Last year’s Under Armour roster was loaded, much deeper than this year, but there are some guys at certain positions that could hold their own. Here’s a look at a few.

* MARVIN WILSON (Uncommitted) – The defensive tackle group last year was ridiculous with the 1-2 punch of Rashan Gary and Ed Oliver, but Wilson would fit right in. His ceiling is not as high as Gary’s or Oliver’s, but he’s in the discussion and has been awesome the first couple of days.

* ALEX LEATHERWOOD (Alabama commit) – Leatherwood has been the best offensive tackle through the first two days here (and there have been plenty of good ones) and could certainly hold his own with Ole Miss freshman standout Gregory Little from last year.

* CESAR RUIZ (Michigan commit) – I liked Baveon Johnson a ton last year as the elite center at the game and Ruiz is even better. Ruiz could be one of the best centers I’ve seen in quite a few years.

* JOSH KAINDOH (Florida State commit) – The defensive end group last year was impressive with Marlon Davidson, Antonneous Clayton, McTelvin Agim and others, but Kaindoh is a better pure pass rusher than any of them at least through two practices.

* LAMONT WADE (Penn State commit) – Levonta Taylor was the No. 1 cornerback in the country last season. Wade is better. He’s thicker and brings even more energy to the game.

Okay, I’ve mentioned Leatherwood and Ruiz and how elite they have been through the first two days, but they haven’t been alone. I’ve been impressed with Georgia commitment Isaiah Wilson, Alabama commitment Jedrick Wills, LSU commitment Austin Deculus (especially when working inside and at second level), Auburn commitment Calvin Ashley (working inside), Tennessee commitment Trey Smith (inside as well), Miami commitment Navaughn Donaldson, Penn State commitment C.J. Thorpe and Texas Tech commitment Jack Anderson. The offensive line is the deepest and most impressive position this week by far.

LaBryan Ray

Ray has been moved inside to defensive tackle for the majority of his snaps but that hasn't stopped the defensive end by trade from flashing anyway. He has the quickness to beat bigger blockers but turned heads Thursday moreso because of his hands. His hand-fighting ability gets blockers off of his frame and he can couple it with power soon after, enabling for enough space to get to the quarterback with ease at times. Looking at making a late decision, Ray has a final group of Alabama, Tennessee, Florida, Mississippi and Mississippi State.

Jerry Jeudy

Jeudy had a lot of passes thrown his way Thursday and the Alabama commit didn't disappoint.  He had defensive backs on their heels, he put one on the ground with his moves and he caught the ball very well.  He high-pointed the ball well and he created great space giving the quarterbacks big windows to throw to.  He is super-quick in and out of breaks and he really accelerates well.  There may not be one part of his game that is elite, but he should be extremely productive in T-Town.

Alex Leatherwood

Leatherwood is just a few days from moving to Tuscaloosa (Ala.) to start his career as a member of the Alabama Crimson Tide, but before he does that, he wants to continue to show he is one of the best in 2017. He is consistently the top offensive lineman on a team full of great ones. He is ultra-competitive start, he is at his best. He can hold the edge and he can set the edge. He won almost every rep he took. He moved inside just to match-up against five-star defensive tackle Marvin Wilson and they split.

Dylan Moses

Moses has really settled in nicely at inside linebacker. The Alabama commit was everywhere Thursday.  If he wasn't coming down hill to make play, he was dropping in coverage to break passes up or to pick them off.  He has shown good instincts through two practices and he has played at a very high level.

Allen updates commitment status
Andrew Bone | TideSports.com

Chris Allen, four-star linebacker from Southern Lab High School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, has received a lot of attention since his commitment to the University of Alabama.

"It's been crazy," Allen said since his commitment. "It's been a lot of publicity. A lot of people on Twitter loving me and some not so much. I am still happy I committed. It's been good.

"You know some people are saying I betrayed the state of Louisiana. A lot of people don't like that I am going to Alabama, but I don't really care. It's my decision. I did what I think is best for me and my family. I feel great about my decision."

The chatter of a possible flip from Alabama to LSU have started to trickle back to Tuscaloosa. Allen is comfortable with his decision, but a possible visit in January to the home-state school always puts fans and coaches on edge.

"I've been talking to Coach Tosh (Lupoi) a little bit," he said. "He is asking if I am still ready to be a linebacker there and stuff like that. There was a rumor going around that I was going to flip to LSU. He asked me about that.

"I'm really not sure yet if I am going to visit LSU. I'm just not sure. There is still a lot of pressure on me to stay in-state. My commitment to Alabama is 100-percent. I don't see myself decommitting so I would definitely say my commitment is 100-percent."

Alabama has a pair of Baton Rouge natives committed in the 2017 class in Allen and Dylan Moses. The two played together when they were young, and the opportunity to do it again in Tuscaloosa.

"I am definitely looking forward to playing on the same field as him again," Allen said. "We are both going to Bama. I am excited about it. We were on the same little league team. It was fun then. It's going to be just like it was in little league again, but on a much bigger scale."

Allen gave his assessment of Alabama's semi-final game on Saturday against Washington.

"Without being too disrespectful, I think Bama will prove why they are the No.1 team in the country," he said. "I think they will have a pretty good game against them and come out with a win."

Allen suffered a pulled groin muscle at practice on Thursday. He will try to practice again on Friday, but may sit out the rest of the week. He mentioned four-star safety Todd Harris as a recruiting target for him this week for Alabama.

Sonny thinks if Mathis picked now, it would be Alabama. Said he almost committed here a couple of weeks ago. He thinks that after OVs, LSU has an excellent shot at landing him. He also said that there are rumors that Alabama could go on an absolute tear to close out this class, and there might not be room for Mathis.

Solomon has already OV'd to Michigan and Alabama and will OV to USC, Auburn, and UF. He says that UGA is still in it even though they will not get an OV.

Sounds like it may come down to the Alabama vs Auburn bagmen. Don't forget to make your donation to the bagman fund.
