LINK ]Which Alabama commits are going to The Opening Finals? (BamaOnLine)
quote:
Not since the 2016 Opening Finals has Alabama been as well-represented at Nike’s annual all-star showcase as it will be later this month in Frisco, Texas. That year, guided by quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, Team Vapor Speed took home the crown with Tagovailoa earning MVP honors. Other Tide commits and eventual UA signees on the roster included five-star running back Najee Harris, five-star receiver Jerry Jeudy, four-star safety Xavier McKinney, four-star linebacker VanDarius Cowan, four-star receiver Tyrell Shavers, and four-star linebacker Markail Benton.
Last summer’s event only featured one Alabama commit at the time of the camp, but several other eventual Tide signees like five-star cornerback Patrick Surtain Jr., four-star center Emil Ekiyor, four-star linebacker Cameron Latu, and four-star cornerback Josh Jobe competed at the camp.
The Opening Finals is really the last big event in terms of the opportunity to evaluate prospects from a recruiting industry standpoint of the summer. It’s even more so the case this year with the Dead Period now in place during the month of July.

What is The Opening Finals you may ask?
“The Opening Finals, presented by Nike Football, is four days of dynamic training, coaching and competition for the country’s most elite high school football players. Every position and every aspect of the game will be highlighted over the course of the three-day program.
"The Opening Finals is undoubtedly the most high profile high school football event in the nation. Last year it drew media coverage from Bleacher Report, ESPN.com, Scout.com, 247sports.com, Rivals.com, NFL Network, USA Today and every other major recruiting website, as well as a live show by NFL Network.”
Here’s a look at which current Alabama commitments are expected to compete at the event which runs from June 30-July 3.

Pierce Quick, 5-star OT, Trussville, AL
![]()
Height/Weight: 6-foot-5, 285 pounds
Player rating: No. 6 OT, No. 29 overall
Committed: 4/22/2017
Here’s what 247Sports’ Barton Simmons had to say about Quick after he competed at the Elite 11 regional in Nashville:
“Quick has really filled out over the last year and looks like a prototypical offensive tackle. He’s very good and dominated when engaged, particularly at guard. The Alabama commit was not as good in space and his pass set is still a work in progress but his win reps were among the most impressive.”
Quick won’t have the opportunity to put on shoulder pads and a helmet and compete in the event due to Alabama’s high school offseason rules. He will be in attendance, though.

Height/Weight: 6-foot-4, 285 pounds
Player rating: No. 5 SDE, No. 56 overall
Committed: 5/18/2018
Here’s what 247Sports’ Brian Dohn had to say about Alfano last month:
“Alfano is one of the elite defensive linemen in the country, but adding to his talent is the ability to play anywhere along the defensive line and also outside linebacker in certain schemes. Alabama pitched the idea of playing as a freshman, and since he is enrolling in January, he will have the chance to go through spring practice and be ready to go for the 2019 opener. Alfano will be the type of defensive lineman opposing coordinators will have to account for every play.”

Kevin Harris, 4-star WDE, Loganville, GA
![]()
Height/Weight: 6-foot-4, 218 pounds
Player rating: No. 5 WDE, No. 82 overall
Committed: 5/1/2018
Here’s what 247Sports’ Steve Wiltfong had to say about Harris last month:
“I think Alabama is landing one of the most athletic edge guys in the country in Kevin Harris. An explosive pass rusher off the edge that I believe has a lot of upside as he continues to get stronger. You see all the things you covet in a camp setting and on the film from a guy that can be a difference maker off the edge.
"In today’s game of tempo offenses and spread offenses, you need a guy that can impact the game and be disruptive. Kevin Harris is a guy that is one of the better bets in the class to be an impact pass rusher. And when you look at him athletically and from a size standpoint those traits translate well to Alabama's Jack linebacker position.
“You put his traits in a program like Alabama’s and you like him even more. Because you feel like they’re going to get every ounce of ability out of him from a strength and conditioning standpoint. He already has that quickness that you can’t teach. In addition, he’s physical, he’s tough, he’s a high motor kid that also impacts the game against the run.”

Shane Lee, 4-star ILB, Baltimore, MD
![]()
Height/Weight: 6-feet, 253 pounds
Player rating: No. 4 ILB, No. 70 overall
Committed: 4/17/2018
Here’s what 247Sports’ Brian Dohn had to say about Lee back in April:
“Lee has a huge upside, and he should be able to get on the field early at Alabama. He likely will have to drop some weight, but that should not be an issue when he gets into the nutrition program. In addition, although he is 253 pounds, he does not look it because he is cut.
"Like was mentioned above, Lee is smart and he has good instincts. If he can recognize plays early, he has the reaction time and acceleration to be a big-time run stopper at inside linebacker for the Crimson Tide.”

Christian Williams, 4* CB, Daphne, AL
![]()
Height/Weight: 6-foot-1, 182 pounds
Player rating: No. 9 cornerback, No. 77 overall
Committed: 4/16/2018
Here’s what 247Sports’ Steve Wiltfong had to say about Williams back in April:
“He brings a physical style of play to the secondary, a terrific open field tackler with change of direction quickness and burst. He’s a thumper in the flats and can be a factor blitzing off the edge.
“Williams is a do everything player on the prep level, he is obviously a factor on defense, makes plays at receiver and blocks and returns on special teams.
"At the corner position, the 6-foot-1, 182-pound Williams plays off coverage well, puts himself in good position and attacks the football like it’s intended for him but he’s at his best in press coverage man-handling receivers into the sideline or re-routing them.
“Williams doesn’t seem to have the elite top-end speed coveted at the position but his size, agility, tone-setter mentality and ball skills made him a highly-sought after recruit.”

Taulia Tagovailoa, 4* QB, Alabaster, AL
![]()
Height/Weight: 5-foot-11, 203 pounds
Rating: #8 pro-style QB, #188 overall
Committed: 4/21/2018
Here’s what 247Sports’ Greg Biggins had to say about Tagovailoa after he earned the invite at the Elite 11 Finals in Los Angeles earlier this month:
“When you’re talking about pure arm talent, not many can rip it like Tagovailoa. He’s another QB who was hurt with drops Sunday and was late on a few reads but had an overall solid workout that should get him to Dallas, Texas for the finals.”
Tagovailoa will be tasked with following his older brother’s near perfect performance in 2016 that saw him ultimately earn the No. 1 dual-threat quarterback spot. The younger Tagovailoa certainly has the tools to succeed.

I had his article mislabeled, it is not VIP, so you can read it if you are interested. It says he has no leaders. Just visited Penn State, may visit Michigan. Looks like he plays his recruitment close to the vest. Honestly, I just work in the back part time, I'm not suppose to be in the front of the store. The owner (TideSaint) and the Manager (TidalSurge) may know more. Wait here I'll go get one of them for you.

Two sources indicate Christian Barmore will enroll at UA for Summer II in July.
Jordan Davis' mom said he still has work to do, but may make it to UA in July. Another source is not as optimistic as his mom.
