To piggyback off my Class Calculation above, I just put together a class of 25 guys I feel pretty good about:
Kayvon Thibodeaux
Ishmael Sopsher
Darnell Wright
Trey Sanders
Daxton Hill
Clay Webb
Pierce Quick
Amari Kight
Antonio Alfano
Christian Williams
Shane Lee
Kevin Harris
DeMarcco Hellams
Brandon Turnage
Byron Young
Justin Eboigbe
King Mwikuta
Taulia Tagovailoa
Siaki Ika
DJ Dale
Tanner Bowles
Paul Tyson
Jahleel Billingsley
Keilan Robinson
Will Reichard
The score I got was 324.66.
That would be the best class in recruiting history and we'd still have 2-3 spots left to fill.
ETA: Just for shits and giggles, adding Nakobe Dean, Devonta Lee and Akeem Dent would put us up to 332.12.

5 prospects who stood out at the Opening
This article is from Nola.com so it has a LSU tilt to it, but whatever.

Frisco — The country's top prospects converged at The Star in Dallas for Nike's The Opening and several of those recruits impressed.
Some however really made headlines with their play.
Here's the five prospects that stood out among the nation's elite at The Opening.

quote:
George Pickens, WR, Hoover (Ala.), 2019
Pickens was a go-to receiver in the 7-on-7 tournament and made catch after catch. He was able to consistently get open and when he didn’t get open he made contested catches. The Alabama receiver has interest in LSU and is very interested in seeing how the Tigers perform on offense this season.
He’s committed to Auburn but is going to be highly sought after by several programs following his performance at The Opening.

I like this list. The only two I don't feel good about or Wright (and I think we take Neal anyway if he wants in) and Sospher. And I am probably the only one who isn't confident on those two. Dean not being in the list is not great but Mississippi kids always make me nervous anyway. It also still leaves room for a number of prospects like Lee, Leal, Bogle, Dent, Stevenson amongst others.

How LSU, Louisiana recruits fared at The Opening
quote:
FRISCO, Texas — The Opening came to an end Tuesday with a 7-on-7 championship game that had a very heavy Louisiana presence. Seven prospects with ties to the state played in the final game impressed while doing so.
Over the four-day event LSU commitments and Louisiana prospects were consistently among some of the top performers.
Here's a quick look at how they did.

quote:
Ishmael Sopsher, DL, Amite, 2019
Sophsher, like Thomas, couldn't wear pads at the event so his matchups were limited, but other than Thomas, he was unblockable. Sopsher demonstrated his repertoire of moves as he won rep after rep and made it hard for offensive linemen to put their hands on him.

quote:
Trey Palmer, WR, Kentwood, 2019
Palmer made a couple nice grabs in the 7-on-7s and ran one of the faster 40 times at The Opening.

I'll be honest, I forgot about Dean.
I pulled up the Top Targets list from the 2nd post while I was looking at the Class Calculator and it's fricking hard to pick 2-3 guys from the ones I didn't list. We are in on so many highly rated kids I don't know who to leave out.

Note: Maybe Bama takes Ika (6th DL) instead of Pickens or Milton Wright (3rd WR), but Idk if they prefer Ika over Tuitele. Pickens is the only flip or long shot listed, otherwise Bama is in good shape right now with the rest of them. Devonta Lee could be a great weapon on offense or a beast at safety or even ILB. Daxton Hill could excel as a S or CB.

That's good news considering most of us thought Shane Lee might struggle in coverage due to his size
Going to be a monster once coach coch gets him down to 230.
Starting to think Neal & Sanders will end up where they started... Bama.

Thursday Morning LSU Roundup From The Opening Finals
Our boy Sam Spiegelman got himself a new gig over at Dandy Don's site. Naturally, he put together a very homerish article for LSU, but he also has some snippets on guys we are after and one of our commits.

quote:
Thomas often lined up against fellow 5-star and LSU target Ishmael Sopsher. The battles showed plenty about both of the elite big men. Sopsher flashed some strength to bull-rush Thomas and the speed to beat him off the ball. Thomas, a known student of the game, realized Sopsher’s technique and displayed some quick feet to slow down the Amite standout and definitely contained him more often than not. At tackle, Thomas was able to show off his upper-body strength and athleticism to hold off edge-rushers. Thomas entered the week as the top guard in the country and solidified his spot there in Dallas.
Sopsher had a strong showing, but like many Louisiana defensive linemen in the past, was hindered by the fact that he couldn’t wear pads. Sopsher’s blend of quickness and power is going to be lethal as soon as refines some of his pass-rushing technique. The athleticism for a 6-foot-5, 320-pound defensive tackle is off the charts.

