Have Alabama football recruiting questions? We have the answers. Join us every Wednesday for the SEC Country Alabama recruiting mailbag to discuss Crimson Tide recruiting.
This week, we discuss Alabama’s chances with a recent LSU de-commit, probabilities of the team landing major targets, a positional breakdown of how many the team is planning on signing and more.
Let’s get to your questions.

TS, you know how Urban is about his committed players taking visits.

With Kelvin Joseph de-committing from LSU, does this change anything for Alabama’s chances?
From @michaelmore41
Nothing really changes. Even when Kelvin Joseph was committed to LSU, he was still listening to Alabama’s pitch and was planning on taking an official visit to Tuscaloosa.
He nearly flipped from LSU to Alabama last summer and has always had the Crimson Tide as his No. 2 team throughout that time. So, him de-committing doesn’t mean anything. If he wants to join the Tide’s class, the coaches will welcome him in with open arms.

Probabilities of Saivion Smith, Kelvin Joseph, Emil Ekiyor and Harold Joiner being part of Alabama’s 2018 Class?
From @theproceso
I’m not a fan of doing percentages, so for your probabilities question, we’ll go with not likely, likely, very likely and extremely likely for our sliding scale.
Saivion Smith — extremely likely. Make sure you check out our story on Smith that published Wednesday.
Joseph — likely. Joseph de-committed from LSU on Monday, so it’s still too early to tell what his next move is going to be. He still says LSU is his No. 1 school. Alabama has been in the mix for him for more than a year.
Emil Ekiyor — very likely. The Michigan guard commit took an official visit to Tuscaloosa last weekend, and things couldn’t have gone better for Alabama. I think Ekiyor will flip to Alabama at some point.
Harold Joiner — not likely. He doesn’t have a committable offer, and there still remains some questions on whether he’s a running back at the next level.

In light of recent decommits, focus on DL and DB, and CNS saying we’ll take around 22 commits, what is the ideal # of players taken by position?
From @hackzubbard
The numbers are ALWAYS subject to change until National Signing Day, but as of now, this is the breakdown position by position:
(names in parentheses are committed)
QB: 0 OR 1
RB: 1
WR: 3 (Xavier Williams)
TE: 1
OL: 3 OR 4 (Tommy Brown and Jarrett Bell)
DL: 3 OR 4 (Stephon Wynn)
LB: 2 OR 3 (Quay Walker, Vernon Jackson)
JACK: 2 OR 3 (Jordan Davis, Cameron Latu)
DB: 4 OR 5 (Jalyn Armour-Davis)
K: 0
P: 1 (Skyler Delong)
ATH: 1 (Slade Bolden)
As you can see, the numbers breakdown looks a whole lot like a preseason depth chart, but that’s just the way it is right now. Alabama always makes the numbers work, and this year will be no different. A lot will depend on which top targets want to commit and which ones don’t.

Where do we stand with Justyn Ross and Quay Walker, in light of the fact that they visited Auburn last weekend instead of Bama as planned?
From @rick_schnell
There’s really nothing to worry about with Justyn Ross. A lot of the times, recruits RSVP to multiple games every weekend and it’s just a matter of which one they end up attending. For Ross, this past Saturday, that meant Auburn. Ross has been to two Alabama games this fall. That was his first Auburn game, and Tigers wide receivers coach Kodi Burns watched Ross’ high school game this past Friday. Perhaps Ross’ visit to Auburn was just a way to thank Burns for being there. It remains a three-team race for Ross with Alabama, Auburn and Clemson fighting it out.
Walker deciding to visit Auburn over Alabama was definitely a bit surprising. He was expected to visit Tuscaloosa but opted to visit Auburn instead. He also told 247Sports’ Keith Niebuhr that he’s “65-70 percent committed” to Alabama. Walker hasn’t been in my projected signing class for the past two months. When the next one is released this month, he still won’t be in it. I was told that he’s telling the coaching staff all of the right things behind closed doors, but there is concern that he won’t stick.

What corners will we get in this class? Who are you most confident in us getting?
From @newmannnn15
The cornerbacks I have projected Alabama to sign remain the same from last month: Armour-Davis, Smith, Tyson Campbell, and Nadab Joseph.
Out of that group, I am most confident in Alabama landing Joseph and Smith. Joseph de-committed from LSU in August, and I was surprised he just didn’t flip to the Crimson Tide at that point. Things had been trending toward ‘Bama before he made the decision to reopen his recruitment. With Smith, he’s visited Tuscaloosa twice in the past month. He’s planning on returning to Tuscaloosa next month for the Tide’s game against LSU. He’s looking for a school that offers him the opportunity to play early. Alabama offers that chance with the team’s lack of depth at corner next season.

Looks like we will be taking 5 DBs. As of now…what 5 do you think we land?
From @joe_mcspadden
This isn’t a given. Alabama will only take five defensive backs if that player is a priority. The priorities right now are Campbell, Armour-Davis, Smith, Kelvin Joseph, Josh Jobe, Patrick Surtain Jr. and Kyler McMichael.
If the Crimson Tide were to add a fifth DB, add Kelvin Joseph to the group I listed in the previous question.

Yeah.
I also think it may have something to do with Jones' lack of progression as a passer though.
The kid has an absolute cannon for an arm, but he couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. His accuracy is horrendous.

Ohio St has told Jones they're looking at other QB's. They reached out to the Kentucky commit. Just passing along chatter.

Would Georgia make a run at Jones if he de-committed, or is Kirby all in for Fields?

Then you would be wrong. As a junior, Tagovailoa leads all Alabama HS quarterbacks in yards, ypg, touchdowns, completions, and completion percentage. All this despite playing one less game than roughly half the rated quarterbacks. ETA - He has the highest QBR, as well.
Yep. Not to mention that his team has been slaughtering teams, and he's been sitting out most of the second halves.
He's been otherworldly. Where that guy got that he's not putting up big time numbers is a mystery to me.

I've heard from a while from some of the guys I listen to that Daboll is REALLY intrigued by Jarren Williams' potential. I don't know where he is on the board, but I know that Daboll supposedly likes him a lot.

Williams is accurate and athletic, but his arm strength is average at best.
Having said that I'd take a guy with accuracy over velocity 10 out of 10 times.

Everyone seems really confident on Fields. This just passed through earlier. Didn't know if it was old news here or not. Would like to see anyone choose Bama over Ohio St

Am I the only one who is pumped to likely be getting saivion smith?
Posted on 10/4/17 at 11:35 pm to South Alabama Tide
I'm not to be honest.
Habitual drug users are never a good addition for a program.
He may have natural talent, but if he's a liability or potential bad influence on the young guys I'd rather pass.

I'm just too snakebit by these JuCo who end up having the same learning curve as true freshmen.
Can't bank on them at a place like Alabama...

I guess Myles Mason to State. A run of about 8 crystal ball predictions there.
