Man he a three star for a reason I'm not buying all that. There is only one Baker Mayfield and how many five star bust have we had at LB?

Yeah. He had mono last year and didn't go to any camps because of it. His head coach didn't put his film out to anyone.

Film don't lie. I've watched this kid's half a dozen times and he is better than 90% of the QBs in his class.

Well we have one currently on the roster who is headed in that direction.

My point is that kids their age are really hard to make definitive projections on.

At this stage of their recruitments who would have predicted Mack Wilson would be the Butkus award candidate over Ben Davis in their 3rd year on campus?

Yep, and QB seems to be the hardest to project. RB & WR seem like the easiest to project and contribute early.

Well we lean on our defense no matter who the qb is so I'd rather have Walker.

Maybe too much influence by their soccer moms is what makes some of them them such head cases.

Not related to us, but Myles Mason just flipped from Mississippi State to Arkansas.

Arkansas is making the Birmingham metro a major priority.

I mean, one of the highly ranked QBs in the Class of 2016 just announced he was transferring from Clemson today.

He was ranked #235 overall in his class. The guy who beat him out as their starting QB? He was #420 overall in his.

I agree.

I'm not advocating we take one over the other either way, just playing the Devil's Advocate when it comes to definitive statements.

I guess the question with last years class is who got back counted to 2016 class and the 2015 class. You can still back count with EEs. So in 2015 we signed 24 leaving 1 spot open. 2016 we signed 23 but if we back counted 1 of those we only assigned 22 to the 2016 class. In 2017 we signed 28 counting Brannon and Bulovas who both blue shirted and did not count for the 2017 class. So 26 but if I am right 3 of those EEs can back count to 2016 putting the 2017 class at 23. Which would allow us to take 2 of our current EEs and assigned them back to the 2016 class. Meaning 12 of the current signed along with Parks, Bulovas, and Brannon would currently put us at 15 against the 2018 class. Walker, Jackson, and Brown would bring that number to 18 commits leaving us only able to bring in 7 more.

People automatically assume 25-3 from last year puts us at 22. But every year we here these hard numbers and back counting and other variables seem to get left out.

That would be the ideal scenario for us.

I hope you're right.

Uhh I'm all confused. I'll say this though. I doubt Saban wants another kid crying at the end of signing day so we better hope Jackson had a terrible time because I don't see him in anyone's projections.

I think your numbers may be off. I dont think we had/have any backcount spots left to use. Because we had plenty of EEs to backcount into them. If we had room to back count more as you say, then why didnt we do it instead of blueshirting Brannon & Bullovas and making Parks take a greyshirt? The two blueshirts got scholarships in August under the 85 cap. You might be right, but what we did with Brannon, Bullovas & Parks tells me that we did not and do not have any backcounting room.

Saban himself has said we only have 8 spots left in the 2018 class. Maybe Saban is being sneaky with what he said. But, his statements and the actions he took with Bullovas, Brannon and Parks tell me we can only sign 8 more in 2018.

I refuse to even try and understand the numbers. frick it.

I do wish they would allow you to have 100 players on scholarships. That not only benefits the team but also it allows schools to take more chances on "projects". Plus, look how many more kids would be getting a free education.

Kind of crazy they changed the rules to hurt Bama(to make things more even) and Sabah still does work.

I hope we didn't screw ourselves taking these two.

I'm not giving up on them, but they better produce.

Saban said at one point last year, Bama could only sign 22 because of the 2 blueshirts and 1 greyshirt.

Me too. With 15 games a season now, 100 players seems about right.

They set the limit to stop schools like Alabama from getting all the top guys. It obviously isn't working, so let more kids get a free education.
