily cast Clemson’s stock as rising with Webb; it’s more that folks haven’t recognized that the Tigers have been in legit contention. But Georgia’s tug is particularly strong in this recruitment, and you never necessarily dismiss Alabama for an in-state blue-chipper it covets either. Only two months remain before his decision, and yet it feels like there’s a long way to go for the winning party.”

SECOND TAKE: MIKE FARRELL, RIVALS.COM

“Clemson is one of those schools that will have a chance with anyone they’re involved with so it wouldn’t shock me if they got Webb and Crouch. Crouch was always interested in Clemson. It was always going to be Clemson or Alabama from what I heard early on."

I guess we just don't want Crouch at this point.

A-List lookahead: How do future Alabama QBs match up heading into Friday’s showdown?

quote:

Thompson quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa and Hewitt-Trussville quarterback Paul Tyson have never played against each other in a regular-season game.

That ends Friday night when the Huskies (4-1) visit Thompson’s brand-spanking-new on-campus stadium for a Class 7A, Region 3 showdown. Both teams remain alive in the region championship race.

The spotlight, of course, will on the quarterbacks, both of whom have committed to Alabama and will presumably spend the next few years in a head-to-head battle to be the Crimson Tide's starter after Tua Tagovailoa, Taulia's older brother.

So, how do the two stars stack up heading into Friday's showdown?

Taulia has completed 207-of-321 passes for 2,836 yards, with 27 TD passes and four interceptions, this season.

Tyson is 170-for-241 passing for 2,427 yards, with 24 touchdowns and four interceptions, this season.

With both players on the same field, the game just might determine who wins the Mr. Football award.

9. Paul Tyson, QB, Hewitt-Trussville: The Alabama commit plays at Thompson.

10. Christian Williams, DB, Daphne: The Alabama commit and the Trojans are fighting for their playoff lives at St. Paul’s on Friday.

11. D.J. Dale, DL, Clay-Chalkville: The Alabama commit and the Cougars play at home against Huffman.

12. Jaydon Hill, DB, Bob Jones: The Florida commit suffered a season-ending knee injury earlier this season and is out for Friday’s game against Huntsville.

13. Patrick Lucas, DL, Wetumpka: The Ole Miss commit and his teammates make the long drive to play at Muscle Shoals on Friday.

14. D.J. James, DB, Spanish Fort: The Mississippi State commit and the Toros play at Gulf Shores on Friday.

15. Jamil Muhammad, QB, James Clemens: The Vanderbilt commit and the Jets put their six-game winning streak on the line at Austin on Friday in the Class 7A, Region 4 championship game.

FWIW, DJ James told John Garcia this weekend that Alabama is coming after him hard. I have some serious doubts about it though.

UA wants Crouch like most at LB where is projected better but he wants to play RB and Clemson offering that. He has said he does not care but he prefers RB and Dabo selling it to him. Kid reminds me of James Wilder a few years back that only wanted to play RB but was projected better at LB.

Also he still is injured

LSU-Alabama tickets already priced in the thousands on resale market

If you want to be in Tiger Stadium on Nov. 3, you’re not alone. If you don’t already have a ticket, it’s going to cost you a pretty penny (actually a lot of pennies).

LSU, ranked No. 5 and expected to move up, is now 7-1 after beating Mississippi State. No. 1 Alabama is 8-0. It sure feels like we’re about to get a follow-up to 2011’s Game of the Century.

With SEC Championship Game and College Football Playoff implications, it’s not surprise to learn that tickets for Alabama’s trip to Baton Rouge on Nov. 3 are in high demand on StubHub.

The current lowest price for a ticket is $220.80 in row AA of the East Upper level, section 639. Switch the filter from “Lowest price” to “Best seats” and the prices jump astronomically.

Stadium Club seats are currently available at asking prices starting at $1,800 per ticket (two tickets in Lower Level Stadium Club 109). Scroll a little further down “Best seats” and you’ll see even more big listings. Six “Level 3 Stadium Club 310” tickets are going for $3,000 each.

Some fans, presumably dead set on attending the game, have listed four West 103 tickets at $9,000.00 each.

Happy browsing – for those with deep pockets.

This could be old news, but Wandale Robinson is down to Nebraska, Ohio State, and Kentucky. Article from yesterday out of Omaha: LINK

quote:

The consensus four-star athlete/running back and his parents have absorbed all they need to in advance of his Nov. 1 commitment date. Reports surfaced last week that the 5-foot-9, 179-pound playmaker might make one more trip to Nebraska this weekend for the Bethune-Cookman game before making his final decision.

But his father, Dale Robinson, told The World-Herald on Monday the family has decided the Western Hills (Frankfort, Kentucky) High School star will focus on his final regular-season home game this weekend.

Still, the elder Robinson said, that doesn't necessarily mean bad news for the Huskers. Wandale Robinson is now focusing on Nebraska, Kentucky and Ohio State after recently trimming Alabama, Purdue and Michigan from his list.

Sorry if I missed this before.

Cobra, I was coaching at Fultondale when you finished! I graduated UA in December of '93 and was hired there in January. Spent 5 1/2 years there before moving away to Sylacauga. Small world!!! We were up at Center Point HS a couple of weeks ago for a Region game. Nice school but definitely not the area I remember!!!

Damn, you were coaching there when Fultondale had Enoch Mallory (I just killed the spelling). That guy was a hell of a running back. I'm not sure what happened to him.
