Conover has another year of high school ball. I’ve seen him in person three times and there’s no question he has big time potential, but Tagovailoa showed throughout the national title game that he’s a special, special talent who’s not going anywhere anytime soon. Hurts is 26-2 as a starter for Saban.

This isn’t about being afraid to compete. That’s nonsense. All three of these high school players strike me as competitive. This is simply about not having space to get on the field for possibly three years. But the lure of Alabama, Saban, National Titles, and possibly being the next Tagovailoa may be too hard for them to resist.

Purdy will visit Boise State this weekend, the following Friday head to Central Florida and then finish January on the Alabama campus. UCLA and UCF are scheduled to meet with Purdy in person in the coming days.

Gimme this dude and I'm happy. He's going to be a stud for someone in 3-4 years. Hopefully we offer him a scholarship and he'll sign with us next month.

Brock Purdy had 7,738 yards passing with 99 TDs in his final two years of football at Perry high school. Less than a month ago he had zero scholarship offers from Power 5 programs. Today he has visits lined up to Boise State(next weekend), Central Florida(Jan 19th), Alabama(Jan. 26th). He has schools like Oregon State and LSU kicking the tires too. What is it about the inexact science of college football? One Power 5 recruiter told me, “Brock Purdy, reminds me a lot of Kurt Warner, a lot.” I believe that his recruiting story will go down as a case study on persistence and perseverance…

I saw this still shot. Look at the difference with our tackles. Wommack is using the "Weinstein" technique

Wut? Is this real life? He's a top 3 RB in the country, and maybe #1 heading into next year (without the list in front of me on who's coming back nationally).

Well excuse the hell out of me. I want to see what Named he can do being the main guy. I also think the three back thing does us no favors.

4 Backs is almost one too many..Najee/Robinson/Jacobs/Harris should give you coverage for injury and boy does Bama need that. JMO but both Harris and Jacobs need slim down and enhance their speed. Leave Najee and Robinson as the bigger backs. It sure looks to be that #34 doesn't have the endurance to haul the seed 20-25 times in a game.

We are down to Fitzpatrick and Harrison left to announce and the press conference is at 1 today. Fitzpatrick surely is gone. But what about Harrison?

Ive seen a few mocks have him go in the top 2 rounds. He's a top 5 safety in the draft from most rankings Ive seen.

Alabama junior safety Minkah Fitzpatrick will likely announce his NFL Draft decision Thursday at the Crimson Tide’s press conference for draft eligible underclassmen in Tuscaloosa.

Although the unanimous All-American has yet to make his decision public, he and everyone else know what Fitzpatrick is going to do, he said in an appearance on ESPN’s Golic and Wingo.

“I think it’s pretty obvious which way I’m leaning,” Fitzpatrick said Tuesday. “I’m just talking with my family, my coaches on what to do right now.”

Asked if the way he is leaning is entering the 2018 NFL Draft, Fitzpatrick said:

“Yeah, I would say so. Yes, sir.”

The junior defensive back is considered the No. 1 free safety prospect and No. 6 overall player in the 2018 draft field, according to CBS Sports’ player database. ESPN analyst Mel Kiper Jr. also ranks Fitzpatrick as his No. 1 safety -- regardless of free or strong.

Fitzpatrick registered 60 tackles this season, which was good for fourth place on the Alabama defense, and also contributed eight tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, eight pass breakups and three interceptions. For his Crimson Tide career, the Old Bridge, N.J., native recorded 171 tackles, 16 tackles for loss, nine interceptions (including four pick-sixes) and 4.5 sacks.

The winner of the Jim Thorpe and Chuck Bednarik Awards knows which was he’s leaning, but he said he didn’t reach that point without help from his collegiate coaches’ assistance.

“They’re really involved,” he said. “They get us our grades, they talk to us, make sure that we’re going or staying for the right reasons. They have our best interests on their minds. So, they’re not going to want us to stay for selfish reasons and they’re not going to want us to leave for selfish reasons. They’re looking out for us and they want what’s best for us and our families.”

Fitzpatrick and his draft eligible teammates will make announce their NFL intentions at 1 p.m. CT in the Naylor Stone Media Room in Tuscaloosa. Players must declare for the draft by Jan. 15 but have until Jan. 19 to withdraw their names from consideration.

