ETA: And one of their columnists tweeted out today that things aren't going very well for them recruiting-wise right now.

At one tine he and Jeudy were expected to be committing to Bama at the same time.
But as you know smith backed off.
I also noticed Saban/mario just visited both Wright & Judey.

But did not hear/read anything on how the Juedy visit went as for solidifying his commitment.
He is a early enroll kid but Fla,Fsu,Miami will be looking turn up the last effort heat with his reporting day gets closer.
Note: Mario flipping Wright form FSU was Huge .

BOL Recruiting Nuggets recap:

- A source close to Deangelo Gibbs says Alabama appears to be the favorite heading into the dead period. Gibbs is an early enrollee too.

- Sources close to Najee Harris still maintain he is solid to Alabama despite the upcoming visit to Michigan this weekend. He supposedly has plans to move to Tuscaloosa right after the Army AA Game next month.

- Don't expect Jhavonte Dean to be an Alabama commitment for much longer. Sounds like we are parting mutually.

- Alabama did not make their scheduled in-home visit with Shaun Wade on Monday because Ohio State saw him that day. Apparently the staff will visit him tomorrow and attend his state championship game. He remains a top priority.

- Dylan Moses is not taking an OV to USCw this weekend. He's set on Alabama.

- Isaiah Buggs is taking his first visit to Alabama this weekend on an OV.

- Javon Kinlaw is taking an OV to Alabama next month after his two semester restriction is lifted.

- The plan is to still take 4 wide receivers in this class. Henry Ruggs, Devonta Smith and Nico Collins are the three candidates to fill the remaining two spots, with Ruggs and Smith the likely pair.

- They made a statement that Ruggs may be the best player in the state of Alabama when it's all said and done. I don't know if that means rankings wise.

- Michigan is trending for Isaiah Wilson.

Steve Wiltfong on Najee Harris' visit to Michigan:

quote:

There isn't a more high-profile recruit on campus than five-star running back Najee Harris, the nation's No. 1 recruit per the industry-generated 247Sports Composite. The long-time Alabama commit is slated to enroll early in Tuscaloosa and I just can't see him flipping on the Crimson Tide. Harbaugh and company have certainly done all they can to try and lure the Antioch (Calif.) High standout away from Nick Saban, hosting a satellite camp at his school, getting him to campus this summer and obviously getting him back this weekend. No question Harris has a strong relationship with Harbaugh and the Wolverines have raised intrigue. We'll see what happens this weekend.

Alabama five-star wide receiver commit Jerry Jeudy (Deerfield Beach, Fla.) is officially visiting Miami this weekend, per multiple contacts.

Jeudy arrived on campus this morning.

Miami, along with Florida, was a runner-up when Jeudy originally verbally committed to the Crimson Tide in July.

Miami never stopped recruiting him. They had three coaches at his playoff game last Friday.

Jeudy, an early enrollee, is ranked as the nation's No. 4 wide receiver and the No. 6 prospect in Florida in the 2017 class by 247SportsComposite.

TIFWIW. Seriously, take this extremely for what it's worth because the source of this information is an extremely butthurt Ohio State friend of mine. He hates all things Alabama. His penis envy is astounding when it comes to Alabama.

However, he texted me this morning about Jeudy visiting Miami and here are his exact words:

quote:

Jerry Jeudy is on Miami's campus. Saban told him not to but he snuck onto campus.

His parents want him to stay in Miami.

He says he was told this by a friend of his who is a Miami "insider."

Hank is saying to keep an eye on Sunday for Deangelo Gibbs.

He's not predicting a commitment (yet), but did say he thinks some form of clarity will be made regarding finalists, favorites, etc.

He likes Alabama's chances.

I'm not sure about that. I'm fuzzy on it, but didn't Ridley and Jeudy grow up together? I know Jeudy wants to be at Bama with Calvin for a year. He's stated as much.

I also don't think Saban has worried much about him. Wasn't saban in Miami seeing him just this week?

I could see his parents wanting him to stay close to home especially after his little sister passed away a couple weeks ago, but I don't know if that's the case here.

You can tell we are about to hit the dead period and the heat is going to be on for early entries.
Mario felt we had a good shot with Richards last year and we put on a strong finish.
This kids been committed for a while now and being a early entry kid this visit should have sealed it.

I hope bartow's right about the phone call.
You can understand Saban not wanting him making the visit especially approaching the dead period.
Our in home was to dot the I and cross the T's.

These OSU,MIAMI,UGA battles down the wire are gonna be photo finishes

Key visitors heading to Alabama this weekend

With this being the final weekend before the dead period goes into effect Sunday night at midnight, Alabama will host several key official visitors.

The biggest name headed to Tuscaloosa this weekend is 5-star defensive end Joshua Kaindoh from IMG Academy. Kaindoh de-committed from Maryland on Nov. 28 and since then, he’s taken an official visit to Georgia.

Before Kaindoh backed off his commitment to the Terrapins, the Tide coaching staff had been having more communication with him, but that shouldn’t be seen as the reason why he decided Maryland wasn’t the school for him. As it stands right now, Florida State and Penn State are viewed as the favorites to land his commitment. But with a visit to Alabama, things can and likely will change.

