Oh Lawd, we just picked up a CB for Ishmael Sopsher.
It was from EJ Holland, one of the Texas mods.
ETA: I guess we all missed Surge's post about this CB last night due to talking about Jim's, Korea, per diem and old people.

We also got two CBs for Kevin Harris, one from an Ohio State mod and the other a Clemson homer.
That's like 6 in a row for him.

I'm thinking this A-Day might mirror the 2014 A-Day when the staff got 4 commitments.

Menomonee Falls (Wis.) running back Julius Davis has been committed to Wisconsin for several months, but that has not stopped other programs from contacting him during this spring evaluation period.
"Alabama, Florida State, Michigan State, and Florida Atlantic are talking to me," Davis said.
Some of these schools are angling for a visit.
"Michigan State wants me to visit and Bama just got my number and my coach's number and everything today. I haven't talked a lot to Florida's."

Early challenges helped mold Clay Webb, state's No. 1 recruit
quote:
It was about this time four years ago that the Oxford football coaching staff got an unexpected glimpse of the team's future. The Yellow Jackets were going through spring practice and an eighth-grade offensive lineman named Clay Webb was putting on a show during 1-on-1 drills.
"He could beat about everybody; some of those kids were three years ahead of him," Oxford sixth-year coach Ryan Herring said. "We knew right then that he definitely, definitely could be something special."
Even with that raw talent, Webb's varsity career began sooner than most would have guessed. The future five-star recruit saw his first action as an eighth-grader due to depth issues up front. Webb vividly remembers his first game that season. An injury to the starting left tackle in the season opener forced Webb and another player to rotate and fill the void.
"I was able to kind of see what what I was doing," Webb said.
Webb was a fast learner. He moved into a starting role as a freshman and has dominated since. Webb focused that season on watching the actions of seniors, listening to coaches and asking the right questions.
"We had to throw him in the fire early," Herring said. "You really don't like to do that and a lot of times it's not good for kids to have to play against 18-year-olds when they're in ninth grade. It was tough on him a lot of times because we were asking him to act and play like an 18-year-old when he was still 14. Even though his body ... he looked like he was 21 ... but he was still 14, mentally. It probably wasn't real fun for sometimes, but I think he did about as good as anybody could do at that age."

Cream of the crop
Fast-forward to the present and Webb - now 6-foot-3 and nearly 300 pounds - is the state's top-rated recruit for the Class of 2019. He is ranked the No. 11 prospect in the nation by the 247Sports Composite and counts Alabama and Auburn among his numerous Power Five offers.
Webb has played tackle for Oxford, but is projected as an interior lineman at the next level. He's listed as the No. 1 center in the country by 247Sports. Herring is confident that Webb will make a smooth transition.
"I think he'll go in and probably start as a guard his freshman year," Herring said. "It's hard to go in and play center as a true freshman. Centers have to make calls and do so many things; usually guys get moved there or start their second or third year. I think he'll go in as a guard and move into the center role later.
"I think he can do anything he wants to do. Even though he doesn't quite have the length at tackle that (college coaches) want sometimes, he can still play tackle because his feet are so good."
Webb is the lone returning starter on Oxford's line. There's a possibility that he will see action at center.
"He's been snapping the ball this whole spring," Herring said. "That's not a bad place for us to play him, but I'm afraid people won't put a guy on him and attack the other four lineman. He made end up being center, I don't know."

No time to slow down
Webb has excelled on the camp scene, with his most recent performance garnering the offensive line MVP at the Rivals 3 Stripe event in Atlanta this past weekend. That showing earned him a spot at the Rivals Five-Star Challenge.
"I really enjoyed it," said Webb, who has also earned an invite to the The Opening Finals in June in Frisco, Texas. "I love to compete against other people. It was also rainy and cold, which I like."
Webb also stayed busy wrestling during the football break. He was the Class 6A 285-pound state champion and helped Oxford win the team title at the traditional tournament. That triumph came three weeks after Webb clinched the Yellow Jackets' state duals crown.
"(Wrestling) makes you a better athlete, 100 percent," said Webb, who has cut up to 35 pounds prior to a wrestling season to make weight. He's currently back up to about 295. "It makes you stronger; it increases your willpower and mental ability. After wrestling, you get to football and you're like, 'Well, at least it's not as hard as wrestling,' and you just keep on going, I guess."

