Love me some westerns. Last good one was Open Range or Appaloosa.

I'd say the remake of 3:10 to Yuma deserves consideration too.

2010 remake of True Grit was good as well.

Damn. I forgot True Grit. I saw that in a tiny theatre in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Made it feel more real.

I liked 3:10 to Yuma but wasn't a fan of Russel Crowe in an American western.

Speaking of military movies (or TV shows in this case), have you guys seen "The Pacific"? It's the America vs. Japan version of Band Of Brothers (which was America vs. Germany). I wasn't even aware of it until a couple weeks ago. VERY good. Also done by Hanks and Spielberg like Band of Brothers was. It could be super popular for all I know. But somehow, despite really liking that kind of stuff, I wasn't even aware of it.

Ben Foster was by far the best part of that movie.

Very underrated actor.

Seen it once. Currently reading the companion book again. Hugh Ambrose wrote it. His father wrote the Band of Brothers book.

I watched it years ago when it was released.

It was very good, but I like Band of Brothers more.

Maybe it was due to me being a huge Nazi history buff though.

I've always been fascinated with the European theatre of World War II the most. But I've read a ton of stuff on the pacific theatre. I grew up on my grandfather's stories about Guadalcanal.

And now I'm starting a rewatch of Band of Brothers.

Goddamnit.

I usually watch it every other spring around the time of VE-day. It never gets old.

Yeah. Band of Brothers was excellent. I really enjoyed the Bastogne stuff, as my grandfather was at the Battle of the Bulge (and also Normandy/Omaha Beach and part of the liberation force of Bergen-Belsen). He wouldn't talk about any of that stuff for about 50 years. No telling what all he experienced. My dad was a bomb loader in the Navy aboard the USS Kittyhawk in the Vietnam War. So I've always been fascinated with this stuff.

My grandfather was a Russian cryptolinguist for the Navy from 1952 to 1974.

So, yeah, he was a spy.

As for the Pacific theatre, I think it gets overlooked a lot due to the A Bombs. People don't realize how intense the fighting was over there. It was fricking brutal by all accounts.

When the enemy is always perfectly willing to commit suicide at the drop of a hat, it's always going to be a brutal war.

My grandfather was aboard the USS crescent city. They landed troops on the beachhead under heavy fire from Japanese air forces. They splashed plenty of them according to my grandfather.

Curious what you guys are hearing on Quay Walker? There are some feelings on AU & I believe UGA's side that he's not solid. He's visiting AU today for our picnic/cookout thing

I enjoy learning about all wars, but this is my main interest. My grandfather fought in Europe during WW2 and that's where he met my grandmother. She was born in Germany in 1927 and lived there until she moved to America after the war. I have tons of stories that you don't hear in history books.

My grandpa was an engineer in a b24 liberator, got the silver star. His bomber got the belly torn out by flak over Italy, took out the tail controls. He climbed back there over open sky in a flak storm and patched it up enough for them to crash land back in the desert in Egypt, then stayed with the plane while the others went to get help. He finally started talking about the war in the last 10 years or so before he died.

(11:19 a.m.) | Alabama commit Quay Walker just showed up to the complex wearing full Auburn gear head-to-toe. He got in last night to spend some time with his high school teammate Markaviest “Big Cat” Bryant and others. Walker has always loved Auburn, so he’s a perfect example of someone — with a good season for the Tigers — that I think could make it interesting.

From AU's SECCountry guy. Not gonna get my hopes up just yet but don't usually see Bama commits doing that to AU

Heads up, Tom Loy just put in CB pick for Emory Jones to Bama. He's a ND guy but has a solid CB track record

Jones isn't my #1 pick for QB in this class, but he'd be n interesting project. Lots of athleticism and arm strength. LONNNNGGG way to go to be a top notch QB, though.
