re: How to Destroy the ACC

Posted by Richt_TheU on 8/6/23 at 7:08 pm
I Think you're making good points.

ESPN pays about $40M to each ACC program (not including ND who isn't football member), about $20M to each Big12 program (FOX pays the other $12M/program), and will be paying somewhere between $70M now, but approaching $100M by 2030 for each SEC program going forward until the deal is up.

If 4 ACC programs went from ACC to SEC, 4 ACC to BIG 10, and another 4 ACC to BIG 12:

ESPN would Pay $120M-$240M for the teams going to SEC, save $160M for teams going to BIG10, save $80M for teams going to BIG12, and then save an additional $80M for the remaining programs who don't get an invite to either 3.

At the end of the day this would be $80-$200M in savings for ESPN. And that's assuming all these programs would be full share.

As we saw with Oregon it's entirely possible, the SEC could try to add like 2 of FSU, UNC, Clemson, and Miami at Full-Shares, then 2 of UVA/VTech/GTech/NCSt as Half-Shares (which would potentially save ESPN money in short-term).

Really for ESPN this can mostly be considered shuffling the deck, and dropping the bottom programs. Hell it's possible ESPN can enter the Big10 deal by providing half the share (and Fox covering the other half for these additions) as a way of "settling" the GOR buyout. They'd be paying the Same or less, for Better games...
He had an offer, but he wasn't even close to a priority. Think he UOVed in June, but never scheduled or showed up for an OV. Think this was entirely a UF v UNC battle, and as long as he had a UF offer thats where he was going.
I only see the SEC adding max 4 teams to be at 20 by 2030. I Can see BIG expanding to 20 by 2026 and maybe 24 by 2030.

My RANKINGS for order conferences would add teams would be:

SEC: ND, UNC, FSU, Clemson, Miami, UVA, VTech, GTech, OKSt, NCSt, Louisville.... But additions are pairs. Like if the SEC gets FSU, Miami may just drop from the board; If they get UVA, they won't go for VTech, etc.

BIG: ND, Miami, FSU, Clemson, UNC, UVA, VTech, Oregon, Washington, Stanford, GTech, Pitt, Cal...

My PREDICTION for Realignment for 2026 season would be:

SEC: UNC and UVA as SEC locks.
BIG: Notre Dame and Miami as BIG locks.

FSU and Clemson being a complete toss up, but with FSU more likely to join the B10 and Clemson more likely to join the SEC. I think Both conferences desire either, and both Schools would love to be in either conference. See it going either way. I do think IF SEC gets FSU, Clemson, UNC, and UVA then they will be 100% done with expansion though. Those would be their 4 actual targets. Like they'd obviously accept ND, but that has about a 1% chance of happening.

Oregon and maybe an additional PAC school could join the BIG by the end of the decade, but they won't be in the realignment by 2026. VTech would be the next team up and fit in either conference after the 4 main ACC schools + ND leave.

Right now I lean towards

SEC: UNC and UVA
BIG: ND, Miami, FSU, and Clemson

and realignment ending until end of decade.

Can he use the cars HGPS and make it to a recruits house.

I feel like theres a funny backstory here and I don't know it.
I don't think he'd get lost.
But he had complete control of Miami DL recruiting, and it pretty much sucked. I mean we got studs, but its like we had no plan, and right now we only have 5 fricking DEs on the roster due to his bad planning. And multiple kids (even from Florida) have said in interviews that we didn't start recruiting them until they started calling us (not good) asking to be recruited.

Don't know but he is very highly regarded as a DL coach. Miami thought enough of him to give him the AHC title and Miamis DL had a huge turn around.

Top 5 DL coach in the nation, if not the best DL coach in the nation (that isn't a HC)

Not a very good recruiter...at least at Miami. So other coaches will need to pick up the slack on that end, but it'd be worth it. Honestly I think he fits the NFL better even though he's always been a college coach

Do yall not have a DL coach right now or something? This seems very weird timing if he's not moving up to the NFL. Like unless something happened between now and NSD, why would he not have left before? Just doesn't make much sense to me.

This is true about Copeland.

Still fricked up by his mom. Like if she was crying or something and didn't want to do it in front of the TV, that would be semi-understandable, but you could clearly see she was mad about the decision. So yeah, pretty fricked up.

TC is either UGA or Bama. Miami is a distant third

This turned out to be true, though I wouldn't say distant.

Its clear now that TC really did want to get out of the state.

Heard today that his dad wanted him to get away just so he could truly live the college life (not for any issues or anything).

UGA and their coach Tucker in particular did a great job at selling TCs dad. And I think the fact that he has I think 2 siblings living in Georgia helped them a lot there, because it made them familiar and not seem so far away.

Regardless he was the bigger loss of the two for Miami. He was the top player on our DB board and had the athleticism to be the next Patrick Peterson

Also Miami missing out on PS2 isn't that big of a deal to me since he was never our priority this recruiting season.

We didn't start really getting on him until about 3 months ago when it became known he wasn't feeling LSU.

Still sucks but whatever.

Tyson Campbell is the dude we were prioritizing.

The Miami homer in this thread still made an arse of himself and should probably get lost

I mean my green and orange tinted prediction was wrong, but all the actual information I have shared was correct and still remains correct.
- I told y'all PS2 did NOT want to play for Orgeron and because of that he wasn't going to LSU. True.
- I told y'all that his mom wanted him to stay home. True
- literally on page 2, I said Bama leads. The reason I predicted Miami is because he was on his OV and we were making up a lot of ground.
- I told y'all as of last night NO staff was informed of the decision and all insiders were completely guessing. True.
- I told y'all absolutely no shady shite or bag game bs would be involved. True.

