St. Paul's four-star defensive back Jalyn Armour-Davis wasn't kidding when he recently said one of Alabama or Auburn might not make his top group.

The 6-foot-1, 174-pound cornerback released his top six on Tuesday. Auburn was in it, along with USC, Florida, Georgia, LSU and Florida State.

He says he will commit "soon."

Armour-Davis is the state's No. 2 prospect, right behind Justyn Ross, a 6-foot-5 receiver from Central-Phenix City.

Ross recently went to Alabama's Junior Day, but six of seven 247Sports expert predictions have Ross choosing Auburn, where he also recently spent time. (Side note: most were early picks and my pick was the only one that still has Alabama). It bears noting that many thought Ross' teammate Markail Benton was an Auburn lock at this time last year.

State's No. 3 prospect Jack West, a quarterback from Saraland, is committed to Stanford. Paul Bryant receiver Seth Williams, the No. 4 prospect, would have chosen Florida State had he stuck with his original commitment timetable. State's No. 5 prospect Tank Jenkins, an offensive guard from Park Crossing, doesn't have an Alabama offer.

These are all from the 247Sports composite. No. 6 prospect Myles Mason from Pleasant Grove is thought to be an Alabama lean.

Alabama will once again since one of the nation's top classes and maybe even the best class again, but early on, this isn't looking like the year where it cleans up at the top.

Last year, Alabama signed five of the top seven. In 2016, it was four of the top five. It was four of the top six in 2015, but Auburn signed the next three best.

There is still lots of time left and perhaps a 'Bama bump to be awarded. LaBryan Ray was a three-star at this time last year, but no one's disputing that he finished the year as the No. 1 player.

Rankings will re-shuffle. In my opinion, Jackson-Olin's Coynis Miller should be higher. He has a teammate signed with Auburn but grew up an Alabama fan. Mobile Christian's Andres Fox has a growing offer sheet from national powers but is still listed as a three-star. Both of these guys could end up at Alabama. Or Auburn.

The updated Rivals100 was released on Monday with plenty of changes, except at No. 1, where Clemson quarterback commit Trevor Lawrence remained.

On Tuesday, the complete Rivals250 was released and there was a tremendous amount of recruits who moved into the rankings after valuable late-season and offseason evaluations.

Here is a look at the biggest movers up in the latest Rivals250 release.

Im sure it will change after all the camps, offers, crystal balls and such. The offer list and crystal balls usually alter the recruiting analsysts' opinions. Nico Collins was the number 1 WR in the nation, but dropped outside the top 20 WR list because of the understanding Alabama didn't want him.

Alabama sent out an offer to Corona, Calif., four-star quarterback Tanner McKee on Tuesday. It's believed to be the second public offer since Brian Daboll was hired as the Crimson Tide's new offensive coordinator.

The 6-foot-6, 205-pound McKee is not committed, though all three 247Sports crystal ball picks have McKee leaning to Stanford.

McKee is the nation's No. 7 pro-style quarterback and No. 138 overall recruit. He also has offers from the likes of BYU, Virginia Tech, Boise State and Colorado, but not Stanford according to his 247Sports page.

Here is Tanner McKee's film LINK
He moves really well for a tall kid. His receivers are also pretty good. I'm impressed at how they go get the ball.

California QB gets offered by Alabama, says offensive coordinator Brian Daboll seems super cool | SEC Country
quote:

Tanner McKee spoke with assistant director of player personnel Sam Petitto and offensive coordinator Brian Daboll during the recruit’s lunch period at school on Tuesday before speaking with linebackers coach Tosh Lupoi, who then put Nick Saban on the phone.

McKee, a 4-star quarterback from Centennial High School (Corona, Calif.), became the second quarterback to get an offer from Alabama since Daboll took over offensive coordinator duties from Steve Sarkisian. But, it was Saban who extended a scholarship offer.