Recruiting question of the day: How does Tua Tagovailoa’s emergence affect WR targets?

quote:

With the emergence of tua you think some of these receivers we are after take notice?

— Tyler Davenport (@T_Davenport49) January 10, 2018

It’s likely that Alabama’s outlook at the quarterback position has changed for good after the Tide’s national championship win against Georgia on Monday night. It’s clear that the position has improved with Tua Tagovailoa behind center. And that should help the Tide when it comes to recruiting wide receivers.

There are three main receiver targets left on the board for the 2018 cycle: 4-star prospects Jacob Copeland, Justyn Ross and Jaylen Waddle.

Copeland will likely choose from Alabama or Florida; I do not believe the interest in Tennessee for one second. Copeland loves the recruiting process and the attention it brings, so the more schools he can claim an interest in, the better it is for him. He will take an official visit to Tuscaloosa on Jan. 26. He’ll visit Texas A&M the weekend before and then Florida on the final weekend before signing day, which is when he’ll make his decision.

I asked Copeland last week if he would have committed to the Tide had Jeremy Pruitt, his primary recruiter, stayed at Alabama. He said indeed there is a good chance he would’ve ended up in Tuscaloosa if Pruitt didn’t leave. He said the entire staff is in touch with him, though, including Nick Saban. Alabama remains in good shape because Copeland does have a relationship with Saban and Mike Locksley.

The staff actually called Copeland shortly after the game on Monday.

Them folks just called me after that huge win! ?? #RollTide

Ross is down to Alabama, Auburn and Clemson. He’s still giving consideration to Florida, but it seems like it’s too late for the Gators to get in the mix — even though he may visit. Lots of people believe the No. 1 prospect in Alabama will choose Clemson, but he swears that he has no idea where he’s going. I asked Ross if there was ever a time where he had a private leader and he said no. I also asked if there was a time where he felt like he was close to choosing a school or even leaning toward a school and again he said no. He still says Clemson is the school that impressed him the most when he visited.

Here’s what Ross tweeted Monday when Jalen Hurts was in the game.

Bama need to get some offense going …

— Justyn Ross . ???? (@_Jross5) January 9, 2018

And here’s what Ross tweeted after Tagovailoa was doing his thing.

He took notice. He’ll visit Tuscaloosa on Jan. 19 and Auburn on Jan. 26. He has already taken his visit to Clemson.

Waddle will likely choose from Alabama and Texas A&M. He told SEC Country last week where the two programs stood for him right here. Here’s what he tweeted at DeVonta Smith right after he caught the game-winning touchdown.

@Smityyy03 BIG BROOOO????????????

The four question marks in Justyn Ross' second tweet are actually eyeballs.

At times this year Harris looked gassed by the end of the first half. His running style also changed as the game wore on. I think that is the reason Bo came in so early/often for long stretches. Harris is a good fast-start back for an offense that wants to run downhill to begin the game. Problem is, Bo is not a change-up back. He is/was a short-yardage/ second half back. For whatever reason, he just wasn't used that way.

As far as having four running backs on the roster with another one coming in with the current class, it's not too many. Daboll's offense incorporates things the Patriots do under McDaniels, as far as the short passing game goes. Go back and watch Cam Sim's catch in the second half in the flat (before he was blown up and injured). That play is routinely made by a running back in McDaniel's offense. Expect to see more two-back sets in the future (IF Daboll stays). I agree that Jacobs will likely shed some weight when/if he can get over his injuries. My money is on him being used in the slot and flats heavily in the future, as he has demonstrated an ability to catch and run.

Bama needs a shake and bake RB or the passing game. Hell the Pats (yes I know about Brady) but nobody uses the smaller RB's in the passing game better than the Pat's. Maybe some of you good folks can send Daboll some clips of their plays. There is No team in football that makes more of mess of a screen pass than Bama. I mean C'Mon Man.

I still think moving inside is the best place for Womack moving forward. Put him at Guard and slide Jedrick Wills in at RT.

I love Womack’s run blocking but with Tua being the starter next year, maybe Leatherwood needs to play RT since it will be the blind side tackle. Make Wills left tackle. Keep the interior the same with Jonah becoming the center. Womack is the first man up at all 4 guard and tackle positions.

LT- Wills
LG- Pierschbacher
C- Williams
RG- Cotton
RT- Leatherwood
