What year was there an secret email circle jerk list of all the recruiting inside info. I forgot who was sending the info out.

This new red shirt rule is incredible. My dumb arse thought it was only the first four games of the season. But four games throughout the whole season? What a great frickin rule. About time the NCAA implemented a good rule for the benefit of the student athlete. Coach Saban is licking his chops.

Dang where have I been. When did this become a rule. Will be good to see some of the young guys that we wouldn't be able to see normally.

I'd imagine they can find an apartment in Trussville.
Trussville doesn't allow apartments. There are two 8ish unit buildings grandfathered in, and they will never see a vacancy. The only apartment complex in the city limits was forced to go condo.

Hold up what???
Trussville doesn't allow apartments to be built in the city limits, and when they went on their annexation binge a few years ago, they annexed around the apartment complexes, even the (brand new and very nice at the time) Colonial development near Home Depot.
The single real apartment complex in the city (formerly Meadow Lane) became condominiums several years back.
No apartments, except to my knowledge, two very small buildings off Vann Circle.

I had a buddy that lived in those apartments. We had some good times. I bet that was almost 20 years ago

They also don't allow transfers from out of zone, and they are very strict about that. Unless you play football, apparently.

Trussvegas was a lot more fun in the 90's.

'20 ATH Jordan Banks already a national recruit
quote:
Harbor City (Calif.) Narbonne is home to one of the top defensive players in the 2020 class in athlete Jordan Banks.
Banks is one of the more intriguing defensive players out West and has the versatility to play multiple positions. At a rock solid 6-3, 250 pounds, Banks projects as a defensive end at the college level but will play linebacker for the Gauchos.
For his size, Banks moves extremely well and has shown at various camps and the 7v7 circuit that he’s an every down ‘backer who can play in space, drop in coverage and blitz. He’s a junior and is still filling out and when he hits college, we can see him playing with his hand on the ground as a 275 pound rush end or stay at outside ‘backer in a 3-4 scheme.
Regardless of what position he plays, his upside is obvious and he has a chance to be among the most heavily recruited athletes in the 2020 West Coast class.
On the recruiting front, Banks has early scholarship offers from Arizona State, Auburn, Florida, Tennessee and Utah.
“I think USC could be coming soon and hopefully Alabama as well,” Banks said. “Right now, the school I’m talking with the most is probably Tennessee. They’re really recruiting me hard right now and I like them a lot.
“I’ve never been out there before but would like to try and get up there for a game. I’ve heard great things about the new staff and the new facilities they’re building so I have a lot of interest there. I like ASU too. They're a great school and I like the new facilities they're building. AP (Antonio Pierce) is the one who offered me and I like what they're doing over there and I'm definitely interested."
Banks has camped at USC multiple times this off-season and also visited UCLA.
“I like USC a lot and had a good time at the camps there,” Banks said. “Every time I’m there the coaches tell me how much they like me but I think they’re still trying to figure out where to play me so they said they just need to see more of me with the pads on.
“I like UCLA a lot too and had a great visit there. They told me I’m one of the top 2020 players on their board but they don’t want to offer too many players in my class until the season starts. They said once they start offering kids in my class, I’ll be one of the first to get one so I’m looking forward to that and I really like what they’re doing and the direction they’re going in.”
Banks said he’s no hurry to cut his list down and wants to play the process out before making a decision.
“I’ve never been anywhere outside of Southern California so I would like to take some visits,” Banks said. “I like Auburn a lot and would love to check them out. If Alabama offered, that’s another school I would like to see.
“Right now, I think it would be good to play out my junior season, see what all my options are and then cut my list to five after my junior year. Then I can take some visits as a senior and make a decision later in the year.”

Top 10 performers in the East/Mid-Atlantic in the spring/summer
quote:
The camp and combine season began in early April in the East/Mid-Atlantic region, and it gave 247Sports recruiting analyst Brian Dohn the opportunity to see talent from across the region.
It began with a combine in early April and culminated at The Opening Finals in Frisco, Texas, earlier this month. During the events, hundreds of prospects were scouted and evaluated, and there were a bundle of outstanding performances.
But this about the best, and and this feature takes a look at who was the best of the best from the region. It includes a hearty mix of class of 2020 prospects who are ready to take center stage in recruiting in the fall as well as some of the top players in the 2019 class. Of the 10 players to make the list, six are from the 2020 class, and four of the 10 are already committed to schools. Alabama, Penn State, Virginia Tech and Notre Dame pledges each made the list.
Who is the Alpha Dog from the circuit? What about the top surprise or the 2020 prospect to keep an eye on once the 2018 high school season begins?

