My father-in-law is dealing with it right now too. Had the surgery to remove it back in July. Will still have to do the radiation.

My father had it. Get the prostatectomy and hopefully it’s contained and not in lymph nodes. It can return if you opt for the radiation only therapy. My dad survived and it’s been ten years I think. Tell your wife there is a high success ratio with this cancer. Will be praying for you and your family.

Oh shite Gibbons actually kept a high 4* instead of getting poached by St Thomas Aquinas. Last time we had someone ranked that high was Daniel Wright.

The regular Alabama recruiter, casey, for that school is incredibly sweet and they feed a dozen or so people to Bama out of state every year. Lots of Alabama alumni have kids that go there too. The program isn't a feeder into FSU/Florida and it's pretty across the board in fandom overall.

Which school are you referring to in the second paragraph, Cardinal Gibbons or St Thomas Aquinas? And who is Casey?

LINK ]Elite DL committed elsewhere sets Alabama visit (BamaOnLine)

quote:

Alabama will host Arkansas State for its home opener on Saturday, and while it won't be the biggest recruiting weekend of the season, a couple of very important targets are already expected in attendance.

On Tuesday, BamaOnLine reported that 5-star center Clay Webb would attend the game with his mother, which will mark the Oxford (Ala.) product's first trip back to campus since the Champions Cookout in June.

On Wednesday evening, 4-star defensive lineman and Mississippi State commit LINK ]Nathan Pickering announced that he would be taking an unofficial visit to Tuscaloosa on Saturday for the game.

The Seminary (Miss.) product will be making his first trip back to the Capstone since an unofficial visit in June shortly before committing to Mississippi State.

Pickering's commitment to the Bulldogs came as somewhat of a surprise as far as timing goes. The 6-foot-3. 286-pounder didn't appear anywhere near a decision the week prior to announcing.

Despite his pledge, however, Pickering still plans to utilize all of his official visits, one of which will go to the Tide meaning Alabama will likely get at least two more on-campus cracks to flip the talented defender.

The Tide staff impressed Pickering and his family, especially his mother, earlier this summer. Pickering's mom even said she would have committed to Alabama had it been her decision.

“In my opinion … I’m not going to school and I’m not going to choose for him, but I am the mother,” Carla Pickering told BamaOnLine at the time. “If I had to choose, when I left that school yesterday, I would have committed. That’s my choice. I’m just the mother.

“It was one of the best experiences I have had in this recruitment process. And it was more because someone the caliber of Coach (Nick) Saban and the people that are on his team … you could not tell these people were billionaires. He made it so comfortable for us that I actually sat back in the chair like I was at home. It was an amazing visit.”

Pickering is a big target of Alabama's in an important year for defensive linemen. If he were to flip his commitment to the Tide, he wouldn't be the only defensive lineman from Mississippi in the class. Alabama landed 4-star Laurel native Byron Young earlier this summer.

Pickering also isn't the only Mississippi defensive lineman committed elsewhere that the Tide is pursuing. Bama will likely host 4-star defensive end and Auburn commit Jaren Handy out of Hattiesburg later this fall.

Pickering is rated the No. 4 strong-side defensive end and the No. 60 overall player in the country, per the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

I’m referring to Gibbons.

The recruiter I named handles the South florida region for Alabama. With the focus on out of state students in recent years they’ve made a huge push on recruiting high schoolers and employ people to set up banquets/speaking events/visit high schools/etc. Through them you can get a whole itinerary for a university visit where you meet deans, professors, get a tour, etc. So think those college fairs that high schools have but you hired actual professionals and ramped it up to 1000X instead of having random alumni represent you once a year.

One of my college roommates would travel with the the president to random speaking engagements for top flight kids they were trying to pull. He basically rode a private jet every month or so and hit Dallas, Atlanta, DC, etc. for a week. I don’t think I’ve ever heard or seen another state school do anything close to what Alabama has been doing for high school students.

