Obligatory: He's better than Hurts.

So someone tell me about this Justin Field's recruitment, a quick glance on 247 makes it seem like a two horse race between FSU and UGA.

I'll give it a shot, but Tigerpaw1 could probably detail his recruitment way better than I can.

- Commits to Penn State as a Junior because they were his only major offer.
- Junior film starts to circulate and the big dogs come calling.
- He attends a few camps this past Summer and blows people away with his passing and running skills.
- Decommits from Penn State.
- The Opening rolls around and he puts up the most dominant performance in the camps history.
- Auburn, Florida State, Florida and Georgia emerge as the front-runners for his services.
- He attends the Alabama-Florida State game as a guest of FSU.
- He takes an OV to LSU and the corndogs piss themselves with glee.
- Spends the next two weekends in Athens and dines with Kirby.
- Decides to OV to Alabama this weekend.

Another thing of interest regarding Fields is he plays for Cam Newton's 7 on 7 team and admits he grew up an Auburn fan.

This does not make me optimistic we could land him

I haven't seen any of his stuff yet. I've checked out some Trevor Lawrence even though he's going to Clemson. Gotta check out some Fields.

I'm not lying when I say he looks just like Cam in his highlights. He's built exactly like him and plays the same way.

He's a stud.

There is a 1 percent chance Fields comes to Bama. Not with Hurts and Tua still here.

FSU, Auburn, LSU or Penn St will land him.

Not confident Kirby can pull it off? I'd rather have him there

Georgia is in the same situation, depth wise, and they are the leaders in the clubhouse right now.

Here's what Steve Wiltfong said about Fields tonight:

quote:

One thing Fields dad said to me that stuck out to them about Alabama is that they feel Nick Saban plays the best guy at every position regardless of grade so if Justin came in and was the best guy on day one they trust no matter the circumstance he would get the opportunity to play.

At other schools they feel there is the potential they wouldn't get a fair shake with an entrenched starter.

Is Fields as good as Hurts is?

iirc Fields won the elite 11 this year so he likely has a better arm than Hurts. I doubt many players have the poise Hurts does, but make no mistake that Fields would be a huge pick up.

That is a good attitude to have, but the Alabama QB situation is a lot like UGA's. Both have two guys that could start and likely not make the team miss a beat. I'm shocked he doesn't look elsewhere.

That pretty much sums it up

I think it's 1.) UGA 2.) FSU 3.) AU right now with us being a long ways away from UGA. That Clemson game might have torpedoed our chances. Unless his recruitment lasts the full season (which is possible but I don't think likely) & AU's offense continues to improve and Fromm cements himself as starter, then maybe. But that's a lot of ifs...

I will say he and his dad are very professional about all of this. I don't think he would visit Bama just cuz. They want him to go somewhere where he can be ready for the NFL. Ya'll have a pretty strong pitch for that and I imagine they are listening

I think he ends up at FSU. AU is a terrible decision for a QB, and UGA is loaded at that position so.

Florida State would be my guess at the current moment as well. Francois is draft eligible already, even though he won't go after this season, and the true Freshman they are relying on now isn't winning more than 6 games.

However, don't count out Auburn. Stidham is draft eligible too and Fields could run some sub packages for them next year and start as a true Sophomore there. Gus has shown he can excel with an all world talent like Fields in Cam and Fields grew up an Auburn fan.

If I were him I would go FSU. I think Jimbo as a QB guru is a bit overblown however no doubt that playing for him increases your draft stock. Lot of weapons to play with down there in Tallahassee as well

Not surprisingly, this is Kirby’s mantra as well. He keeps stressing that whoever practices the best the week leading up to the game will start. This combined with his relationships and comfort ability in Athens has us in a good spot with him.
