TREY SANDERS, 5-STAR RB, BRADENTON (FL) IMG ACADEMY

During his commitment/signing ceremony, Sanders declared that planned to be in New York City next December for the Heisman Trophy ceremony. With Josh Jacobs turning pro, the 5-star back, along with former 5-star Najee Harris, could potentially be a 1-2 punch making life difficult for opposing defensive fronts.

TR says: "Home run hitter as a runner, receiver and return man. Combination of deceivingly-good strength and short space quickness make it extremely difficult on defenders in one-on-one situations. Development off the ball will determine how quickly he impacts the rotation, but easy to envision Sanders with the ball in his hands early on in his UA career."

WILL REICHARD, 3-STAR KICKER, HOOVER (AL)

Reichard is arguably the most likely of anybody to play early with his skillset as a place kicker and even a punter. The Hoover (Ala.) native is already on campus and ready to compete in spring drills with the incumbent specialists.

TR says: "Elite pop, especially as a placekicker. Can also punt if needed. Worked off the ground a good bit on field goals and extra points in high school, so that aspect of the adjustment to the college game won't be entirely new to him."

BYRON YOUNG, 4-STAR DT, LAUREL (MS) WEST JONES

He didn’t sign early, but Alabama is working to make sure they keep him onboard and for good reason. The All-American defensive lineman amassed 126 tackles, 30 tackles for a loss and 17.5 sacks on his senior season, helping West Jones to a Class 5A title-game berth. A big body in the trenches, Young has all sorts of potential to see the field early at the Capstone.

SHANE LEE, 4-STAR ILB, BALTIMORE (MD) ST. FRANCES ACADEMY

You could make the case that every inside linebacker signee could see the field early in the 2019 class (Lee and 4-star ILB Christian Harris). We’ll go with Lee right now considering the position is not as foreign to him at this stage as it is to Harris, who has never played inside linebacker before and won’t have the luxury of getting a semester under his belt to learn schemes and all the intricacies of playing the position under Nick Saban. That’s not to say Harris isn’t going to be a great player eventually, it’s just easier to see Lee contributing earlier.

TR says: "Listed at 6-foot, Lee isn't the tallest inside linebacker, but neither was Shaun Dion Hamilton or Reuben Foster. Comes under control and looks to be a sure tackler. In charge and aware of the responsibilities of those around him, Lee exhibits characteristics typically reserved for a defensive signal caller."

EVAN NEAL, 5-STAR OT, BRADENTON (FL) IMG ACADEMY

Five-star prospects are rated 5-stars for a reason. They’re typically capable of coming in and competing early to play. Neal is already on campus, participating in workouts ahead of spring practice. If he follows the same trajectory as guys like Alex Leatherwood (former 5-star) and Jedrick Wills, he could see the field early at Alabama.

TR says: "Hard not to watch the mammoth offensive tackle prospect and not think of former UA star DJ Fluker. Fluker's biggest challenge early in his career involved achieving a level of stamina that would allow him to sustain a high level of performance over an entire practice. The quicker Neal proves capable of doing that, the quicker he'll factor into the mix."

DARRIAN DALCOURT, 4-STAR OG, BALTIMORE (MD) ST. FRANCES

There are plenty of opportunities for offensive linemen in 2019 with three departures this offseason. Jedrick Wills and Alex Leatherwood are really the only penciled in starters.

TR says: "Tape (junior) shows him at right tackle in high school, but projects as an interior lineman at Alabama. Classic guard/center bodytype with the power to match (played center in 2019)."

TO BE DETERMINED ...

Alabama is still after several prospects that could provide immediate impact in Tuscaloosa. Guys like 4-star insider linebacker target Henry To'oto'o and 4-star defensive tackle Ishmael Sopsher could contribute big minutes early in their career at positions of need.

Edge rushers make the big bucks. You have to be an elite interior dlinemen to get paid in the NFL, if you are productive at the Edge you will make bank. They are making smart business decisions.

lol you asked why players want to play edge, I told you why. Doesn't matter whether its feasible or not, if he wants to play DE he will have to lose the weight to be effective.

Dareus got what at the time the largest non-QB contract and he plays DT. Suh has to be up there as well. And isn't Q Williams going to be a DT in the NFL?

Elite being the key word of my original statement. If you are an elite interior guy you are tremendously valuable, but the NFL values edge rush and will pay guys who are even marginal edge rushers ridiculous money.

Fletcher Cox sayz.........

Fletcher Cox signed a 6 year, $102,600,000 contract with the Philadelphia Eagles, including a $26,000,000 signing bonus, $63,299,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $17,100,000. In 2018, Cox will earn a base salary of $3,310,000 and a restructure bonus of $8,190,000, while carrying a cap hit of $11,348,000 and a dead cap value of $47,679,000.

Nothing like people who can't read.
Also every one of your example are ELITE interior linemen who bring a strong pass rush.
LINK
If you go look at the guaranteed money teams give DT's vs DE's, at the very high end elite interior guys make great money, but you go farther down the list it tails off much faster than defensive end.

Who are these marginal edge rushers you speak of. My NFL team is in need of one dearly.

The problem is Sospher is never going to be under 270 pounds and a Khalil Mack/Von Miller type. The defensive end type he would be doesnt make as much as the elite Dts. J.J. Watt doesnt make more than Marcell Daerus.

Yea but you h ave to be an elite edge rusher to get paid great as well. They arent just handing contracts out.

On that list DT 21 is making what DE 49 is making in Guaranteed money.

I agree but he also doesn't project as a Cox or Donald. Also Dareus is on an awful overpaid contract, so using him as an example is always funny to me.

Sopsher would have to be a top 5 DT for him to make more than being a rush end, as you go farther down the list it is clear teams will pay more for edge rushers. Whether or not we believe he could be a top 50 edge rusher, he probably thinks he can be , being an edge pass rusher is where the money is in the NFL.
