SIAA - (sorry if already asked) - But what do you all think is the reason that this year's recruiting cycle, why Bama is not in on too many top targets as every year in the past decade?
Do any of yall think this is to be concerning? Or do you expect a mad rush of talent committing late in the recruiting process?

It's a tricky situation, dream scenario is both.
Many think Taulia is becoming a better passer than Tua(or already is) was in HS, and now he's playing better competition.
Tyson is the feel good story, home town guy and relation of a legend. He's got all the tools and prototypical size to be a good pro passer and a fit for the system.

Might need both if Bama doesn't sign a QB this year.

A night after rushing for 195 yards and four touchdowns in Mountain Brook (Ala.)'s 56-24 win over Gulf Shores (Ala.), four-star running back Harold Joiner is visiting Alabama for the Tide's Saturday practice, he announced on Twitter.
I've wanted this kid all along.

Taulia Tagavailoa was 31-42, 329 yds, 2TD, 0 INT against Hapeville, GA (where William Poole III plays) tonight including the game winning 14 play, 80 yard drive at the end for Thompson HS. Observers have raved about him on the message boards.
He would look great in Crimson.

Apparently Paul Bryant Tyson was 15 of 18 - 236 yards for 4 TD's in the first half tonight in their game. I've not been able to tell if he played in the second half or not.
He would look great in Crimson.

A guy on BOL was at the Thompson game last night:
quote:
"Baby Tua" can really spin it and is extremely accurate. I honestly only saw 1 bad throw all night. He did take a couple of bad sacks where he should have thrown it away, but he seems to have the "it" factor. I saw a couple of wow type throws where he zipped it into a tight window. Thompson's defense is Swiss cheese though.

From another dude on BOL:
Hmm. Interdasting.

Rome vs Harrison was a great high school game. Justin fields is real deal, but Rome's d line was incredible. They had an undersized middle linebacker that was all over the field. I've heard Adam Anderson is a silent to bama and he was incredible in game last night. Take the silent with a grain of salt. He has already committed to GA and lsu. May have had 3 sacks and one resulted in a fumble that was returned for td. Griffen kid on defense was monster. I know he isn't the tallest, probably 6 feet, but reminds me of Darius philon.
Hmm. Interdasting.

Mountain Brook got a 56-24 victory over visiting Gulf Shores thanks to solid second-half defensive performance. In a game that saw the teams combine for 602 yards and 49 points in the first half, the Spartans defense only allowed 68 yards of offense in the second half and only gave up two first downs.
Star of the Game: There was no doubt who was the difference maker for Mountain Brook as Harold Joiner opened his senior season with 13 carries for 195 yards and four touchdowns in just over two quarters of play.
Key Sequence: Mountain Brook rolled off four straight touchdowns from the end of the second quarter through the third quarter to break open a 28-21 game.
Stat sheet: Quarterback Rett Files did his best to keep Gulf Shores in the game as he completed 17 of 35 passes for 212 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
By the numbers: 5 -- number of Spartans who found the end zone. ... 39 -- First downs the teams combined for on the night.
Coach Speak: "They had a great game plan and every team I have coached you never know what you have until game time and this team stepped up," said Mountain Brook coach Chris Yeager.
They said it: "We knew we were gonna have to go to the ground and pound to win and we did," said Mountain Brook left tackle Anderson Tomlin.
"I saw a guy cut through and I cut back and tried to beat everyone to the end zone but I saw their guys coming so I dove and made it," Joiner said of his first touchdown of the night.
Next up: Gulf Shores opens up region play at home against Baldwin County and Mountain Brook will go on the road to play Helena.

Jackson-Olin freshman Brandon Ward didn’t play like a freshman in his debut.
Ward completed 10-of-18 passes for 180 yards and three touchdowns, connecting on scoring passes of 26 yards to A.J. Toney, 27 yards to Aven Mitchell and 18 yards to Brian Johnson at Birmingham’s Lawson Field.
“Brandon has a chance to be special,” Jackson-Olin coach Tim Vakakes said. “He’s got a lot of talent.”
Ward’s performance spoiled the Woodlawn debut of new coach George Bates.
“We have to learn how to compete,” Bates said.
Star of the game: Jackson-Olin senior Coynis Miller finished with six tackles, a sack and one tackle for loss on defense, and he scored on a 12-yard run as a wildcat quarterback in the first quarter.
Stat of the night: The two teams combined for 28 turnovers. Woodlawn had 15 penalties for 100 yards and Jackson-Olin had 13 penalties for 95 yards.
Coachspeak: “We didn’t play well, we the kids played hard.” – Vakakes
Still confident: Despite the loss, Bates remained confident in his team. “I will go on record as saying we will make the playoffs this year. We will make it,” he said.
Stat sheet: Jackson-Olin’s Deandre Carlton scored on a 12-yard run. … Woodlawn’s Laquarrius Wilson caught a 15-yard TD pass from Lonnie Ravizee. … Ravizee had 13 carries for 118 yards and completed 12-of-19 passes for 102 yards.
Next week: Jackson-Oline visits Central-Tuscaloosa next week, while Woodlawn plays Carver-Birmingham.