“He was talking about how great of a school Alabama was and how you can go there to compete for a national championship,” McKee told SEC Country. “He was also telling me how high the graduation rate was this past year. He wants me to come down sometime and check out Alabama.”

The nation’s No. 7 pro-style quarterback hasn’t been to Tuscaloosa before, but he wants to check it out this summer.

While McKee is the second quarterback to earn an offer from the Crimson Tide in the Daboll era, he’s the first to speak with the offensive coordinator before getting an offer. McKee said his first impression of the new Alabama coach was positive.

“He seemed super cool,” McKee said of Daboll. “He was just saying how he just got done with the Patriots and how long he has been coaching for. He pretty much just said he wanted to stay in contact and continue our relationship.”

Daboll has five Super Bowl rings and had an up-close view to arguably the best quarterback in NFL history in Tom Brady. When the offensive coordinator starts building relationships with quarterbacks and top offensive recruits, that experience will be a big selling point.

“I think every kid playing football has the dream of playing in the NFL someday,” McKee said. “It definitely doesn’t hurt having a guy with lots of experience.”

Alabama will need at least one quarterback in the Class of 2018 because the team only has three scholarship signal-callers on the roster in Jalen Hurts, Tua Tagovailoa and Mac Jones. McKee and Dorian Thompson-Robinson, who was the first quarterback offered after Daboll was hired, are the only two uncommitted quarterbacks the Crimson Tide are targeting at this time.

Saban told McKee, who is also strongly considering BYU, Texas, North Carolina, Washington and Stanford that he’s one of Alabama’s biggest priorities now that he has spoken with the recruit.

“He’s a super nice guy,” McKee said of Saban. “He told me that I am one of their top targets, and he would love for me and my family to visit. He likes my size and athleticism.”

Though he was just offered on Tuesday, McKee’s interest in Alabama is strong.

“I think anytime the best program in the country offers you an opportunity, you would have to be interested,” McKee said. “I’m pretty excited.”

The 6-foot-6, 219-pound prospect completed 203 of 280 passes for 3,522 yards with 36 touchdowns and eight interceptions as a junior at Centennial High School. He also received an invite to the Elite 11 Finals in Los Angeles this summer. Crimson Tide quarterback Tua Tagovailoa won the Elite 11 MVP last summer. It’s arguably the top award any high school QB can win.

McKee has no timetable on when he’ll make a commitment. He said he’s just enjoying the process for now.

Random thought of the day. I want to rematch Clemson and run a pick play to Ridley about 20 times and just run the score up. If anyone says anything, they don't have a leg to stand on.

Joseph Scates, a junior four-star wide receiver from Dayton (Ohio) Dunbar, has rescinded his commitment to Michigan State. Scates committed to Michigan State in January but announced on Twitter on Tuesday he's no longer a part of Michigan State's class of 2018.

Speaking of Scates, five CBs have been put in for him since he decommited.

Alex Gleitman of the Ohio State 247 site put one in for Foggy.

Andrew Ellis of Eleven Warriors (another Ohio State site) put one in for Alabama.

Sean Levy of the Virginia Tech 247 site also put one in for Alabama.

Ben van Ooyen of the Ozone.net (yet another Ohio State site) put in one for OSU.

Finally, Andrew Lind of Eleven Warriors put one in for Ohio State as well.

Welcome to SEC Country’s daily Roll Tide-ings , a rundown of everything happening in Alabama Crimson Tide recruiting with Chris Kirschner. Today, we discuss the latest with 4-star wide receiver Joseph Scates and 4-star defensive back Jalyn Armour-Davis.

Is Alabama the favorite to land former Michigan State commit?

If you read Roll Tide-ings on Monday, you would know that 4-star wide receiver Joseph Scates was rethinking his commitment to Michigan State after visiting Alabama this past weekend with his teammate, a Crimson Tide running back target named Tavion Thomas.

On Tuesday, Scates de-committed from Michigan State after committing to the Spartans in January.

