I know how you feel. I used to watch film of everyone we offered the day we offered.

I really didn't want to run the recruiting thread this year, but I got talked into it. Again.

Yeah Saint does the lord's work. I think it's fair to say that we all appreciate him very much for running the thread, especially after he said that he didn't want to.

We desperately need a couple of high 4 or 5 star corners. Looking at the depth chart, 2018 may be a rough year in the secondary.

Hank South and Demetric Warren CB'd jumbo athlete Vernon Jackson to Alabama.

Burton Burns wants him at RB FWIW.

Here are two more developments to track for Alabama football recruiting.

Jerome Carvin, a three-star offensive lineman from Cordova, Tenn., originally was set to announce on Wednesday, Aug. 16. His final three were going to be Alabama, Mississippi State and Tennessee.

Alabama likes Carvin as a guard, and all three of those schools had coaches to watch his spring game against Hewitt-Trussville at Jacksonville State in May.

"Nothing changed between me and Alabama and they're coming at me about the same," Carvin said.

But later Friday, Carvin then announced that he would delay the commitment and take his five official visits.

This is the world of recruiting these days.

Alabama has two offensive line pledges in Norco, Calif., three-star Jarrett Bell and Santa Ana, Calif., four-star Tommy Brown. Could Carvin top off the class? Maybe, but Alabama is also hard after targets such as four-stars Nick Petit-Frere and William Barnes of Florida, Michigan commit Emil Ekiyor from Indiana and Penei Sewell from Utah.

On the cornerback front, Miami four-star Nadab Joseph decommitted from LSU earlier this week. Joseph took two trips to Alabama this summer and recently said that he will make an official visit to Alabama when the Crimson Tide host LSU. This was before he decommitted.

So it's highly likely that Joseph joins the Alabama class. Alabama also hosted five-star Fort Lauderdale, Fla., cornerbacks Tyson Campbell and Patrick Surtain, among others. This is a position that should heat up soon for Alabama.

Two targets are also set to decide soon. Austin running back Asa Martin will pick between Alabama, Auburn, Clemson and Florida on Aug. 24 and 6-foot-3, 240-pound Texas athlete Vernon Jackson will decide on Aug. 26.

Carvin found out he didn't hold a committable offer.

Just because I'm a glutton for punishment:

quote:

KENNESAW, Ga. — Justin Fields is the nation’s top uncommitted player in the 2018 recruiting class, but the 5-star quarterback didn’t shoot up the national rankings until after his junior year at Harrison High School.

Now the former Penn State commitment is preparing for his senior year, and after one scrimmage it’s clear why Fields is in demand from schools like Georgia, Auburn, Florida State and others across the country.

Fields threw for 2 touchdowns and ran for 2 more, but his most impressive play — a long, weaving touchdown run — was called back because of a penalty. It’s clear why Fields holds over 40 national offers, as his calm, smooth throwing motion and powerful running style is reminiscent of another former 5-star dual-threat quarterback.

It’s only fitting, of course, that Fields quarterbacked Cam Newton’s 7-on-7 team during the summer.

Watch below to see every snap of Fields from Friday night in Kennesaw. Of course, it’s good to remind fans that all this action was done in just one half of play.

Andres Fox closes in on decision

Andres Fox once looked like a guarantee to land in Auburn’s recruiting class. He said on numerous occasions the Tigers were the most likely team to secure his commitment. Fox has contended his closest coaching relationships are with defensive coordinator Kevin Steele and defensive line coach Rodney Garner.

I’ve said for a while, it was only a matter of time before Fox chooses Auburn.

But Fox spoke with SEC Country’s LSU reporter Sam Spiegelman who left the conversation confident enough to flip his Crystal Ball pick from Auburn to LSU. I’m not ready to do so yet. Auburn’s side has confidence with Fox, though it’s been tempered from the original high hopes.

No matter where the defensive end chooses, Fox told SEC Country he’s closing in on a decision.

“I already have a plan of where I want to go, but I’m just giving it a little time and I’m waiting,” Fox told SEC Country. “I’m undecided on the other two, but I’m keeping them just in case and seeing who’s real. It’s all about the fit. Where do I belong at? I was looking at the environment and stuff like that.”

From ellitor on the Auburn board:

quote:

Nugget from Hunter FWIW. He'd put AU getting Ross at 10% with an arrow going down. Says it stings because he's in AU's back yard & he has an insanely high ceiling. Said Shed, Matt Hill, & Seth are all better football players right now though.

I'm assuming Hunter is an Auburn "insider." Perhaps TigerPaw can chime in here?

I agree that Seth Williams may be better than Ross, but there is no way in hell Matthew Hill is.

With 20 days until the Texas high school football season kicks off, Horns247 is taking daily looks at important storylines and players to know this fall.

Our series begins with our personal 2020 Texas recruiting rankings, which are based on game, practice, 7v7, private workout and film evaluations. EJ Holland and Mike Roach combined their rankings and came up with this list.

quote:

2. CB Dwight McGlothern, New Caney (6-1, 161)

Evaluations: 7v7, camp, film

The Skinny: McGlothern already holds a number of big-time offers from programs such as Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Michigan and Ohio State. The lanky cornerback prospect shows advanced coverage technique to go along with smooth athleticism. — Roach

quote:

4. CB RJ Mickens, Southlake Carroll (5-11, 175)

Evaluations: Game, practice, 7v7, camp, private workout, film

The Skinny: Mickens is arguably the most polished prospect on this list. He plays with excellent technique and has advanced instincts for his age. Mickens holds a slew of major offers. The only question with him is how much more can he develop as a player. — Holland

quote:

5. RB Zach Evans, Galena Park North Shore (6-0, 185)

Evaluations: Film

The Skinny: Evans uses his huge build to punish defenders between the tackles. Evans emerged during the spring and added offers from Alabama, LSU, Ohio State, Texas and Texas A&M. Evans will compete with Jase McClellan for the top ranked runner in the state over the course of their high school careers. — Roach
