So I found this perusing the Georgia recruiting thread on their board:
I asked where he got the information but he isn't logged in right now.
I have seen no mention of it anywhere other than their board.

Also, 2017 Alabama D-Tackle commit Akial Byers who was thought to be going the JUCO route, now says he's qualified and will be at G-Day.

He responded:
quote:
I'm told by Danny West of our Arkansas site that Akial Byers, a 2017 Alabama signee who was headed for the junior college route, will visit Georgia this weekend for G-Day following a Missouri visit last week.
West says he's been told that Byers is now eligible and has restarted his recruitment.

Meaning Byers is eligible for THIS year, or still is considered a 2018 recruit? I'm confused by that.

If Parks don't have a spot, Byers probably won't either.

Heard Jobe is going to be solidifying his commitment soon and shutting his recruitment down.

It sounds like he'd be eligible this year.
Hank South is going to talk to his high school coach tonight to get clarification on his situation.
Remember?, BOL kept Byers as a commitment for the 2018 class and BamaMag didn't.

So BOL talked to someone close to Byers and he made a high enough ACT score in February to qualify.
And like we suspected he doesn't appear to have a spot with us unless he goes the JUCO route (which he doesn't appear to want to do).
Hank said Byers was unwilling to discuss his commitment status with Alabama at this time.
Best of luck to him wherever he ends up.

I took Byers off the commitment list in the OP.

Can he sign an LOI with anyone? I seem to remember seeing an NCAA recruiting calendar at one time that said the window for signing one was only from signing day until about six weeks after and then the window closed again. So would that make him a walk on status or what? I'm not sure if that info is correct but I do distinctly remember there being a specific window of time after signing day that you had to sign an LOI.

I think the window closes at the end of this month, but I could be wrong.

It closes at the end of April. Anyone that hasn't signed a LOI can potentially just show up at their school of choice, if they've been offered, when August arrives. However, didn't Byers signed a LOI with Alabama? Or just with then juco? Not sure how this works.

Byers committed to Mizzou minutes ago

I can't say I blame him for wanting to get his college career started earlier. But sucks to stick by the kid when everyone said he wouldn't qualify, and then he heads elsewhere as soon as he's eligible. Of course he still has to finish out the school year strong, even with the qualifying ACT score.

Josh Jobe has apparently shut down his recruitment like the Miami dude said yesterday:
Oh well. On to the next one.
quote:
Alabama or Michigan should no longer be considered much of a threat to flip Josh Jobe from Miami. At least that's what the Top100 defensive back's latest tweet suggests.
The U.S. Army All-American announced on Wednesday that he's shutting down his recruitment and that he intends to stick by his pledge to the Hurricanes.
Oh well. On to the next one.

Speaking of the "next one," maybe it will be St. Paul's Jalyn Armour-Davis. His cousin is Chadarius Townsend and he plans on visiting Tuscaloosa this summer with his mother.

BOL says even though Andres Fox grew up an Alabama fan it appears, right now, that Auburn has the edge for him.

DE Eyabi Anoma was on campus yesterday. Sneaky bastard.

It looks like we didn't offer Tommy Brown during his visit earlier this week. Damn.

Don't get comfortable with Dameon Pierce as one of our commitments. Here are a few quotes he gave yesterday:
He gone even though he says he is "solid."
quote:
“Overall everything’s still pretty much the same as I went last June in the summer. It was great experience,” Pierce told BamaOnLine of his trip to Tuscaloosa. “Still trying to get my mom onboard with the decision. She had mixed emotions about, mixed feelings. She’s working with me, and I’m working with her on that.”
quote:
“She doesn’t want me too close, but she doesn’t want me too far.”
quote:
“At the time in my recruiting process I was still young in my high school career, and in the recruiting process,” he said. “So you know I wanted to settle the dust so I could focus on my high school career. (I figured) If anything drastic changes, I’ll make that change.”
He gone even though he says he is "solid."

More Pierce quotes from the Florida point of view:
On his lead recruiter:
quote:
“It was a great experience and they treated me well and my mom loved it there and I think I will be back. They showed me the educational aspect of the University of Florida and they told us the things they expect from their players. They have great facilities and think I can fit in very well. I got to see the tail end of practice and thought that was good to see, I liked it."
On his lead recruiter:
quote:
“He is very direct with me and tells me that he wants nothing but the best for me, and thinks UF is the best fit for me. He is a cool guy and when we talk it’s not always about football, it’s more of a personal level and him trying to know me. Other times when it is about football, it’s about how I can fit into what they run. He treats me like a priority and tells me I am one.”
