Jalen’s dad will be busy shopping for a team.
I seriously won’t be shocked if Jalen does a preemptive transfer. Surely they see it coming.

What Alabama is getting in new QB commit Taulia Tagovailoa (BamaOnLine)

quote:

Alabama has itself a two-quarterback class after  Taulia Tagovailoa joined Paul Tyson on Saturday and committed to the Crimson Tide.

247Sports’ national analysts Steve Wiltfong and Barton Simmons, who have both scouted Tagovailoa, weigh in with their takes on UA’s addition:

Wiltfong: “First and foremost with Taulia, Alabama lands one of the more exciting quarterbacks on film in the 2019 class. It’s not a strong year at quarterback and for Alabama having a huge need at the position, for their state to have two of the nation’s best and for Alabama to land them both, it’s big. Obviously having ties to the school didn’t hurt them but, again, it all came together for Alabama.

“His film’s exciting. I think the thing that stands out the most is his playmaking ability at the quarterback position. His feel in the pocket is tremendous for him to avoid pressure and be able to make plays downfield with one of the stronger arms in America. He’s accurate to all levels of the field. When things are going crazy all around him, he’s cool and calm. He has the traits with the way college football is going and the way Alabama’s offense is going to be really successful in what they want to do.”

Simmons: “Taulia’s got a ton of arm talent. He can spin the football. When you see him in person his throwing ability is very apparent. He’s undersized even more so than Tua and people probably shouldn’t compare him to Tua, he doesn’t quite have that same sort of pop to his arm, but I think when you turn on the film there’s very clear instincts at play and there’s a very good feel for the position. He’s very accurate and he was very productive last year. And in a class when there’s really not a lot of elite quarterback talent, this is a kid that’s one of the safer bets out there.”

At 5-foot-11, 203 pounds, Tagovailoa is rated the No. 6 pro-style quarterback and the No. 204 overall player in the country, per the industry-generated 247Sports Composite.

Last season, his first with Alabaster (Ala.) Thompson, Tagovailoa passed for 3,820 yards and 36 touchdowns to eight interceptions. He also ran for an additional 155 yards and five scores.

Just FYI, Taulia goes by Lia according to his father and his high school coach.

Tagovailoa's father, head coach react to 4-star QB's pledge (BamaOnLine)

quote:

Alabama added its second quarterback to the class and second Tagovailoa to the team Saturday as Taulia Tagovailoa committed to the Crimson Tide.

The younger brother of UA signal caller Tua Tagovailoa, Taulia's recruitment has received its fair share of hype for both his on-field production and his family ties to the Tide program.

The four-star quarterback transferred to Alabaster (Ala.) Thompson last spring from Kapolei (Hawaii) when the Tagovailoa family made the move to Alabama to be closer to Tua.

Nobody knows Tagovailoa better on and off the field than his father, Galu, and his head coach at Thompson, Mark Freeman. Both weighed in with their reactions to Tagovailoa's commitment on Saturday.

"It’s a blessing for both of my boys at the same school," Galu Tagovailoa said. "They both feel it’s best for them. They like being around each other. The plan now is for Lia to focus on his senior season and graduate early so he can enroll early."

Tagovailoa led the Thompson Warriors to the state semifinals in his first season under center. The soon-to-be senior and head coach Mark Freeman will work to make another deep playoff run in 2018.

"Just really blessed to have a guy like Lia," Freeman said. "His family has done an outstanding job raising their family. Taulia is an extremely hard worker and very unselfish. We look for him to have a great year. A true blessing to have his family in Alabaster. Thankful for all our players and coaches that make Thompson special."

Isn’t that a criticism on the defense? Like y’all can’t stop the 3rd team QB.

Not yet, but I'm thinking Amari Kight might pop anytime now. No tip, just a hunch that he'll want to join the festivities with his teammate Taulia.

One more should move us up to #1

2019 Composite Team Rankings

ETA: I added Amari Kight using the 247 Class Calculator feature and that put us 10 points ahead of now #1 OK.
