Minkah Fitzpatrick, safety: $10,042,016
The 11th player picked in the 2018 NFL Draft, Fitzpatrick's four-year rookie contract is worth $16,447,773. But $10,042,016 was in the form of a signing bonus, and Fitzpatrick signed on June 1. Da'Ron Payne, Rashaan Evans and Calvin Ridley, the other 2018 first-round draft choices from Alabama, also signed four-year contracts worth more than $10 million in total value.

Two other former Saban players are scheduled to pass the $10 million mark in earnings from their NFL teams during the 2018 season --
Green Bay Packers safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix and Baltimore Ravens inside linebacker C.J. Mosley (above).
Each player had his fifth-year option picked up. That will pay Mosley $8.718 million and Clinton-Dix $5.947 million for the 2018 season.

LINK ]BREAKING: Alabama lands 4-star WR John Metchie (BamaOnLine)

Another commitment in for the Tide
Four-star wide receiver LINK ]John Metchie made his decision known on Friday to join Alabama (Twitter video) after an official visit to Tuscaloosa last month.
“If I committed to Bama the reason I’d choose them would be the mentality of the players and the coaches — it’s the kind of mentality I have,” Metchie said after his trip to the Capstone. “It’s a place you go to get better … where they push you to be the best you can be.”
The Hagerstown (Md.) St. James School product chose the Tide over Penn State, among others. One of the take-home moments from his inaugural visit to T-Town came from his time spent with head coach Nick Saban.
“The conversation with Coach Saban was more about the life lessons you would learn at Bama, the opportunities you would get there to be successful, whether it be a football player or whatever career you choose,” Metchie said. “It was about why Alabama would be such a good opportunity from a standpoint of what it has to offer.”
Wide receivers coach Josh Gattis and offensive coordinator Mike Locksley led the charge in Metchie’s recruitment.
At 6-feet, 195 pounds, Metchie is rated the No. 42 wide receiver and the No. 276 overall player in the country, per the 247Sports Composite. The Tide had been trending on the 247Sports Crystal Ball prior to his commitment.

The East Coast native is the first wide receiver commitment in Alabama’s 2019 class. Other top targets at the position include Jameson Williams, Devonta Lee (who is also recruited as a safety), Milton Wright, and Auburn commit George Pickens, to name a few.
Metchie’s pledge is also the third in the Tide’s class from the state of Maryland. He joins four-star inside linebacker Shane Lee from Baltimore’s St. Frances Academy and four-star safety DeMarcco Hellams from Hyattsville’s DeMatha Catholic. The Tide signed five-star edge rusher Eyabi Anoma from St. Frances in the 2018 cycle.
Overall, Metchie is commitment No. 19 for the Tide, which strengthens its hold on the No. 1 spot in the 247Sports Composite Team Recruiting Rankings with a score of 284.85. The No. 2 team in the standings, Texas A&M, sits with a score of 261.63. Last year, the Tide finished with a score of 285.83.
With the pledge, Alabama’s class is quickly filling up ahead of the fall. This time last year, Alabama held just a handful of commitments and resided outside the top 50 spot of the rankings. The script has been flipped in the 2019 cycle as the Tide has had a firm grasp atop the recruiting standings for the last two months and doesn’t look like it will lose that spot anytime soon.

Born in Taiwan, before living in Nigeria and then Ghana, which all came prior to making his way to the Toronto area, it's obvious new Alabama receiver commit John Metchie took the road less traveled to Tuscaloosa. It was in Canada where his three older brothers fell in love with American football and that passion was passed down to him.
You could also say the older Metchie boys also paved the way for all this. Mom was against Metchie’s older brothers leaving home for boarding school in the United States to chase football dreams, but by the time John was reaching high school age she gave the okay for him to pursue it. He landed at Hagerstown (Md.) St. James School four years ago, and now he’s pledged to Nick Saban and company.
“My brothers had chances,” Metchie said. “Schools wanted them to come down. My mom wouldn’t let them leave Canada at the time. My mom didn’t want to send my brothers all over the place.” Roots were finally planted in Toronto. Metchie’s mom is from Taiwan and he says his dad was from both Nigeria and Ghana.
“I really don’t know why Canada,” he said. His family is still there, with his brother right above him in age getting drafted in the third round of the 2018 Canadian Football League Draft (only nine selections per round). He convinced her on attending school in the USA.
“It was my brothers that made me fall in love with it. When we moved here (roughly nine years ago) we knew nothing about football. They went to high school and started playing it. I liked watching them and it went on from there.”