Molding a leader
Webb has a quiet disposition. He enjoys reading science fiction (notably Michael Crichton novels) and history. Herring has worked Webb to help him become a more vocal leader.
"He wants me lead the younger guys and try to shape up the team and the O-line," Webb said. "I've never really talked that much; I'm kind of quiet. I don't really like talking; it's kind of like a waste of energy."
Herring feels that Webb has made progress when it comes to opening up.
"Clay is really just now starting to bloom as far as his personality," Herring said. "He's always been kind of a reserved, shy person around most people. I think he's starting to become more fun in the locker room. He's kind of grown into the role of a jokester or prankster, a guy the other players like to be around."

Much to look forward to
If the top of this year's recruiting rankings remain unchanged, Webb will be the first offensive lineman rated the state's No. 1 prospect by 247Sports since Spanish Fort's Reese Dismukes in 2011. Webb finished 10th in Mr. Football voting last year, and with another dominant performance he could make a run at being only the second offensive lineman to win in the 37-year history of the award (Huffman's Andre Smith won in 2005).
"It's definitely an honor," Webb said of being the state's top-rated recruit. "I've been lucky enough and blessed enough to become pretty good at football."
Webb plans to commit and sign in December, then enroll early. He's taking the recruiting process in stride and utilizing the same approach from when he started as a freshman.
"I'm just trying to sit back," he said, "watch and observe."

Kamaar Bell Is Sticking with Alabama
quote:
Alabama’s 2019 recruiting class is off to an excellent start and could soon add another huge commit in 2019 offensive lineman, Kamaar Bell.
Bell announced his offer from Alabama via Twitter on April 8.
Bell found out about his offer from the head honcho himself, Nick Saban.
“I was at coach Propst house and I was told I had to have a conversation with Nick Saban,” Bell said. “He told me I had a great chance at playing at Alabama. I spoke with him on my visit and he told me he offered me.”
The strange thing about Bell’s Alabama offer is that it is his very first offer. Yes, you did read that right. No other Division 1 program in the nation had offered Bell before the University of Alabama. This situation has put Alabama in prime position to land the Georgia native.
Bell is no stranger to Alabama football. As a matter of fact, Alabama football is inside of his blood as he grew up a huge Alabama fan.
“I just grew up learning about great football and Bama is the perfect place,” Bell said.
Alabama fans should be very confident about this guys commitment as he expressed to yours truly that The Crimson Tide is his choice.
“I am sticking with bama and there is no question about it,” Bell said. “I promise you.”
Bell does have to work on his academics a bit before he can make his verbal commitment official.
The 6-feet-3-inches 340-pounder may not have had an offer before Alabama offered, but one can bet he was well on his way to grabbing one as he is massive and definitely knows how to use his size. He completely bullies whoever lines up in front of him and creates gigantic holes for ball carriers.
Alabama's 2019 recruiting class has the opportunity to add some great offensive linemen as they already have a commitment from 5-star, Pierce Quick and are in perfect position to land 5-Star, Clay Webb. This class’ potential is through the roof.

Where will top talent from Atlanta 3 Stripe Camp land?
quote:
AUSTELL, Ga. – The Atlanta Rivals 3 Stripe Camp presented by adidas is in the books and prospects from across the Southeast region competed in the Peach State last weekend. Clay Webb
Webb doesn't typically share much about his recruitment, so you have to follow the visits, know who he communicates with and see what you can find out from talking to those close to him. The main schools in the mix right now appear to be Alabama, Auburn, Georgia and Tennessee. He does not plan to announce his decision until the Early Signing Period in December, but the favorite at this time appears to be the Crimson Tide. Webb has a good relationship with offensive line coach Brent Key and is close to numerous Alabama commits. Nick Saban’s program is in a good spot.
Prediction: Alabama
