EXCLUSIVE: Top Louisiana RB John Emery Jr. goes in-depth on top 8 (SEC Country - LSU)
4-star RB John Emery has an SEC-heavy top 8.
4-star RB John Emery has an SEC-heavy top 8.
quote:
After a year of mulling over offers and making a spree of unofficial visits, elite Louisiana running back John Emery has trimmed his list down to eight.
Emery, a 4-star prospect from Destrehan (La.) High School right outside of New Orleans, is a top-100 prospect in the 2019 class and the No. 5-ranked tailback in the country. On Friday, he named his top eight schools, and more specifically, the final eight he’ll be considering ahead of a December commitment.
LSU, Auburn, Georgia, Mississippi State, Florida, Tennessee, Southern California and Michigan cracked Emery’s exclusive top group and in no specific order.
“This is really the final eight,” Emery told SEC Country. “There were other schools I had interest in and some schools the vibe wasn’t there for me. These top eight schools — I have a great relationship with the coaches and I could see myself there for the next three or four years. As time passed, more schools will be eliminated. By the end of the summer, I’ll probably have a top three.”
As the 6-foot, 195-pound back braces for a decision by the early signing period, arguably the biggest X-factor will be Emery’s path to a starting role.
Emery indicated that all of the schools included his this top group have established good relationships with him and have made him a priority. The list will be narrowed down based on his chances of earning a starting role and netting significant playing time when he arrives on campus.
“My plan going into college is starting,” Emery explained. “I don’t want to be a No. 2. I want to be No. 1. I also have to think about the long-term and making it to the league. I don’t want my body beat up, so that’s something I need to look at.
“I feel like I should be that No. 1 like Leonard Fournette [at LSU] and the amount of carries he got each game. I don’t want to be Derrius Guice when Fournette was playing. I plan on starting and that’s the goal I have set up. I plan on starting when I go to college and doing big things. I don’t plan on being No. 2 or being a part of a duo. However, I’ll play my part, but my goal is eventually to be No. 1 for sure.”

On LSU
Emery did not attend LSU’s elite junior day, but took in the team’s first spring scrimmage on March 17. Emery spent much of his junior year in and around the facilities and made the majority of home games in the fall. “I can see myself there,” Emery said. “I love LSU. It’s home. Every time I go there, it’s a good time. I can make big moves at LSU.”
On Auburn
Emery attended Auburn’s junior day in March and the Tigers’ coaching staff had a unique opportunity to push their spread offense concepts to the 4-star back, which made a strong impression. “Auburn is ‘RBU,'” Emery said. “Their offense is similar to the one I have in high school. I can see myself at Auburn, a very productive school. When I went out there, they let me know the real …. I can see myself there. Auburn is doing big things.”
On Florida
Emery’s most recent visit was to The Swamp, where he re-connected with coach Dan Mullen and assistant Greg Knox, who recruited the blue-chip running back while they were at Mississippi State. “I’ve always had interest in Florida, and going out there, it boosted it,” Emery said. “Talking to Coach Mullen, the feeling, the energy out there was real. It felt like family out there and Coach Mullen, he was giving me the real. I felt a great vibe.”
On Georgia
Georgia was one of Emery’s early offers. He actually spent part of his childhood in Georgia, so returning back is not out of the question. Emery plans on making his first visit to Athens, Ga., on April 6. “Looking at the past running backs that came there and the success they had,” Emery began. “I like the way they utilize their running backs and the program is great.”
On Tennessee
Emery, of course, is a Tennessee legacy. His father played for the Vols so there are glaring connections to the program. The 4-star running back will likely stop on campus in mid-April. “I could see myself at Tennessee, no doubt,” Emery said. “I’m building a relationship with the new running backs coach.”
On Mississippi State
Emery has yet to make his way to Starkville, Miss., but the new-look Mississippi State staff has arguably been courting Emery the hardest of any SEC school. “They have all been showing love,” Emery said in reference to the schools in his top eight. “Tennessee and Florida, they have definitely shown a lot of love, but Mississippi State, they have definitely been showing the most love.”
Note: Removing Emery from Top Targets list.
ETA: Florida visit ‘boosted’ Gators’ chances with top-100 RB John Emery Jr. ( SEC Country - UF)
ETA: LSU remains strong contender for elite RB John Emery Jr. (SEC Country - LSU)

I love recruiting this time of year, we think we have an idea of who's coming but in 10 months there will be alot of new names and always a surprise or two

well he wouldn't fit at Bama then b/c no one gets 25 carries a game at Bama unless you're on your way to winning the heisman. we give you about 10-18 depending on hot hand and you all stay fresh and put up numbers.

Yep. When Coach Eaux realizes Noah Cain isn't going to LSU, he'll push for Emery. I think Emery most likely ends up at LSU or Auburn. Eaux and Gus don't refrain from giving their #1 RB a lot of carries. Dark horses: Tenn., Florida.

I am glad we didn't make his final and I hope he goes elsewhere. He may have talent, but he will transfer out like Kamara and the others.
And when in the hell did auburn become RBU?

Georgia TE commits to Vols, 'was always sure of Tennessee' (247Sports)
quote:
Jackson Lowe has been high on Tennessee since getting a scholarship offer from the Vols’ new staff in December, and he was blown away by his trip to Knoxville in February for their first junior day of the year. By the time he returned there last weekend, he decided he was sold on them.
The three-star junior tight end from Cartersville (Ga.) High School announced Friday that he has committed to Tennessee, choosing the Vols over Alabama, Florida, Auburn, Penn State and Clemson coming off his visit Saturday for Tennessee’s first spring practice in pads.
The 6-foot-5, 242-pound Lowe gave the Vols their third commitment for the 2019 class and their first from a tight end, addressing a position that has been a priority for new Tennessee coach Jeremy Pruitt’s staff.
Lowe said he informed Pruitt, first-year tight ends coach Brian Niedermeyer and the rest of the Vols’ staff of his decision Saturday while he was on campus, and he revealed the news Friday afternoon with a post on his Twitter account.
“I was always sure of Tennessee,” said Lowe, who’s ranked the No. 455 overall prospect and No. 16 tight end in the 247Sports Composite for the 2019 class. “I really loved it up here the first time I came, and I love every single one of the coaches. They’re all great guys and great coaches. I didn’t think I was going to do it, but it just felt like the right decision. And now that it’s happened, I just feel relieved now."... (read more)

I wondered how they could sustain that, and then I found out they were founded as a tennis academy, which is typically the domain of very wealthy families. Other sports were added as the years went on. I'm fairly certain they must have built up a large endowment that funds the football scholarships.
ETA - It must be one hell of an endowment. I just read that they're doing a $198 million dollar renovation of the sports performance academy.

4-star CB Chester Kimbrough visited Bama on Thursday and got five Crystal Ball predictions today for UF. Maybe he visited the Gators for their scrimmage yesterday.
ETA: Or maybe Kimbrough learned that his Bama offer isn't committable at this time. It's still early, but at this point, it seems pretty likely this could be our 2019 DB class:

I think he commits on or visit and he stays solid.

That would be great! I also think Tuitele might commit when he visits, or else very soon after. Iirc, he'd planned to also visit Ohio St on this trip to the mainland.
