I think Moses was going to Bama, even had Miles stayed. I think the Miles reason was just a way to be nice and it was convenient.

Ohio State has been getting some CBs for two defensive backs. I wonder if that has anything to do with Shaun Wade flipping?

Alabama is set to sign the top linebackers class in the country come February, and will have a great shot at landing another top 'backer in the 2018 class down the line.

Four-star, Shelby (N.C.) product Dax Hollifield visited Tuscaloosa last weekend for the first time.

He doesn't hold an offer yet, but he said this:

quote:

"Everything," he said of what the offer would mean to him. "That's my dream school. I'd love to go there."

Buggs talks Alabama

Isaiah Buggs hasn’t visited Tuscaloosa yet, but he remains highly interested in Alabama. That’s a good thing for the Crimson Tide’s chances because if he does end up taking an official visit, which he is expected to, Alabama could become a probable college choice for him.

Buggs, a 4-star defensive end from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, told SEC Country’s Sam Spiegelman that he sees a big need for defensive linemen in the Class of 2017.

“They’re losing everyone on the defensive line over there, so it would be a great opportunity for me if I go there,” Buggs said.

He remains a top priority for the Alabama staff but expecting him to sign with the Tide at this time wouldn’t be a wise prediction because he hasn’t visited once. He’s visited his other top schools (Auburn, LSU and Ole Miss) before but still hasn’t made his way to Tuscaloosa.

The 6-foot-5, 280-pound prospect hears from Alabama often and was nothing but complimentary of the Tide staff.

“Alabama is a great school,” Buggs said. “They got a great head coach and a great coaching staff over there. The coaches there … man it’s a good program over there.”

LSU was considered the favorite for his commitment before Les Miles was fired by the school. Buggs, who is originally from Ruston, La., tweeted shortly after the news broke that Miles had been fired that he needed to start “looking at things differently.”

The Tigers staff wasted no time reaching out to one of their top recruiting targets.

“They got in touch with me and told me to stay focused and continue to be the guy that I am,” Buggs said. “They just want me to leave it on the field every time. Coach (Ed) Orgeron, Coach (Bradley Dale) Peveto — they called me and told me to stay focused and stay humble, that’s all. I’m one of their top recruits, so they find a way to get in touch with me. I just stay strong and believe that God will lead me in the right direction.”

In addition to Buggs, Alabama is targeting 4-star prospects LaBryan Ray, Aubrey Solomon, Phidarian Mathis, Elijah Conliffe and Ryan Johnson on the defensive line in this recruiting class.

Johnson breaks school record

Alabama linebacker commit Gary Johnson, a 4-star prospect from Dodge City (Kan.) Community College, broke that school’s tackle record this weekend, according to his linebackers coach Michael Starkey.

The previous record at the school was 176 and Johnson has 179 tackles in his career. How impressive of a stat is that? Consider the fact that Johnson broke the record in just 18 games.

Johnson remains a priority for the Alabama staff, but he previously told SEC Country that he’s only 70 percent committed to the Tide. It’s odd, though, because he has also said that Alabama is his dream school.

Johnson is expected to take official visits elsewhere, but he hasn’t scheduled any yet. His recruitment is currently a mystery.

If Johnson did decide to reopen his recruitment, expect Alabama to put the full-court press on 4-star prospect Jacob Phillips, who took an official visit to Tuscaloosa this past weekend.

Benton receives Under Armour jersey

Markail Benton, a 4-star linebacker from Central High School (Phenix City, Ala.), showed up to his Under Armour All-American jersey ceremony wearing a white, collared Alabama polo, showing everyone in attendance he’s still firmly committed to the Crimson Tide.

Benton, who committed to Alabama this summer, will be one of several Crimson Tide commits/targets playing in the prestigious all-star game on New Year’s Day. Alabama commits Alex Leatherwood, Dylan Moses and Jerry Jeudy will play alongside Benton, while top targets Isaiah Wilson, DeAngelo Gibbs, Tyler Shelvin, Phidarian Mathis, LaBryan Ray, Anthony McFarland, Todd Harris, Jedrick Wills, Chris Allen and Ryan Johnson will also play.

Benton is one of four linebackers committed to Alabama in the Class of 2017, as Moses, Johnson and VanDarius Cowan are the others. Benton is scheduled to enroll at Alabama in May.

Probably not. JUCOs typically don't get a 5th star unless they are a lineman.

Entering your college career as a five-star prospect brings with it pressure that less heralded signees do not experience. These five wide receivers handled the pressure the best and lived up to the high billing they received in high school.

Julio Jones

Why he’s No. 1: Jones was a first-round draft pick and has been selected to the Pro Bowl in three of his first five NFL seasons. Jones made massive impact as a true freshman at Alabama and hasn’t left the spotlight since. He’s been a dominant force at every level and he’s just now entering his prime. On Sunday, Jones became just the sixth player in NFL history to accumulate 300 receiving yards in a single game.

Back when we met him: Jones was a Signing Day decision and his commitment was aired live on ESPNU. The fanfare it brought was certainly warranted. Rivals National Recruiting Director Mike Farrell remembers scouting the NFL star. “He was one of the most physically gifted and powerful wide receivers I've ever scouted, he had hands like a vice and bowled opponents over after the catch,” Farrell said.

ALABAMA'S 2017 CLASS PASSES THE EYE TEST

Alabama, in a stunner, is No. 1 in the Rivals.com Team Recruiting Rankings, followed by Ohio State at No. 2. It's fitting as the two programs have emerged over the last several years as arguably the top two in the country.

Our Rivals.com points system takes out any perceived bias and simply compares the top 20 prospects in each class. But what about the human element? That’s what I’m here for and, right now, I would agree with the current order of Tide and then Buckeyes.

Offensively, I like Alabama's offensive line 1-2 punch of Alex Leatherwood and JUCO stud Elliot Baker slightly better than Ohio State's duo of Josh Myers and Wyatt Davis. At wide receiver, I give the edge to the Buckeyes with Trevon Grimes and Tyjon Lindsey over Jerry Jeudy. I like the Tide's combination of Tua Tagovailoa and Mac Jones at quarterback more than the dynamic Tate Martell. And at running back, Najee Harris is one of the top four most gifted backs I’ve ever seen, which gives Alabama the edge despite how much I like J.K. Dobbins.

On defense, the edge goes to the Buckeyes at defensive back with a great group led by five-star Shaun Wade while the Tide have the edge at linebacker with Vandarius Cowan, Markail Benton and newly committed Dylan Moses. Ohio State gets the edge at defensive line with Chase Young and Haskell Garrett as the 1-2 punch but Alabama has more athletes and versatile players overall.

It’s tight and the Tide have a shot at many more difference makers down the stretch to increase their lead. But when it comes to classes that could impact the national title picture, both programs are assembling that kind of talent.

Some of the more successful five-stars to this point have been Julio Jones, who is coming of a 300-yard reception game on Sunday with Atlanta, Andre Smith and Jamies Winston.

6. Louisiana (19)
T-7. Virginia (18)
T-7. Maryland/Washington D.C. (18)

It looks like picking up Dylan Moses is going to cause us to miss on Jacob Phillips.

He just got two more CBs to Oklahoma with Steve Wiltfong stating he thinks we don't have room for him after the Moses' commitment.

Best of luck to him.
