Alabama landed a high-upside prospect on Friday in Top247 defensive end Cameron Latu.

In fact they landed the most athletic player in the country coming off the edge in the 2018 cycle.

Of all the defensive linemen that tested this year on the Nike Football Rating circuit, the 6-foot-5 236-pound Latu posted the best numbers in his class including a laser-timed 4.8 second 40-yard dash, a 4.3 shuttle and a 36-7 inch vertical leap. His combination of size, speed and length is second to none among his peers.

Latu is the third to commit to Nick Saban and company at the point of attack in the 2018 cycle as he joins Stephon Wynn and Jordan Davis. He chose to play in Tuscaloosa over the likes of USC and in-state Utah.

In my opinion Wynn is as sure a thing as there is in college football recruiting this cycle, particularly in a down year on the defensive line.

With Latu choosing the Crimson Tide, those traits we’ve already talked about give him a chance to develop into one of America’s best on the next level as well.

A two-way player at Salt Lake City (Utah) Olympus, the 6-foot-5, 236-pound Latu shines as a pass rusher where the hard-hitter registered 65 tackles and nine sacks, but also at tight end where he runs well, has soft hands and stretches the field.

There’s no question Latu is raw right now. He’s learning his craft but he’s powerful, has twitch and grit. Especially at a place like Alabama, where Latu also impressed in camp, you assume it’s going to come together.

The 247Sports Composite ranks Latu as the nation's No. 8 weak-side defensive end, but his ceiling could see him make a huge jump as we continue to watch him develop.

There are 3 different Slade Bolden threads on their front page.

ETA: Make that 4.

Some actual words of wisdom (paragraph below) on that board that, of course, is getting an upvote to downvote ratio of 6 to 34.

"Lol he was always going to move up in the rankings after showing out in several camps. Why is bama such a dominance if their recruits are all over rated? The kid is going to bama move on.
LSU will be fine with or without Bolden"

The OP even said this:

quote:

I was on here back in March making declaration loud and clear (search my post history from March or April--one of the two months) where I clearly stated that Bolden was a 4* recruit and would rise in the rankings.

I also clearly mentioned that he was criminally underrated after seeing him play for most of his career while at WM. So, tell me dear fellow, how is it that I was so ahead of the curve?

Why is it that the day he commits to Bama (or a day before: margin of error a day or two) his stock rises exponentially? I know where his true ranking is at and it will continue to rise now.

My beef is NOT with his ranking, but how his ranking rises because of where he commits. It is blatantly obvious and the mongols that work those recruiting sites all but show their hands. I believe beyond question that if he had committed to TCU or LSU his ranking would have stayed the same with a rise and fall of no more than a spot or two.

My other beef is with Bama stroking a kid' ego (*cough*) to get to other recruits they want more down the line (Gleason, Hutchinson, Moore, Boyer, Hunter). West Monroe is stocked with younger talent that will be top notch in the next couple of years. This was a strategic move as recruiting has become a small scale arms race.

LSU being so limited on schollys it makes recruiting on the offense imperative to strike a home-run almost with every scholly offered. They can't afford a misstep as our offensive recruiting, transfers at wide-receiver and offensive line, has made it of most importance to treat each scholly like pure gold. So, our staff thought that other recruits were of more importance.

Alabama does not have such problems and are not anemic on offense for their immediate future. They took a scholly, offered it and if Bolden can end up playing meaningful minutes, then it is a steal. If he doesn't? No big deal they have other players that will fill the spot. But, more importantly they make good with West Monroe and the future players coming up the next few years.

Bama saw an opportunity and took it. Strategic and definitive. Can't stand them. I hope they rot. Freak em.

So he's been calling him underrated for months, yet is now mad that he's being proven right.

wait, why would saban take a kid now in hopes of getting other kids down the road? I've heard every year he was leaving for another job or, more recently, going to retire b/c he has "nothing left to prove". Now those paranoid conspiracy theorist are twisting a previous point to say that he is going to stay so that he can eff with them by recruiting talented kids later? that's a sad bunch.

Deyavie Hammond, a 2019 four-star guard and Alabama commit, tells BamaOnLine he has transferred to IMG Academy (Fla.) from Lakeland (Fla.).

The 6-foot-4, 320-pounder is the third Tide commitment enrolled at IMG joining four-star defensive end Stephon Wynn and 2019 four-star running back Trey Sanders.

Hammond committed to the Crimson Tide back in May after receiving an offer.

The Sunshine State offensive lineman is rated the No. 5 guard and the No. 111 overall player in the country, per the industry-generated 247Sports Composite.

mother of god, at 6'5" 240ish. Bolden and Latu put us up to 31 in the rankings. I sure hope we can get another good corner in this class. With what we are losing next year you would think they would be kicking down our door

How long until Bolden gets that 4th star? Going to be a fun day to mess with LSU fans.

it's gonna happen in the season probably. Being a bama commit is going to get him attention, and his play will do the rest. The guy is electric