As far as LSU’s out-of-state targets go, perhaps the best wide receiver in attendance was Hoover (Ala.) High School receiver George Pickens. Pickens, an Auburn commitment, was the most popular target of the week bar none. He has incredible size at about 6-foot-4 and 190 pounds with extremely strong hands and a great ability to run crisp routes. Pickens shines in multiple parts of the field -- in the red zone, as a possession receiver and making big plays. LSU is quietly trying to lure this 4-star prospect to campus, but Auburn is hopeful to hold onto Pickens while Alabama has also entered the race for the in-state target.

quote:
Trey Sanders, a Florida native, entered the week as the nation’s top running back. He’s a thicker running back that moves very well, and like Davis, shined during 7-on-7 play. Sanders possesses a lot of power, but showed this week that he, too, is a three-down back that doesn’t need to leave the field.

Finally, the new quarterback on LSU fans’ minds is none other than Taulia Tagovaulia. Tua’s younger brother won the longest pass competition, but his game is not about arm strength. He’s a smart, accurate passer with the ability to throw on the run. Perhaps more than anything, the Alabama verbal methodically tears apart defenses, then strikes when he sees opportunities open up downfield. He throws with good velocity and even better accuracy, which makes you forget than he is 5-foot-11. Thomas mentioned that LSU is in a strong position to flip Tagovaulia away from the rival Tide. All eyes are on Tagovaulia to see if he visits Baton Rouge this fall.

I really, really want Sopsher, Dean and Sanders. I mean I want them all, but I think those 3 guys are game-changers. The kind of guys that make a good team a championship team. Hope we can land them.

Found a couple nuggets (sour grapes) from a USCw site:
quote:
USC fans were disappointed to hear that the Trojans’ coaching staff were not recruiting the five-star Oaks Christian defensive end Kayvon Thibodeaux last weekend, although it is something we have reported on in the War Room for more than a month now. Thibodeaux stated that USC is not recruiting him, but that statement needs to be put into context. USC remains in contact with Thibodeaux, but it’s clear he does not feel he is being treated like the priority he should be.
Thibodeaux had a very good showing at The Opening Finals last weekend, earning a spot on the 247Sports Opening Dream Team. However, fit wise, Thibodeaux excels as a weakside defensive end in a 4-3 seven-technique, rather than a hybrid outside linebacker. But that’s not the only or even main reason he has not been valued higher by USC. For the past few months, the circle around Thibodeaux has grown and an uneasiness as to who has his ear has settled in. Schools in the South, particularly, have seized this opportunity to make his recruitment more… complicated. However, according to the sources we’ve spoken with, there is pressure on the USC staff to land Thibodeaux just for perception sake.
No matter how you cut it, when a top-rated player from Los Angeles, who grew up a fan of the school and has been on campus numerous times, heads outside the state, it gives college football fans as a whole the perception that USC is a weakened program. That perception, true or untrue, feeds into the negative recruiting narrative of other schools. So, to reiterate, USC is still recruiting Thibodeaux. He still lists USC among his favorite schools. But how hard Thibodeaux is recruited going forward by USC isn’t going to be completely up to the Trojans’ coaching staff. Thibodeaux is going to have to clear the air to some extent and provide a clear line of communication.

quote:
As we’ve reported, Salt Lake City (Utah) four-star defensive tackle Siaki Ika has been a lean toward committing to Alabama for several months. Many still believe he will commit to Alabama at some point, but USC is setting themselves up well for the long game with Ika. Without going into too much detail, Ika’s family has extensive ties to Los Angeles and his sister just moved to San Diego. The family was very complimentary of the Trojans’ coaching staff and the official visit they took last month.
Ika said that he will not enroll early as a December signee, but according to a family source, he is academically in a position to do so. That was one of the main reasons why USC hosted him on his official visit during the summer instead of December. There is potential that Ika decides the last minute to sign and enroll early, which could leave schools scrambling to get visits. Overall, we get the impression Ika and some of his family remain enamored with Alabama, but when it comes to crunch time, USC will be there.

I am with you on Sanders. I like Ford and Robinson but having a guy at Sanders size with his ability is a game changer.
Dean I want because I think he has the most talent by far, but if we got Harris or Diabate instead I would be fine honestly. I think Dean and Lee together might be illegal anyway.
Sospher, mainly cause I am more skeptical of him than most, is who I worry the least about. Especially with Coach Kool here I would take Ika and/or Tuitele and another DE or two and be happy. No doubt I think with the right motivation, Sospher is going to be a beast, but I think the other guys will be great as well.
You have to be impressed with Speigs. He is such a homer he is giving Lia the LSU spitshine ON THE CHANCE he flips. That is dedicated homerism.