Please forgive Thompson for Friday night’s slow start. After all, the Warriors did their best to rectify first-half mistakes during their 2017 season opener with a fantastic finish – thanks to quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa, quarterback-turned-linebacker Josh Huner and a host of teenagers in red and white.
Thompson earned a 21-20 win against Hapeville Charter (Ga.) in a game which verified an offseason of improvements, especially on offense.
Thompson is learning how to win close games. One season ago, Thompson went 5-5, suffering three of its losses by a total of eight points. This time, The Warriors rallied from a 17-0 deficit in the second quarter.
Thompson is expected to be a new team competing for the Class 7A state football championship, a title currently held by the Hoover Buccaneers, a local rival in a lopsided series. But, if Thompson can continue to play and progress, the Warriors have an opportunity to start their own title tradition.
Hapeville entered Friday’s game ranked No. 2 in Class AA in the Georgia Sports Writers Association state poll. Meanwhile, Thompson entered Friday ranked No. 3 in Alabama's Class 7A preseason state poll, with much of the expected improvements circled around Taulia Tagovailoa, the younger brother of University of Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
"Having him here (in Alabama), it means the world to me," said Taulia, who left Hawaii in the offseason to enroll at Thompson, near his brother's college campus in Tuscaloosa. "I was the rest of my family could be here."
Star of the game: With apologies to Hapeville quarterback Haji-Maleek Williams (23-for-33, 329 yards, two TDs, INT), we’re going with Tagovailoa, who completed 31 of 42 passes for 329 yards and two TDs. His proved to be faster than Hapeville’s defense expected, the way he scrambled to give his receivers time to get open down field and other times, turned the corner while defenses perused, unable to stop him for a loss.
Perfect? No. At times, he held the football too long, trying to make a big play instead of a play (including throwing the football away). But he also showed poise, as well as the ability to recover from miscues. Later, his teammates followed suit.
Play of the Game: With 8:05 left, Tagovailoa, scrambling to the right, threw against his body, finding Shad Byrd in the back of the end zone. With the extra point, Thompson led 21-20 – the game’s final score. The TD pass also marked Thompson’s first lead of the game.
Key sequence: Huner, who earned starts last season at quarterback, intercepted a pass late in the second quarter at the Hapeville 14, leading to a quick Thompson TD. Huner’s defensive play gave Thompson momentum heading into the second half.
Stat sheet: For Thompson, Ahmad Edwards caught 15 passes for 136 yards. His cousin, Mo Edwards, caught five passes for 79 yards and one score. Christopher Hopkins added four catches for 75 yards... Along with his interception, Huner had four solo tackles and three assisted tackles… For Hapeville, Kivante Johnson troubled Thompson’s defense all game, finishing with nine catches for 155 yards, including an 18-yard score in the first quarter. Teammate Andunte Deverreux was just as troublesome, catching six passes for 94 yards… Also, linebacker Caleb Kelly collected two sacks.
By the numbers: .500, Thompson’s winning average for the last two seasons… 6, successful third-down conversions by Thompson (37.5 percent)… 2, successful fourth-down conversions for Thompson (66.7 percent).
Coachspeak: “This is one game. One game won’t define our season… We came down here to face a well-coach Thompson team. I knew coach from Spanish Fort. I’m proud of him, just like he’s proud of me. Go Warriors. We want them to go ahead and do their thing in Alabama, and we’ll do ours in Georgia.” -- Hapeville coach Winston Gordon
"When you're in your first game, and it's their third game, I wasn't worried about my players' effort, but their 'kinks.' We made them early, but we came back, we adjusted a couple of things at halftime and felt like we could just make plays.... Josh Hunen's play, the interception, turned the game around. Every play has a turning point. I think that was it for us."- Thompson coach Mark Freeman
They said it …: “We watched film all week, seeing the slant come back in. I just read the quarterback’s eyes.” – Hunen
“It means a lot, not only for us, but the community. The community has only been strong for us and it’s only right to pay them back.” – Tagovailoa
“We’ve got (at least) 10 steps (games) in the season; this just kicks off our first step. It was good to get a home win.” -- Thompson receiver Mo Edwards
Next week: Thompson (1-0) is off. The Warriors' next game is Sept. 8 vs. Tuscaloosa County. Hapeville (2-1) will host will host Pace Academy (Ga.).