Another intriguing name on the guest list is junior college defensive lineman Chauncey Rivers. Alabama offered Rivers, a 4-star defensive end from East Mississippi Community College, on Monday. The name may sound familiar to SEC fans because he signed with Georgia but was ultimately dismissed by Kirby Smart after his third marijuana arrest. Alabama would not have offered him if it didn’t feel like Rivers has gotten his act together while in junior college. Alabama needs several more defensive linemen in the Class of 2017, so signing the nation’s No. 2 junior college defensive end would be a home run.

Isaiah Buggs, a 4-star junior college defensive end from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, is finally expected to visit Tuscaloosa. Buggs has been a major target for Alabama, but he’s never been a prospect for us to seriously discuss because he hasn’t visited. If he does make it to Alabama, this could be very interesting. Nick Saban visited Buggs earlier this week, and the Tide will make sure he’s treated like a priority this weekend.

Tide commitments Tyrell Shavers, a 4-star wide receiver from Lewisville, Texas; 3-star defensive back Kyriq McDonald; and 3-star kicker Brandon Ruiz also will be on official visits. All three commitments are 100 percent solid with Alabama.

Saban visits DeAngelo Gibbs

Nick Saban showed up to Grayson (Loganville, Ga.) High School in a helicopter to woo 4-star safety DeAngelo Gibbs, one of Alabama’s top targets regardless of position.

“I didn’t know what to expect about that helicopter,” Gibbs told our Georgia reporter Jeff Sentell. ‘Maybe a big red helicopter with an ‘A’ on it?”

Gibbs’ own interest in Alabama certainly has surged over the past several months, so much so that I believe this is now just a Georgia and Alabama battle. Gibbs is expected to take an official visit to Georgia this weekend but it’s possible he doesn’t make it because Grayson is playing in the state championship game Saturday at 8 p.m. ET.

It’s possible he shows up in Athens on Sunday, but he doesn’t know what’s going to happen. This weekend is the last time he’ll be able to take an official visit because he’s an early enrollee, and the dead period goes into effect Sunday at midnight.

Even if he doesn’t make it to Georgia, Gibbs has been to Athens over 15 times throughout his recruitment. While he certainly has visited Georgia more than Alabama, that doesn’t mean he’ll be a Bulldog. Derrick Brown, a 5-star defensive tackle in 2016, was at Georgia almost every week, and he ended up committing to Auburn.

I truly think this may be a similar situation with Gibbs and Alabama.

He will make his commitment at the Under Armour All-America Game on Jan. 1.

Tagovailoa receives visit from Oregon

New Oregon coach Willie Taggart wasted no time trying to shoot his shot on his first full day on the job. Taggart flew out to Hawaii on Thursday to visit Alabama quarterback commit Tua Tagovailoa and his cousin, Myron Tagovailoa, a 3-star defensive end.

Tagovailoa’s father, Galu, spoke with SEC Country Thursday night and said it was mainly a courtesy visit.

“They’re supposed to be out here to see my nephew (3-star defensive end Myron Tagovailoa) and they just wanted to speak to Tua. I’m fine with it,” Galu Tagovailoa said. “I know he’s a new coach and he wants to get the energy going, but at the same time, we expressed to him that Tua is locked in to Alabama. He just wanted a chance to speak with him, and I’m fine with it.”

I think there would be more cause for concern if the Ducks had more time to recruit him. The connection to Oregon is an obvious one — Marcus Mariota, who went to Tagovailoa’s high school, won a Heisman Trophy for the Ducks and remains close to the Alabama quarterback commit. Tagovailoa idolizes Mariota, but Oregon never strongly pursued the lefty for whatever reason.

Tagovailoa likes Oregon, but there’s not enough time for him to strongly consider the school at this point with the dead period approaching Sunday at midnight. He’s an early enrollee and will be at Alabama this January.

Baker canceling Georgia trip is big for Alabama

Elliot Baker, the nation’s No. 1 junior college tackle, told SEC Country earlier this week that he was leaning toward taking an official visit to Georgia this weekend. That no will longer happen.

The importance of canceling that trip is big because Georgia has a serious need for experienced offensive linemen and that message would have been drilled in his head all weekend. Let’s be real, the opportunity to play immediately at Georgia is much greater than Alabama.

But, Baker is a prospect who could potentially play right away at Alabama. With Cam Robinson likely gone to the NFL after the season, there will be one tackle spot open. Baker potentially could fill the void left by Robinson and play either left or right tackle.

The 6-foot-7, 300-pound prospect will sign his letter of intent on Dec. 14.

Alabama 2017 class snapshot

Alabama has a good chance to have the nation’s No. 1 class for the seventh straight year. The Tide are in the running for several more 5-stars such as Baron Browning, Trey Smith, Isaiah Wilson, Shaun Wade and JaCoby Stevens. As it stands now, this actually might be Alabama’s best class in the Nick Saban era because it has commitments from a top-class running back, two future play-making quarterbacks, a bookend left tackle and more.

