What state's No. 1 recruit Justyn Ross needs to figure out before National Signing Day decision | al.com
quote:
The state's No. 1 prospect, who took his final visit to Auburn this weekend, will spend the next 10 days figuring things out as he weighs his impending National Signing Day decision between Auburn, Alabama and Clemson.
"(My plans are) just to get everything right, just to sit down with my family," Ross said Sunday after wrapping up his visit to the Plains.
The four-star Central-Phenix City receiver will make his official announcement on ESPN at noon on Feb. 7. Before that time comes, however, he will discuss each of his three finalists with his family to get a better sense of where they collectively believe will be the best fit for him.
The 6-foot-4, 201-pound Ross has brought his family -- including his mother, Charay Franklin, who last summer returned from a tour of duty overseas -- with him on several of his visits to all three finalists, but he implied he has largely kept his thought process to himself.
"I really haven't talked with my family just to see how comfortable they feel with me and everything at each school," Ross said. "That's really the main thing, because I feel comfortable at each school right now. It's just about where they feel I could live for the next three to four years."
Ross said he is particularly familiar with Auburn -- which is about half an hour down the road from his home in Phenix City -- and Alabama, with several familiar faces at both programs. That familiarity, he said, makes his decision-making process a little more difficult.
During his visit to Auburn this weekend, Ross spent ample time with running back signee Asa Martin and receiver signee Shedrick Jackson, both of whom he has grown close to from their time competing at 7-on-7 tournaments.
While both would undoubtedly like to add a talent like Ross to Auburn's class, Ross said neither of them pressured him too much on his decision over the weekend.
"They ain't in my ear that bad," Ross said. "They're going to let me make my own decision. It's cool just knowing they're here."
Four-star Auburn signee Seth Williams, who was also on his official visit to the Plains this weekend, said the two spent plenty of time together this weekend and added that he tried to sway Ross to join Auburn's class.
"We tried to get him over here," Williams said. "I don't know, that's his decision. You can only say so much to get him over here. You do what you can do and hopefully we can get him over here."
Ross took his official visit to Alabama last weekend, where he spent time with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, with whom he also has a close relationship. Ross said seeing what Tagovailoa did in the College Football Playoff final helped Alabama's cause, but insisted that each of his three finalists "have great quarterbacks, so it won't make a difference" with his decision.
Ross is rated as the No. 7 receiver in the nation and the No. 45 player in the Class of 2018, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. As a senior at Central, Ross was an Under Armour All-American and finished the year with 37 receptions for 730 yards and 13 touchdowns while adding 14 punt returns for 383 yards and a pair of scores.
Ross has already had an in-home visit with Alabama coach Nick Saban, while Auburn's Gus Malzahn is expected to make an in-home trip with him on Friday and Clemson's Dabo Swinney will also visit Ross this week. With all his official visits wrapped up and two in-home visits remaining, does Ross believe he is leaning toward a particular school?
"That's something I really need to figure out right now," Ross said.

I disagree. Bryant is not a great QB.

We're struggling but still cranking out pages I think we are all just missing football. Last season, the championship game sucked the air out of all of us. This season I believe the game rejuvenated us.
Basically, we are all addicts
Bruh, i have been trying to figure out what it was that pulled me back over here so heavily recently and you pretty much hit the nail on the head.

Last year was a freaking nut shot.
I'm so thankful to be excited about next season. It's like old times again

I saw.
I was getting right with Jesus and then went to a late lunch with some friends of ours so I haven't been able to do much browsing today.
I'm actually kind of disappointed no one popped, publicly, on their visit this weekend.

Brock Purdy on where things stand:
quote:
“I’m not really sure how that’s going to work out,” Purdy said of the QB situation. “Coach Saban told me this morning that they’re going to take one quarterback, but he said that after today — because they had James Foster in last weekend then Brevin and I this weekend — he’s going to talk to the staff and break down what guy they should go after. He said if that guy takes the opportunity, great, if not, we’ll go to the next guy. They have three offers out right now, but we’re not really sure how they’re going to approach it.”

I seent chatter he's ready, but light not green yet. I've also heard the DB spots will go to whoever commits first.

Vonta Bentley says Alabama is his leader.

I would be a little offended/pissed off if I didn’t have a green light this late in the process and I did at other SEC schools. Hope it all works out

Some guy posted this on BOL twenty minutes ago. Forget what you know about the English language and just go with it:

quote:
I’d put NPF, ITS, Eddie Smith, Justin Ross, Langham, and Waddle as locks at this point. Heard Surtain gave us a silent and should be in the class from guy who’s usually right. I just want Surtain so badly I’m hesitant even if he thinks we are good. Said we have Copeland if we don’t land Waddle. Bobby Brown I know is committed but he says lock. Thinks Temples kicker kicks for us next year. I don’t agree but he thinks we hold onto Walker which would be huge . He says Breton Knight enrolls Monday. I know most know this is what everyone thinks so nothing new. Our ol is stacked i wanted Sewell too wish Nigel wouldn’t tranfer he hasn’t been healthy imo but he thinks he will. Also said it’s fifty fifty Jalen might transfer but I think he stays but maybe not. He’s really accurate in the past but nothing you couldn’t gather from reading Bol imo but I thought he was a little different this year. Also he likes Mathis and thinks he starts next year but says Raekwon will see time inside too with Dwight as well with Dwight playing sparingly. We can’t play the development with Surtain Raymond certainly devolps too but he can’t play for the goat or compete for titles at corndog u and Raymond may not stay there 3 years so that helps. Surtain and Walker are the 2 recruits Im most interested in. He didn’t mention Jackson or whoever the lb commit from a Texas is. I hope we get Sewell too if it opens up a spot should Nigel or someone else transfer. I’m Leary of anyone knowing about teenagers but I’m hoping he’s right.

So a QB will take on one of the remaining spots.
Might as well get James Foster to keep him from LSU. Whoever they take will be gone in 2 years.

Well, we'll know where one of our DB targets stands on the board by the middle of this week. Julius Irvin is announcing on Wednesday.