This was extremely close for Bama, Miami, and LSU. One of the closet ones I've ever seen by a player this highly rated.

Lol no way in hell he was better than Nesta or the DBs.

And he didn't even receive a NLI from Miami

But let me guess, you know more than he does....

I don't "Know" which school PS2/TC are going to pick.

I'm guessing it's Miami due to all the information that I do have. But Miami's 247 mod, while I actually think he does a solid job normally, just doesn't know shite/have ANY inside info on this situation - nor do any 247 mods. NOBODY has anything more than a guess.

LSU fans are guessing PS2 will go there because he has family connections, and he's got an amazing relationship with Raymond, and they've got a great history at producing NFL DBs.

Bama fans are guessing he will go there because they have a major need (losing 5 DBs to the NFL), are always competing for the National Championship, and he's clearly shown interest and his dad even interviewed for the Bama DB job.

Miami fans are guessing he will go there because our CB coach Mike Rumph is essentially a 2nd father figure for him and his dad respects him a great deal, and he was his former HC, his Mom 100% wants him to choose Miami, and he's got better relationships with our players/recruits than any other school.

Miami 247 mod is saying it's lsu we will see

Miami's 247 mod literally knows absolutely nothing about where either of the AH dudes will go.

Neither do any UGA/Bama/LSU insider.

Again, unless they are an immediate family member they don't know.

And as far as PS2 (and TC) are concerned, the Miami staff still has not heard from either about whether they plan to pick Miami or another school.

I'd expect the same is happening for the other schools staffs. It's going to be a surprise to everyone but their immediate families.

I don't think transfers should count against the initial counters either. Imo initial counters should exclusively be guys entering college for the first time (including juco), and underclassman walk-ons given a scholarship.

Grad transfers and 3rd yr walk-ons shouldn't be included

should be interesting.

though I gotta admit it is funny Bama is resorting to starting rumors of Corey Raymond leaving to be tOSU's DC. Actually pretty smart with that POS Schiano leaving to the Patriots.

I just don't see surtain Jr doing that to coach Raymondb though after the relationship he and his family have built with him over 2 year's of recruiting. They would have at least been honest with him as to where they stand, and it seems he is very confident in landing him. He's already drawing up schemes and plays with surtain Jr in the mix.

you realize he has just as good if not a better relationship with Miami's DB coach right? Coach Rumph and his father are very good friends, and Rumph was actually his coach pre-HS and his HC first 2 years of HS before becoming Miamis CB coach and his dad took over at AH. I will say the if he does pick LSU, it probably will be due to Raymond though.

Secondly This thing yall keep saying about "drawing up schemes and plays with Surtain in the mix". I mean what does that even mean/matter? He's not a damn Offensive weapon, he's a fricking CB! you put him on a WR and let him cover them man to man. There, scheme done. That literally doesn't mean anything, but I keep hearing LSU fans saying it as if it has any actual importance - it doesn't. EVERY coach tells the players how they plan to use them. This isn't anything special for Surtain, and its not like Raymond is spending hours and hours figuring out how to best use him. I mean shite he's an elite man cover Cb, its not tough to figure out how to use him, put him on the best WR and let him lock them down.

The other thing LSU fans continuously say is he has family in Louisiana. yes thats true, but his Immediate family is in south florida. and his mom want him to go to Miami, thats just the facts.

No one Knows for sure what he will do, the best we can do is guess. And Imo Miami has more going for it than either Bama or LSU, doesn't make that a guarantee, just the most likely imo.
quote:

How many ACC championships does Miami have? Just wondering.

Since Miami joined the ACC, Clemson has won the ACC 4 times - 3 of which have been the last 3 years. Clemson's been on a great run lately.

But if you wanna play the championship game, whats more important, ACC championships or National Championships? Yeah, I doubt you wanna get in an argument with me there considering we have more than double the amount you have.
quote:

He isn't coming to Miami either...check your own 247 insiders CB.

Andrew Ivins has no clue.

Honestly nobody truly knows whether TC will pick UGA or Miami. It's all guesswork at this point. Everyone will be finding out at the same time wednesday morning

what does Bama have to offer a prospect playing football that he can't get at LSU? Other than money and a charger,

lol at you thinking a player wouldn't get that from LSU if he wanted.

Anyways, You guys do realize that BOTH PS2 and TC are fully aware that WHEREVER they go, they will end up 3 and out players and high draft picks, right. That will not be the REASON they choose one school over another, especially since every school in the mix produces loads of NFL talent. So this debate over Bama vs LSU at producing NFL DBs doesn't really matter. Nor do they give a frick about the depth chart situation, since they know they will immediately EARN heavy PT. That much I can tell you for a fact. Whether the school is LSU, Bama, Miami, UGA, or Clemson for those 2, they aren't concerning themselves over which shool is #1 at producing NFL DBs.

They are purely choosing the school based on where they would like to be the next 3 years of their life. Thats why in EVERY interview, all they've been saying is they're going to choose the school that feels like home. They're going to choose the school they have the best relationship with the coaches/players/recruits at, and that offers the best student life. They aren't going to be bought off. They are just going to choose the school that built the best relationships and did the best job recruiting them.