Where it ranks?

Alabama’s 2017 class is ranked No. 1 in the country. It passed Ohio State for the top spot once Jedrick Wills committed.

As is standard in the Nick Saban era, the majority of Alabama’s commitments are of the blue-chip variety, meaning they are either rated 4- or 5-star prospects. For context purposes, the Tide have 24 pledges, including four 5-star recruits (RB Najee Harris, OT Alex Leatherwood, LB Dylan Moses and WR Jerry Jeudy), 14 4-star prospects and 5 3-star talents.

Who are Alabama’s top 2017 commitments?

5-star RB Najee Harris
5-star OT Alex Leatherwood
5-star WR Jerry Jeudy
5-star LB Dylan Moses
4-star QB Tua Tagovailoa

Who committed to Alabama this week?

Daniel Wright, a 4-star safety from Boyd Anderson High School (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), flipped from Florida State to Alabama on Thursday. He fills a big hole in the secondary for the Class of 2017.

Who de-committed from Alabama this week?

Alabama hasn’t had a de-commitment since late October when 4-star linebacker Gary Johnson backed off his commitment. He took a class in junior college that would not have been accepted by SEC schools. He could have chosen to retake the class and remained in Alabama’s class, but it would have delayed his enrollment into a four-year university. Jhavonte Dean, a 3-star junior college cornerback, is someone Alabama fans should keep an eye on as far as the next de-commitment.

Who are Alabama’s top remaining targets?

5-star offensive tackle Isaiah Wilson
5-star cornerback Shaun Wade
4-star safety DeAngelo Gibbs
4-star defensive tackle Aubrey Solomon
4-star defensive end LaBryan Ray
4-star wide receiver Henry Ruggs III

In case you missed it...

Alabama received some good news from one of the best players in the country at a major position of need.

Daniel Wright, a 4-star safety from Boyd Anderson High School (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), the former school of current Tide safety Eddie Jackson, flipped his commitment from Florida State to Alabama after receiving an in-home visit from Nick Saban, offensive line coach Mario Cristobal and defensive backs coach Derrick Ansley earlier this week. With the commitment of Wright, the Crimson Tide have now solidified one of the biggest question marks in the Class of 2017. There were several safety targets on the board, but it didn’t seem like any of them were strongly considering Alabama until recently.

The Under Armour All-American took an official visit to Tuscaloosa on Nov. 12 for the Mississippi State game with Alabama as his No. 2 school, but that trip ultimately helped the Tide become his top team.

Wright recently emerged as a possible safety target because he wasn’t planning on visiting other schools after his commitment to the Seminoles this summer. Tide offensive line coach Mario Cristobal needs to be credited with a big recruiting victory here as he consistently was in Wright’s ear about making a trip to Tuscaloosa before he enrolled at Florida State.

The question now becomes will Alabama add another safety in the Class of 2017. DeAngelo Gibbs, a 4-star safety from Grayson High School (Loganville, Ga.), has emerged as one of the Crimson Tide’s top targets regardless of position, and it’s very possible he could be that guy even though Georgia is considered the strong favorite in his recruitment.

Wright is ranked as the nation’s No. 14 safety and will be an early graduate, so he’ll be on campus this January. He also becomes the second former Florida State commit to flip to Alabama as he joins 4-star linebacker VanDarius Cowan.

Wright is the younger brother of former Florida great and current Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive back Major Wright.

The 6-foot-2, 187-pound prospect becomes Alabama’s 24th commitment in the Class of 2017. Alabama is still ranked No. 1 in the team rankings ahead of Ohio State.

Alex Leatherwood isn’t the only Alabama offensive line commit visiting Florida.

Kendall Randolph, a 4-star offensive tackle from Madison, Ala., is eyeing a trip to UF next month.

“Florida is talking heavily to me,” Randolph told SEC Country. “I plan on taking an official visit there Jan. 17. I just want to see how the campus is and see what Florida is like.”

Randolph is one of four offensive tackles committed to the Crimson Tide, while the Gators have just one pledge at the position (Kadeem Telfort). Telfort will visit UF this weekend along with Leatherwood.

Florida offensive line coach Mike Summers has been selling early playing time to Randolph, a U.S. Army All-American.

“Coach Summers has been telling me that if I go to Florida I could possibly get on the field early,” Randolph said. “That’s really not how my mindset is. Wherever I go — if I push myself — I’m going to get on the field regardless. It really doesn’t matter to me how many commits there are. I know I’m going to work hard and get on the field somehow.”

Randolph is ranked the nation’s No. 22 offensive tackle and No. 195 overall recruit. Following his trip to UF, the 6-foot-5, 290-pound prospect is scheduled to officially visit Alabama on Jan. 22.

Despite his interest in the Gators, Randolph claims he’s solid with the Crimson Tide.

“I’m pretty locked in with Alabama,” Randolph said. “I’ve been an Alabama fan since I was young. It really can’t get better than Alabama. Fans shouldn’t worry about the (Florida) visit at all. I love Alabama and that’s where I want to spend my four years.”
