Where does Alabama turn if Harris de-commits?

Alabama does have another running back commitment in the Class of 2017 in 4-star prospect Brian Robinson, who hails from Tuscaloosa.

Robinson and Harris are not nearly on the same talent level, but to be fair to the former, no running back prospect is really in the same league as Harris.

Robinson is a big, bulldozer-type of running back, but he lacks the ability to break away from opposing defenses. With his size at 6-foot-2, 216 pounds, he also doesn’t shed the amount of tackles you think he would.

The Tide would take a big hit if Harris were to de-commit, but there are several options for Alabama:

Cam Akers, 5-star, Clinton, Miss.

Akers was once committed to Alabama, but he de-committed from the Tide in March. He will take an official visit to Alabama on Oct. 22 for the team’s game against Texas A&M, but Akers is a long shot to rejoin the class.

If Harris were to de-commit, and Akers could be the featured back in Alabama’s class, would he start to consider the Tide more strongly? That is a question that I’d like to get the answer to.

Akers is rated as the nation’s No. 2 running back.

Anthony McFarland, 4-star, Hyattsville, Md.

McFarland told SEC Country this summer at The Opening in July that Alabama was his leader. Since then, Maryland, the in-state school, has been the one with the momentum its way.

That could be because numbers are very tight in Alabama’s class, and it looks highly unlikely that the Tide would sign three running backs this year.

If Harris were to de-commit, we could see Alabama pursue the all-purpose back more intensely.

Travis Etienne, 3-star, Jennings, La.

Before abruptly committing to Texas A&M this summer — he has since de-committed from the program — Alabama was Etienne’s leader.

The Tide did reach out to him this summer after he de-committed, but that was when numbers in the class weren’t so tight.

Etienne may be the best bet to replace Harris if he were to de-commit.

Akers would be the ideal replacement if we were to lose Harris.

DALLAS - The nation’s No. 7 weakside defensive end Jarell Cherry(Dallas/Carter) said Alabama sticks out early on among his four offers.

“Being able to speak on the phone with coach Nick Saban was a big deal for me,” Cherry said “It was a great experience for me. I get notice for everything that goes on. They keep me posted.”

SMU, Texas, Oklahoma and Texas Tech have also offered Cherry (6-3, 230).

“I do like Texas Tech as well,” Cherry said. “The whole family thing they have going on there. I’ve seen guys I know that have went there and done well. Texas is big. Everything they do is big. Their first game against Notre Dame they played very well. They like to put on a big show.”

He said he’s hoping for Arkansas, Georgia and Florida State to offer.

The Mustangs offered first.

The four-star 2018 prospect hopes to visit all of those programs for games this fall.

Cherry is ranked as the nation’s No. 7 weakside defensive end and the No. 34 prospect in Texas in the 2018 class by 247SportsComposite.

As a sophomore, Cherry had 46 tackles and seven sacks.

The Crystal Ball reads 100-percent for Texas.

I wonder if the emergence of D. Harris and Jacobs is affecting N. Harris? With Bo most likely coming back next year, I wouldn't mind if Bama only took Harris in this class. Tell him he is the only running back Bama wants. It would be a huge loss if Bama loses him.

It's possible, likely be Emmons. But I don't think any of them will leave after this year.

Just because Harris is looking at other options doesn't mean you drop an extremely talented local talent like Brian Robinson just to appease him.

That was a little different situation. There were four RBs in the 2013 class. I think we always felt 1-2 would leave. All but Henry were gone after 2014.

Harris is a can't miss talent, Robinson has been a little disappointing this year and isn't near the caliber of player that Harris is.

Most people thought Bo would jump to the NFL after this year, that isn't likely to happen now. Everybody will likely be back at running back next year, so you might not need to take 2 Running backs in this class. Bama has needs elsewhere that spot could be filled.

Honestly. Always take at least two. Just like you always take a QB. Depth can turn on a dime. You're never deep enough.

The way Kamara left and supposedly trying to torpedo recruiting shocked me. What was done to him besides getting a redshirt?

Spot on.

Bama has taken at least 2 RB under Saban every year...

I'm not too worried about Najee. The OV should seal the deal.

Hank actually said Shaun Wade's visit was unofficial. He will either official for the A&M or Auburn game.
