What do you consider "not BAMA standards?"
Pretty much a 5star or a high 4star. Unless its a rare 3star

Always take at least 1 QB and 1 RB.
Anything can happen, there's only 1 ball, and depth can change in an instant.

Ok but how do you know if a 4 or 3 starts is a rare find?

I suppose when our staff evaluates a guy like Eddie Jackson or Joshua Jacobs then they just know. But guys like that are vastly underrated

I agree. What I'm saying is, if we sign a RB that is not a 5* or high 4* are you just going to assume he is underrated.

Many think Slade is underrated due to baseball. He was invited to all of the big camps, but they’re during baseball season. He was all in trying to win a ring. They were the best team in the state, and highly ranked nationally. Unfortunately Louisiana has the dumbest rules ever. First round single game. Second and third round best 2 out of 3. Semifinals and finals back to single game. They lost in the finals 4-2, giving up all 4 runs in one inning with 2 errors. They finished the year 38-3.
Anyway, he earned his offer at Bama by going to camp. Worked out for Dabol, Locksley, and Saban against every DB they wanted to see him go against. Went undefeated in one on ones. So you have to kinda trust the coaches when they take a lowly 3 star athlete...

I’m excited about Slade, I just think he’s gonna end up playing slot. He may get some carries here and there but he won’t be a traditional back at Bama, and we need to sign one of those in this class.

Just using him as an example of why you trust the coaches. No one commits to Bama without Saban’s approval. So whoever they get, you just have to trust his judgement.

No you cant assume that but if we sign a 3 star you have to wonder if our staff sees something or is just filling a void

Bama will sign a nice RB in this class. Staff is working on several right now it seems. Don’t be surprised to see a flip from a fellow SEC school.

Exactly, so how are you just going to say we shouldn't take a RB. You don't know if it's an underrated RB or if they're just filling a void.

I get what your saying but I wouldnt want to get a guy thats just there to fill a spot if hes never going to contribute or end up transferring, but thats up to our staff. If they see potential in a 3 star then by all means, but if they are signing one just to sign one, then ill pass

Not to mention I'm pretty sure there are some guys from previous classes that we got strictly for special teams that weren't rated high.
Posted on 10/31/17 at 3:06 pm to seanpendleton10
I think its deeper than just going after the "best" guy. What's best for one team may not be for us. Pretty sure we look at specific traits that I'm sure every four star or five star wouldn't have.

Every team looks for their own guys that fit their needs. Generally however not always, the higher rated a recruit is the better he will be. Not always.......

If the coaches believe he could be a good productive RB that could give the option of not signing another RB if room gets too tight in this class. Not saying Bama would pass on a highly coveted RB tho.

Insider on BOL said Daron Payne has always intended on coming back for his Senior Season. That would be huge

Saban will tell him to leave if he has a high enough grade which he will. Hopefully someone else will step up.