He told SEC Country that the reason why he de-committed from Michigan State had nothing to do with adding an offer from his “dream school” this past weekend.

“I’m just opening up my recruiting process back up,” Scates said. “I don’t know why people are saying that I de-committed because of the offer I received from ‘Bama.”

It could be because of his comments to SEC Country and other websites after he visited Tuscaloosa. It was clear Alabama was the school he was favoring, even when he was still committed to Michigan State.

The nation’s No. 24 wide receiver said the Michigan St. staff told him not to de-commit as soon as he got the offer. He claimed the school’s coaches didn’t keep recruiting him since he committed.

“I’m guessing since they got me where they wanted (me) to be — committed — they probably felt as they already got me, so now let’s see who else we can recruit,” Scates said on Monday. “The ‘Bama offer kind of made me want to open up my recruitment because Alabama is definitely one of my top schools now.”

Alabama has one wide receiver committed in the Class of 2018 in 4-star prospect Xavier Williams. The Crimson Tide will likely add one or two more. After signing four wide receivers in the Class of 2017, it’s not a position of need in 2018.

But the 6-foot-3, 175-pound prospect has emerged as a top target for Alabama after his visit to Tuscaloosa this past weekend. Scates says he’s not planning on making a decision soon, but it would not be surprising at all to see him go ahead and commit. After all, look at what he said about meeting Nick Saban this past weekend.

“Meeting Nick Saban was one of the best moments of my life,” Scates said. “With Alabama being my favorite school since I was a baby, words can’t explain how happy I was to get the offer. It’s kind of an unreal feeling. I still can’t wrap my head around it. It’s kind of a dream come true.”

Now that I'm getting excited about landing this kid he will commit to Ohio State in the next 48 hours.

State’s top defensive prospect doesn’t include Alabama in top 6

It wasn’t a surprise that Jalyn Armour-Davis, a 4-star cornerback from St. Paul’s Episcopal High School (Mobile, Ala.), released his top schools list on Tuesday. He told SEC Country a few weeks ago that he was going to narrow down his list of double-digit offers to just a handful.

But which school didn’t make the cut was a surprise.

Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU and Southern California made the cut for Armour-Davis. Alabama is on the outside looking in for the state’s top defensive defensive prospect. How does that happen?

Saban called Armour-Davis on National Signing Day. The Alabama coach called some of the Tide’s top targets in the Class of 2018 on that day to tell them that he hopes that they come the following signing day — he hopes they’re a part of the next recruiting class.

There’s always been some confusion with Alabama and whether he actually had an offer from the Tide. Some scouting sites don’t list him with having one while others do. He told SEC Country a few weeks ago that he, in fact, held an offer from Alabama.

“I got (the offer) reassured with coach (Nick) Saban on signing day,” Armour-Davis said. “He just told me about all of the great things Alabama could do for me on and off the field, and he just wanted to make sure that I knew I had an offer.”

Auburn is the school most associated with Armour-Davis because the Tigers were the first team to offer him a scholarship. He told SEC Country’s Benjamin Wolk a few weeks ago that that is a reason why he loves Auburn, but it’s not the biggest factor why he likes the Tigers.

“I wouldn’t say it’s just because of that,” Armour-Davis said. “I just have a really good connection and comfort level with the school and coaches (at Auburn).”

Armour-Davis was back at Auburn for the team’s spring practice on Tuesday, but he declined interviews with reporters when he left.

The 6-foot, 160-pound prospect plans on making a commitment soon, and it looks like Alabama won’t land him when he does decide.

DE Eyabi Anoma

We pointed out early in the 2016 season that Anoma would be a player to remember, and schools finally took notice as the year progressed. He showed last season that he can dominate a game using his speed and aggressiveness, but his hand technique was still a work in progress. With Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan, Maryland and many others coming after Anoma, it will be good to see where he is when it comes to his overall development.
