LINK ]Four-star DB set to commit at Polynesian Bowl (247Sports, embedded video)

quote:

Noa Pola-Gates has a leader, has locked in his first official visit and, now, has a commitment date. The 4-star defensive back from Gilbert (Ariz.) Williams Field announced that he would be revealing his college choice on Jan. 19 during the 2019 Polynesian Bowl inside Aloha Stadium in Honolulu, Hawaii.

"Being able to announce my commitment at the Polynesian Bowl in Hawaii means so, so much to me," Pola-Gates told 247Sports. "It means a lot because it's about my heritage and I take pride in that. I take it very serious and I know it's going to be make a special moment even more memorable for me and my family.

"Being able to announce in January does give me a little gap and allows me to check all my boxes off when it comes to a decision. I know it's going to give me enough time to go through everything and make things official."

Pola-Gates has not been shy about stating that Alabama, which he has visited twice this offseason, holds a healthy lead in his recruitment. All nine votes in the Crystal Ball are currently for the Crimson Tide and Pola-Gates told 247Sports that he intends to save his final official for Tuscaloosa, most likely at the end of the season or just before the early signing period in December.

Penn State is set to host the 6-foot-2, 180-pound prospect during the Sept. 29 weekend when the Nittany Lions take on Ohio State in the "White Out" game. It is the only official visit Pola-Gates has set, but several other programs are making a strong push as well.

Texas is a newcomer of sorts, having offered this past spring evaluation period, but Pola-Gates said he has felt a lot of attention from safeties coach Craig Naivar as well as recruiting assistant Jake Langi. Pola-Gates plans to visit Austin for the first time during the season.

USC and Oregon have been in the picture much longer and have continued the keep tabs on the physical and versatile defensive back prospect. The Trojans are a lifelong family favorite and currently feature his cousin, redshirt freshman safety Isaiah Pola-Mao, while the Ducks drew a visit this past spring and look to add Pola-Gates to an already strong secondary class.

Arizona State is also involved, Pola-Gates said, and he's been impressed with the strides the program has taken this year. "ASU is definitely an option," Pola-Gates said. "It's home and my parents would obviously want me to stay closer to home, but I know it would be good to be a hometown hero there. I like their defense and I feel like I could fit in perfectly. I really liked the energy and intensity I saw from them in practice as well."

Pola-Gates is the nation's No. 24-rated safety and No. 7 overall prospect in the state of Arizona for the 2019 class, per the industry-generated 247Sports Composite rankings. The Polynesian Bowl will air live on CBS Sports Network.

Alabama’s 2020 Class Makes Big Splash in ESPN Junior 300

quote:

The ESPN jr. 300 was released on Friday and all of Alabama’s commits made the list. The Tide’s 2020 recruiting class has a total of five commits. All of them are ranked as 4-Stars, according to ESPN. Jayson Elijah Jones lead the way with the highest ranking. Here is how the Tide’s entire 2020 recruiting class fared.

Jayson Elijah Jones No. 39

Jones weighs in at 322 pounds and is 6-feet-5-inches tall. This kid has leader written all over him. Tide fans should look for him to have a similar impact to the one Pierce Quick has had on the 2019 recruiting class. This guy is a monster, that is difficult to tame. His combination of size and power makes him a defensive mismatch for most offensive linemen.

Jackson Bratton No. 67

Bratton is a product of Muscle Shoals, Alabama. He has great size for the linebacker position at 6-feet-3-inches and 215 pounds. He will continue to fill out his frame during his last two seasons of high school football. Bratton knows how to anchor a defense and be a leader. He is very vocal and knows how to communicate with his teammates. One of his biggest tools is his tackling ability. He knows how to lower the boom and make ball carriers remember him for the rest of the night.

Dazalin Worsham No. 71

Worsham is very quick and makes the most of his speed. He is dangerous in the open field and knows how to create space. His style of play is very similar to Alabama wideouts, DeVonta Smith and Henry Ruggs, which is one of the many reasons he chose the Tide.

Carson Beck No. 89

Beck surprised everyone when he chose the Tide during an unofficial visit. He was previously committed to play baseball at Florida but flipped his football and baseball commitment to the Tide. His sophomore season was cut to four games but that didn’t stop him from producing. He threw for 16 touchdowns and 994 passing yards.

He has great size at 6-feet-3-inches and 214 pounds. His ability to throw the ball deep and put enough air under it, so his wideout has time to adjust is remarkable. He is also athletic enough to make plays on the run when things break down.

Javier Morton No. 149

Morton is a product of Stone Mountain, Georgia. He stands at 6-feet-1-inches and weighs 175 pounds. He has great ball judgment skills and a slender frame that enables him to leap into the air and fight for these 50/50 balls. He is not extremely fast but has the potential to make an impact in a zone coverage defense, which is what he currently plays in most of the time. The Georgia-native will continue to improve as he is only a sophomore. He gave Alabama a verbal commitment on Dec. 1.

Is there a reality of him being a slot WR?

FWIW, Kevin Hagan mentioned him as a WR prospect earlier in the week and I thought he may have misspoken because that was the first I had ever heard anything but APB.

Having said that, 3714 has said that Hagan is legit AND Hagan lives in Kentucky and he went (or maybe it was his wife) to the kids HS.

When Bill King asked him about recruiting he said he’s a kid Bama fans need to keep an I on.

I agree, it’s a bit of a head scratcher but maybe a bit so less at WR than APB. Nevertheless, he’s a kid that actually earned his offer by camping at Bama so they definitely see something valuable in him and have seen him perform in person.

Also, Saban likes to recruit at least one player every couple years that’s his height.

Eta: And we already have the white LB committed for next year so that box is checked.

Go on. I’m afraid you took a comment meant as a joke, followed in the next sentence by explanation that you ignored, and chose to be offended. That’s on you not me, but feel free to be “honest” about me internet stranger.

I’m not trying to be an Internet tough guy. I said you were a minority of one as a Home. Then I followed it up with a comment that if talent is equal I’d agree we want the Bama guy. If talent is not equal then go with greater talent of the two. How you took offense to that is beyond me but it’s all good.
