So it seems the mods are telling us that "missing out" on ITS is...
Who would have guessed that, hell, one day ago?

Any two of Eddie Smith, Surtain, and Campbell would be stellar.
One of the three is a lock so we're half way there. What's the problem ?

I agree there's hope for optimism. But Diggs is still playing a new position and basically has zero experience. The fact that he got benched in game 1 and never got back into the rotation is concerning. Savion, is also an unknown. Played a little at LSU but not a ton and then JUCO which is like high school level ball. Shy and McKinney, also very little PT. The only guy I feel great about back there is DT14. Dude started both playoff games and looked like a stud. I'd feel a lot better if we landed Surtain and/or Campbell to come in a push these guys for a spot. I think guys like Eddie Smith and Josh Jobe will help us down the road, but don't see them as day 1 starter types like a Fitzpatrick or Surtain level corner.

Nope...USC has always been in the picture regardless of his infatuation with the SEC. SC coaches have always been very confident they'd land him.
Dude, who invited you into this discussion? ITS was a Bama lean after his visit until recently when our insiders learned he was/is basically a back-up plan for our staff. A lot of us don't agree with that decision, but we don't get paid to make these types of decisions. It seems our staff is going for broke on the Surtain/Campbell gamble for better or worse.

uhm, Diggs got benched for a Senior Bowl player who had a really good week down here...we will be alright...plus, I still stand that Diggs goes to safety to be AA

Fitz wasn’t even a base package starter as a freshman if I recall (could be wrong) but was starter in either nickel or dime.
I think what 3714 is saying (and I agree with) is that any true freshman non early enrollee cb will most likely be at best a starter in sub-packages (absent injuries).

Agreed that Diggs may be a lot like Eddie Jackson in that his best position is safety. If he does move back there to play with DT14 though, that just makes our situation at corner that much more dire. Sheffield really screwed himself and us over when he left for OSU a couple of years ago. He'd be set to start this year and we'd be in way better shape there. Him and Aaron Robinson both really wussed out instead of waiting their turn.

He started as our slot corner (nickel) but since we play nickel about 70% of the time now, that slot corner has become a starting position in our defense. Thus, he started for us as a freshman and was lights out. Surtain could have that type of talent and football IQ. Maybe not, but I'd like to find out.

I've said it before..The last thing I'll ever worry about is our recruiting class. I swear I think some of these posts are coming from people that have only been alive for the last decade lol smh. This is a solid class

I invited myself. I like it around here.

He likes Bama, who wouldn't. But SC has always been at the top.

Well, you're about to get yourself uninvited. You're a guest on the ALABAMA board. Remember that, or enjoy your ban.

Wrong. If Bama pushed for his commitment, he'd be signing with us next Wednesday. Luckily for USC, our coaches aren't very high on him.

Possibly. No matter what, these things are always hearsay. We don't know that for sure.

We're very talented back there. Maybe a freshman breaks that lineup. But we'll be fine in any case. The front 7 will be filthy.
Don't sleep on McDonald. My son coaches DL at JCHS where he and Labryan Ray played. He told me McDonald is an underrated steal that plays every DB postion very well.

I like McDonald. He looked great in the spring game last year. My only concern is he looks to be about 5'8 which really limits him to playing the slot and little else. He sure isn't playing safety at his size, and if he were on the outside matched up against 6'4 WR's...that's not ideal either. Personally, I think he ends up backing up Shy at Nickel in 2018.

I'm not going to try to figure it out anymore. Saw a picture where we were visiting Copeland tonight so who knows. The O'Neal kid is coming this weekend. I just hope we can get Langham.

Penei Sewell CBs rolling to Oregon.
Oregon 81% | Bama 12% | UCS 6%

I think you're right about nickel being the right spot for him. That's what my son thought too. Roster on BOL says 5'11" 195 lbs.

My hunch is that Saban likes Copeland as a DB prospect (fallback).