In these short assessments, these are the: Biggest Takeaways From Week 2 concerning our recruits in 2020

COMMENTS
I got a chance to see several high-profile athletes in action last weekend and was very impressed with a couple of guys. But there was one that Alabama fans will be very interested in that showed they still have room for improvement. Here is my biggest takeaway from the highly anticipated matchup between Hoover and St.John’s, which ended with a huge St.John’s win by a score of 42-14.

*=Alabama Commits

*Will Reichard

Reichard missed the one field goal he attempted and went 2-of-2 on extra points. He missed a 30-yard field goal. He went 1-of-2 on field goals the week prior. Hearing about missed field goals by an Alabama kicker commit may give Alabama fans a sick feeling in their stomach but it is important to note that Reichard has shown some great potential in the past and this is most likely a rough patch for him. If Reichard’s push through this adversity and gets back on track, it will show Tide fans they have a resilient kicker coming in. He will also most likely have a year to develop in Tuscaloosa before he is called on to be the Tide’s kicker on a consistent base. He did have some impressive punts.

*Keilan Robinson

Robinson was in limited action last weekend. A lightning delay caused the game to be canceled halfway through the first quarter on Friday. The game was rescheduled to 9 a.m. that morning. Robinson played on Friday night but was not in action on Saturday. In his limited action, he did show flashes of what he can do. He ran the ball hard and it seemed like he was a few plays away from breaking off a big one. He is a shorter back that has a bit of a compact frame, which allows him to fit in tight gaps and explode in the secondary. I think this kid has a chance to be yet another great Alabama running back.

Rakim Jarrett

I was most impressed with Jarrett. He has a toughness about him that you do not usually see from the wide receiver position. He was constantly giving the secondary fits and showed why he was one of the top wideouts in the nation. This is the very reason Nick Saban told Jarrett he reminded him of Amari Cooper but tougher. His routes are crisp and he also has breakaway speed, similar to the Alabama great, Cooper, but the way he brings out the toughness within himself and his teammates make him a totally different animal. He ended the game with 5 receptions for 124 yards and 1 touchdown.

Mekhail Sherman

Sherman had a pretty impressive game as well. The 5-Star linebacker helped St.John’s hold Hoover’s high powered offense to just 14 points by constantly putting pressure on 2020 dual-threat quarterback, Robby Ashford. His presence played a big role in the Cadet’s defense. His large stature was enough for Hoover to try to avoid by itself. An important note is Sherman is really high on Alabama. He loves the Tide’s defensive coordinator, Tosh Lupoi.

Tre’ Williams

Williams has Alabam in his top 10 and is very impressed with Alabama’s defensive line production. He made some good plays and helped St.John’s clogged up the middle. The most impressive part of his games was the amount of pressure he was able to put on the quarterback on passing plays. He forced Ashford to leave the pocket several times.

Mekhail Sherman Believes In Alabama’s Player Development

Alabama 2020 defensive target, Mekhail Sherman’s, size may make you question his age but his play will make you want him on your team.

Sherman received an offer from Alabama this summer. The main thing that stood out to him about the Tide is the way they develop their players.

“I like the way they develop players,” Sherman said. “They can take anyone and turn them into an NFL level talent.”

Alabama defensive coordinator, Tosh Lupoi, left a big impression on Sherman. A familiar face to Sherman also has him excited about Alabama.

“I love the way they have developed Terrel Lewis, who also went to St.John’s,” Sherman said.

St. John’s was faced with a bit of a challenge in their matchup with Hoover. The game was set to be played on Friday night but a lightning delay caused the game to be rescheduled to Saturday at 9 a.m., which caused St. John’s to go back to the Hotel around 11 pm. and wake up at 6 a.m. to prepare for a 9 a.m. kickoff. Sherman believes that he and his teammates were not distracted by these events.

“That is just football. This is what we do,” Sherman said. “We get up at 6:30 in the morning and get after it.”

His hard work has paid off and currently has him ranked as a 5-Star recruit. It is easy to see why he is considered one of the top defensive players in the nation. He has the ability to play outside linebacker as well as provide pressure off the edge with great efficiency.

Alabama knows all too well what linebacker depth means. They currently have one linebacker committed in the 2020 class in Jackson Barton Sherman would be a great addition.