As he settled into boarding school quickly, Metchie was an instant impact player at St. James and has already played four years of varsity ball, catching 132 passes over that span for 2,506 yards and 31 touchdowns. He’s rushed for another 1,300 yards on the ground and picked off 10 passes. He chooses Alabama over Penn State among 20-plus other offers.
“The culture and the people, the culture that the best go to Bama and I know I’m the best wide out so I want to go to a place where I will be tested daily and a place that’ll make me the best player I can be,” Metchie said. "Also going to a place where the players all have the same goal and are all willing to buy into the program.”
Once Metchie started watching college football, Alabama quickly became his “dream school.” “I started liking Bama a lot sophomore year,” he said. “The receivers they produce. Julio, Amari and Ridley, especially Amari. I’m constantly watching Amari. constantly watching Amari and Julio.”
It was all she wrote when Metchie took his official to the Crimson Tide campus in June. “I fell in love when I got to campus,” he said. “I just got that inside feeling that it was where I needed to be.”
Metchie has built a strong relationship with Mike Locksley and Josh Gattis. Alabama was everything he was looking for but he needed his mom’s stamp. She still doesn’t know much about football but she attended the official visit as well and she signed off on her son continuing this thing in Tuscaloosa.
“My mom had a huge impact on my decision,” Metchie said. “She doesn’t know much about football but as they say mother knows best. She liked it, she liked it a lot. She liked the people. She’s not a fan of the South, I didn’t think she would like it, but she really liked it.”
Metchie is the first receiver to commit to the Crimson Tide in a class that the 247Sports Composite ranks No. 1 in the country. The consensus four-star recruit ranks as the nation’s No. 42 receiver.

John Metchie has officially announced his verbal commitment to the University of Alabama.
COMMITTED. “We do it for our city” pic.twitter.com/RpG5UfaVuC
— John Jr ??etchie III (@Metchie_Jr) July 6, 2018
Metchie referred to Alabama’s initial offer as a dream one.
“An offer from the national champions means a lot because it doesn’t get more competitive than that,” Metchie said
He took his official visit to Alabama on June 15-17 and told Touchdown Alabama Magazine everything went well.
“The visit was great,” Metchie added. “I really love how the bought in the players are and how they all are hard-working.”
The Maryland-product is a 4-Star wide receiver. His recruitment was a battle between Penn State and Alabama. He took an official visit to Penn State a week before he visited Tuscaloosa and many anticipated he would make a decision after he took visits to both schools.
Metchie is the third Maryland recruit to commit to the Tide and this is clearly a result of Mike Locksley and Josh Gattis familiarity with the area. They are also recruiting four-star safety, Nick Cross, out of Maryland. Metchie is a Canada-native. He moved to the United States to chase his dream of playing football.
Alabama is getting an elite player in Metchie. He is dangerous in space and is one of the more aggressive wideouts in this class. He has experience in the secondary and knows how to make sure he is felt on the defensive side of the ball as well.
Metchie is the second offensive skill player to commit to Alabama’s 2019 recruiting class. He gives the Tide 19 verbal commitments and strengthens their hold on the top spot.
Alabama may not be done for the day as 4-Star tight end, Jahleel Billingsley is also set to make his announcement today at 6 p.m.

We now have 3 of the top 5 in Maryland this cycle with Hellams, Lee and Metchie. The other 2 are Nick Cross (probably going elsewhere unless we miss on Dax Hill and decide to turn up the heat) and Isaiah Hazel (not a priority target).

Bama will land some more top talent from Maryland in the 2020 class too.

ETA: Pretty good chance they'll be back home playing for the Redskins in a few years.

Yep. Eyabi Anoma and Shane Lee’s teammate 2020 5* OLB Chris Braswell already holds an offer and we have the lone CB for him from Hank.

Coach Locksley doing work
He has been a huge asset. Very happy he got the OC job and I believe he will be just as successful calling playe as he has been pulling in all that Maryland/DC talent.