NO. 5 -- RAKIM JARRETT, WR
Rakim Jarrett, who is a class of 2020 receiver from Washington (D.C.) St. John's, tore it up at the Under Armour camp outside of Baltimore. He was tremendous getting off the line of scrimmage, he tracked the ball well and he made some difficult catches look easy. He has a top four of Ohio State, Penn State, Alabama and Florida State. He said he could decide anywhere between now and when he signs in 17 or so months. He is slated to visit Ohio State later this month.

NO. 4 -- MEKHAIL SHERMAN, OLB
One of the more impressive things to see during The Opening Finals at The Star in Frisco, Texas, earlier this month was class of 2020 linebacker Mekhail Sherman moving in space. The five-star and No. 2 outside linebacker in the 247Sports Composite was covering elite running backs 40 yards down the field, and he made it look easy. The Washington (D.C.) St. John's standout changes direction well and his acceleration is off the charts. His Top 10 is comprised of Penn State, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, Auburn, Notre Dame, Clemson, Ohio State, Oklahoma and Michigan, and he will be at Ohio State next week.
Sherman may be at the top of 2020 wish list.

NO. 2 -- BRYAN BRESEE, DE
Bryan Bresee usually dominates the competition on the combine circuit, but the No. 1 player in the 247Sports Composite in the 2020 class surpassed even his own standards at The Opening Regional in New Jersey in early April. Bresee, a defensive end from Damascus (Md.) High, obliterated the competition with his speed off the edge and his lethal spin move. There were reps he was barely even touched. His recently-released Top 15 consists of Florida, Oklahoma, Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, Georgia, Florida State, Alabama, Clemson, Wisconsin, Texas A&M, Notre Dame, Virginia Tech, LSU and USC.

NO. 1 -- ANTONIO ALFANO, DE
Alabama commit Antonio Alfano put on the biggest show of the spring when he dominated The Opening Regional in New Jersey in early April. The 6-foot-4, 285-pound Alfano showed his twitch by exploding past offensive linemen at the event. He was fast, quick, his change of direction was excellent and his technique was very good. He is the No. 4 strong side defensive end and No. 55 player overall in the 247Sports Composite. The Colonia (N.J.) High standout entered the event with a huge target on his back, and he set the bar for others for the rest of the spring to reach. And none did.

Any other major camps/events the same weekend as the the Second Champions Cookout? I know Miami is doing one. Figure it would be good to keep an eye out for those, see where prospects go. I am guessing that since it is right after the dead period there may be a ton of them though.
Just in case anyone is interested, right now there are 365 blue chippers (4 and 5 stars) on the 247 composite rankings. 144 are uncommitted or about 39.5%.

The last weekend of July is a biggy for visits, following the dead period and before the kids start their fall camps. Schools are competing to get the visits that weekend. Clemson, Tenn and Oklahoma have cookouts then too.

Garfield recently raised the question of whether players on a non-athletic scholly count against the 25/85 (initial/total) limits. In responding, Carlton posted this NCAA Bylaws section:
We discussed it and noticed that it doesn't address non-recruited players. So, I studied the Bylaws thoroughly concerning players on non-athletic aid and then added what I learned to:
LINK ]Signing and Counter Limits / NCAA Bylaws (That link is in the 1st post of this thread.)
Here's what I learned and added:
6) Non-athletic aid (15.5.6.3.7) — A recruited player (OV, off-campus meeting or NLI; 15.02.8) on non-athletic scholarship only counts toward signee and initial/total limits if/when he plays in a game. Exception (15.5.1.2.1) — A recruited player on academic scholarship, after one year with a 3.0/4.0 GPA, may then play and remain a non-counter. Apparently, a non-recruited player on non-athletic aid may play as a non-counter.
ETA: The term "competes" = plays in a game; it does not include practicing and being on the sidelines suited up.

[FBS/FCS] In accordance with Bylaw 15.5.1.2, a recruited student-athlete (per Bylaw 15.02.8) receiving institutional financial aid certified as having been granted without regard in any degree to athletics ability becomes an initial counter in the first academic year in which the student-athlete competes on the varsity level. (See Bylaw 15.5.1.2.1.) (Revised: 10/27/05 effective 8/1/06, 1/15/11 effective 8/1/11)
