Me too. I'd be a HORRIBLE salesman.
I interviewed for an insurance sales job up in the Nashville area about 12 years ago. Even during the short interview, I quickly learned it wasn't for me. I felt slimy around some of those people (not that all insurance folks are like that... they aren't). I also quickly realized that "No means No" to me, which is NOT a qualification of a salesman, and that I would have to be a bit dishonest at times, which I'm not willing to do for any amount of $. It's just not for me.
Not to mention the fact that a lot of those "go-getter" types get on my nerves sometimes. Especially early in the morning.

I’d go with your first impression.

I'm the same way. I'm blunt and to the point. If someone says "no" then that's it. I'm not going to badger or beg someone. I'm basically a prick. I can't help it.

You guys keep pulling classes and having on field success you'll see the post count go up.

Thanks man. Props to all the bama posters who basically called this shite when we hired him (and also laughed at Auburn when they passed on him...
TideSaint, whenever you see this, I responded to you on the UGA crootin' thread re: signed players and open spots... it was a copy/paste from another board, but was a pretty good write up.

Always thought I would be too... ended up being much better at it than I expected. BUT... I legitimately am not like most sales people... if you give me a solid no, we're good. I may ask you why, not to change your mind, but to understand what I could have done better to position things... Ultimately, a lost sale is just a learning opportunity.
I'm fortunate in that what I do now, it's easy selling... the product *literally* is like printing money for companies who don't have good marketing/sales practices... And, I don't have a quota as a sales engineer... I get to be the super smart dude in the room without having to care whether you buy or not... just put it in the best light, show you why you'd be stupid not to buy it... and then poof... [profit].
Identify why customer wants your shite, show them why that matters, let them decide... if you're not selling garbage, it's not bad and you never have to be skeezy. I make AEs angry all the time because I won't lie, and I won't bend the truth... I'll shoot it straight, but at the end of the day, my reputation is worth more to me than a commission check. It's served me well... I make a lot of money doing work that I think is pretty easy and the company can't replace me.

Yep. The best way to sell is by never misleading customers. Know your products, competition and customers well. Take your customers' wants, needs and best interests to heart, be on their side and prove it to them, educate them. Paint the pictures in their mind they need to see. Then there's no confrontation, no BS -- it's relaxed, you share a good repoir. I think I could recruit well.

It does also help just a tiny bit that Georgia was LOADED this year with talent. But definitely good for Kirby that he was able to hang on to all of them.

Not exactly. This was actually the down year, relative to 17 and 19... I mean... it's not awful this year, but GA as a state is top 4 every year - we just traditionally had struggled to take the lions share of the top 10. We were just really fortunate to be able to take players 2-6 of the top 10 in the state... 3 of the top 10 were QBs - so we were always likely to only pull one of them, and still have a chance with #9 technically (I think Quay still ends up in Tuscaloosa personally). Significantly different than how that used to go. Then, this staff identified the right guys out of state to help supplement the class. Fields late blooming helped a ton. I think if we'd landed Lawrence, the class would have actually been worse (he doesn't have the same charismatic pull).
ETA: Also, feel free to tell me to go fly a kite. Was not my intent to spark up conversation about UGA recruiting in the Bama thread, but did want to respond to the comment. Some fanbases (see: UF) get a little salty when things get off topic.
To bring it back to Bama, TS shared some great figures on the epic haul in the Southeast in general next year, but specifically in Alabama (and Mississippi where you guys will likely pluck most of the guys you want as well)... it's just filthy. The downside to it is that even if Bama and UGA stack up on the guys we want, there is so much elite talent, that the spillover is likely to still help Auburn, Tennessee, and Clemsux fill up pretty good classes as well.

Not sure I want the post county to go up. Some of our new guys have been insufferable.

So do we get Brown now? That would be great. Thanks.

When start picking up momentum like you guys have you’ll get like that. Actually now that I think about it, you don’t even have to be good to have terrible posters sometimes people just suck.
