Jameson Williams – There may not be a more talented wide receiver in the country than Williams if we’re talking about raw ability. He’s skinny, so the strength will need to come, but Williams is different — even among an all-star cast — in the burst and athleticism that he shows. He’s springy athletic, with good change of direction and the ability to sink his hips and redirect with explosiveness. Ohio State and Alabama lead the way in this recruitment.

- Alabama commit Demarcco Hellams is a little bit choppy at wide receiver and that’s the position he came to Dallas to compete as but during 1on1s he switched over to safety at one point in what looks like a much more comfortable spot.

- Maurice Massey, Jermaine Burton, Braedin Huffman-Dixon and Giles Jackson all had some good moments that caught the eyes of at least one of our 247Sports staff.

Next Three Standouts

Mekhail Sherman … He may be an underclassman, but the No. 2 outside linebacker in 247Sports Composite’s 2020 class showed he belonged with the elite players in the 2019 class. Sherman was incredibly quick in the cat-and-mouse portion, and his ability to close in the final five yards in the 2-on-1 portion was eye-opening. He also was sharp in drills with his ability to open his hips and change direction, and his desire to compete was tangible. He also was timed in the 40-yard dash at 4.53 seconds. Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Ohio State and Penn State are among the many schools pushing hard for him.
He is teammates with Keiland Robinson.

Shane Lee … Lee is the No. 4 inside linebacker in the 247Sports Composite, and the Alabama commit showed he can be a very good downhill linebacker with the way he closed on the ball carrier in cat-and-mouse. Lee looked quick at the start and he ran well. His body control was improve over the last few months and he has a chance to be a very good player for the Crimson Tide as he adjusts to playing inside linebacker after spending the first two years of his high school career at outside linebacker.

Daxton Hill - Hill is rated the No. 9 player overall in the 247Sports Composite and the No. 1 safety in the country. He has safety size but is one of the fastest players in the country and ran a 4.3-40 at one of the Opening Regionals. At 6-2 and with his ability to run and cover, he looks like a college player right now. He has a freakish combination of size and athleticism and is should be fun watching him roam the secondary with his kind of playmaking skills.

Signature Play
The signature play came from a player who was wearing a white wide receiver jersey. DeMarcco Hellams took reps on both sides of the ball but it was his pick-6 where he made an acrobatic play to jump a hitch route that drew a roar from the crowd and DB group. Hellams is a big, thick athlete who looks like a safety but showed a corner skill set. The Alabama commit is definitely an intriguing prospect with a nice upside on both sides of the ball.

Elias Ricks - Ricks is the only underclassman in the DB group but showed he definitely belongs among the nation's elite. At 6-2, he's a tall corner, very physical and plays with a nice aggressive edge to him. He does a great job breaking on the ball and always shows high level awareness and instinct. He also ran a 4.6-40 earlier in the day and continues to improve as an athlete.

Akeem Dent - Dent is the No. 3 rated corner in the 247Sports Composite and is headed to Florida State. He's a flashy player who plays with some swagger to his game but can back it up. He's an aggressive corner who can sometimes to be a little too grabby but he can definitely run, has quick feet and looks like a playmaker.

How the Elite 11 QBs ranked Sunday at The Opening Finals
quote:
FRISCO, Texas — The quarterbacks at The Opening Finals took to the field Sunday — our second chance to see them this week. But this time, defensive backs joined the fray. In addition to throwing to receivers running routes on air, the 12 signal-callers also took part in wide receiver-defensive back one-on-ones during Sunday’s session. While 7-on-7 on Monday and Tuesday will help us get a better read on the quarterbacks, Sunday’s action still gave us a good look at the arms on display in Texas.

8. TAULIA TAGOVAILOA
The Alabama commit did not have his best showing on Sunday. The Alabaster (Ala.) Thompson standout has a very live arm, was able to hit some underneath throws and timing routes, but his accuracy was off on throws down the field. Tagovailoa typically excels on throws down the field (he won the night's long toss competition), but he never seemed to find the touch Sunday.

Ranking the Elite 11 QBs after Monday's action
FWIW, Bo Nix was #1.
quote:
FRISCO, Texas — Seven-on-seven play began at The Opening Finals on Monday. This is where we start to see separation among the quarterbacks. The 11 signal-callers (Jayden Daniels is out with an injury, so it's not 12) took part in pool play during the morning session before beginning the double elimination tournament in the evening. After watching each quarterback throw and keeping statistics throughout the day, 247Sports ranks the signal callers in order.
FWIW, Bo Nix was #1.

9. TAULIA TAGOVAILOA
It was a rough day for this Alabama commit, who only led scoring drives 25-percent of the time, the second lowest rate. The Alabaster (Ala.) Thompson standout did compete 59 of 89 passes, but most of those tosses were on underneath routes. Tagovailoa did throw 6 touchdowns, but also had four interceptions as well. When Tagovailoa lets it rip, he has as much velocity on the ball as anyone in the camp, but Monday's struggles came with processing the defense and making the quick, accurate decision.
Ouch.

– South Florida is known for the defensive backs it produces and the group the tri-county area sent to Texas made nothing but plays in coverage on Monday. Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas Top100 safety Jordan Battle, West Palm Beach Palm Beach Central Top100 cornerback Akeem Dent, West Palm Beach The Benjamin School Top100 cornerback Kaiir Elam, Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna Prep Top247 safety Keontra Smith and Fort Lauderdale Univeristy School three-star safety Josh Sanguinetti all had interceptions on Saturday. Battle, who picked Ohio State over Miami last week, had two one of which was returned for 40-plus yards. He continues to look like a future playmaker in the secondary at the next level. Dent, who has been committed to Florida State for over a year now, also got his hands on a number of other balls and was credited with two pass deflections. Some members of the 247Sports staff covering the event thought early on that he was in contention for ‘Alpha Dog’ honors. Miami Southridge Top100 cornerback Tyrique Stevenson and Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas four-star cornerback Jaden Davis impressed, as well. The two were lined up in the slot for much of pool play and were able to redirect wide receivers at the line of scrimmage.

– Bradenton IMG Academy Top100 offensive tackle Evan Neal looked the best we have ever seen him during OL vs. DL 1on1s. He worked exclusively at left tackle and won roughly 70 percent of his reps going up against guys like Thousand Oaks (Calif.) Oaks Christian five-star defensive end Kayvon Thibodeaux and Fort Worth (Texas) Nolan Catholic Top247 defensive end Nana Osafo-Mensah which helped him take home ‘Alpha Dog’ honors from the two-hour big man workout. The massive lineman looked noticeably slimier in the waste and told 247Sports’ Barton Simmons while walking off the field that he’s down almost 30 pounds from February after reworking his diet. Miami is battling Alabama, Florida and Florida State for his services.

– Lakeland Top247 tight end Keon Zipperer had the catch of the day during the morning 7on7 session. He went up in the air and tipped a high pass from Monroe (N.C.) Sun Valley Top100 quarterback Sam Howell to himself to come down with a score. The stocky pass catcher had a few drops, but finished the day with . He is considering Miami, Alabama and Florida amongst others. South Dade five-star wide receiver Frank Ladson came on late in the day. He blew past a cornerback for a long gain on a fade and scored the next play on a quick slant. The Clemson commit totaled five catches and reached the end zone twice . Neptune Beach Fletcher Top100 wide receiver Jeremiah Payton also had his moments before an ankle injury forced him to sit out his team's final game of the day. The Miami pledge caught seven passes one of which went for a touchdown.
