The final Top247 for the class of 2016
quote:
LB, Tre Lamar – Clemson commit (No. 37)
You won't find many of Lamar's breed in any class. He's got length, athleticism and physicality and proved it at Under Armour practices.
DE, Nick Coe –Auburn commit (No. 55)
Give me a nationally ranked wrestler with a 6-6 frame and 4.7 speed and I'll take him sight unseen. It just so happens that Coe also put together outstanding senior film too.
DT, Leki Fotu – Utah commit (no. 57)
This kid came out of nowhere as a senior in Utah after matriculating from the rugby field. At 6-foot-6 with a great motor, the Tongan will be the next great Utah defensive lineman.
DE, Andrew Fitzgerald – Texas commit (No. 97)
He checks every box. He's got great size, combine athleticism, strength at the point of attack and he's got a big time motor. He makes his move up after dominating the Semper Fi practices.
RB, BJ Emmons – Alabama commit (No. 99)
He steps out of the Alabama running back mold at Nick Saban's talent factory. At the Under Armour game, Emmons showed off the size, power and burst that has given Alabama so much success in the run game.
CB, Tyler Byrd – Miami commit (No. 103)
A star all week long at the Army Bowl. Byrd has some intangibles to him at cornerback but he also has track speed, he can support the run and he showed elite coverage ability on the big stage at the Army Bowl.
DE, Andre Anthony – LSU commit (No. 110)
The twitchy speed rusher off the edge that is tough to find in this class. Ed Orgeron may have inherited a shallow defensive line pool at LSU but with guys like Anthony, he's building the depth quickly.
CB, Carlos Becker – Uncommitted (No. 113)
This year's version of Carlton Davis who was a true freshman All-American at Auburn this fall. Becker is big, strong, fast and was outstanding all week at Under Armour.
WR, N'Keal Harry – Arizona State commit (No. 116)
He's a possession receiver but he's one of the best possession receivers in this class. Harry's size and body control at that size along with elite ball skills make him a tough matchup at any level.
DE, Amani Bledsoe – Uncommitted (No. 125)
This dude is just an ox along the defensive front. He plays with get-off and strength at the point of attack. He and Fitzgerald were the two best players at the Semper Fi Bowl.
Big Risers
OG, Michael Onwenu – Michigan commit (72 up to 36)
He just beats whoever you put in front of him. He's dominated every camp he's attended. Opposing high school coaches have raved about his impact in games and he was outstanding in yet another setting at the Army Bowl.
S, Jordan Fuller – Uncommitted (91 up to 41)
Opposing wide receivers at the Army Bowl talked all week about Fuller being their toughest matchup. Whether he's a corner, a safety or an offensive threat, Fuller just shows out.
OG, John Simpson – Uncommitted (103 up to 43)
A 6-4 guard with the length and quickness to play tackle but the versatility to play every other position on the offensive line. What coach isn't signing up for that? Simpson was steady all week at the Army Bowl.
DE, Antonneous Clayton – Florida commit (226 up to 50)
The fastest edge rusher in the country. Clayton had an awesome week at Under Armour and nobody had a bigger jump within the Top247 based on that performance.
DT, Kendell Jones – Alabama commit (185 up to 79)
The best nose guard Alabama has landed since Terrence Cody. His nickname of "Hulk" is also the most fitting since "Mount Cody".
RB/ATH, Sewo Olonilua – TCU commit (164 up to 85)
The last running back to surprise us like this at the Army Bowl was named Christian McCaffrey. Olonilua and McCaffrey are very different types of backs but both arrived at the Army Bowl as "athletes" and became their team's best running back by week's end.
OT, Kellen Diesch – Texas A&M commit (235 up to 101)
This is Texas A&M's best shot of keeping its tradition of offensive tackle first round picks alive. Diesch has great length, is relatively new to the position and plays with a mean streak.
RB, Devwah Whaley – Arkansas commit (201 up to 124)
He's about to become the focal point of Arkansas' offense. He took advantage of the Under Armour Game to assert himself as one of the best backs in the nation.
Tough Calls
What to do with a nose guard?
Kendell Jones is a nose guard. He doesn't have a skillset to be anything other than that on the next level. With that limitation how high can we really go with his ranking? Considering he's about as good in that role as anyone we've seen in a while, we decided that Top100 is a worthy benchmark (76th). After all, the guy we're comparing him to – Terrence Cody – was drafted 57th overall in 2010.
The QB pecking order
At the quarterback position this year, it was the top two then everyone else. Shea Patterson and Jacob Eason are on a different level than their counterparts but that's not to say the upside isn't there for some others.
Michigan commit Brandon Peters is the closest to having that five-star toolset with size, athleticism and a big arm. He just didn't do enough at the Army Bowl to get over that five-star hump.
Malik Henry was the best the quarterback out of an Under Armour group that struggled all week. Henry though had his moments and if he puts it all together, he has the ability to be as good as anyone in this class at Florida State.
The second best quarterback in California is Nebraska commit Patrick O'Brien. There was even some legitimate five-star discussion for O'Brien after an outstanding senior season but we felt the arm strength didn't pot enough yet to hit that threshold.
In terms of upside, nobody has more than Florida commit Feleipe Franks. He can flick it 70 yards and he's 6-6 with athleticism but he's not a guy that looks comfortable in the pocket right now and he'll be best if he's given some time to learn and develop in Gainesville before he steps under center.
Pitt commit Thomas MacVittie remains my wildcard in the 2016 class. We're way out on a limb (88th in the country) with a kid that has only started one season as a quarterback. His size, athleticism and delivery are special though.
It would have been fun to see the No. 106 ranked player, Jalen Hurts, play in an All-American game. Just a hunch here, but the Alabama commit has got the mobility and the competitive juices to step on campus and beat out some older quarterbacks on that roster.

That's hurtful. Take it back.
Is there anyone who didn't like TideSports? Easily the best Bama forum there was.

Just got off the phone with my bud who goes to school with AJ Brown. Ole Miss/Alabama battle with Alabama likely landing him.
80/20 Bama at the moment.

Hank just posted this:
quote:
The nation's No. 1 player and defensive end in the country Jonathan Kongbo has made change of plans with his official visits.
Instead of visiting Alabama this coming weekend, the 6-foot-5, 264-pound Kongbo is expected travel to Florida State on an official visit, a source tells BamaOnline.
Kongbo, a one-time Tennessee commit, is expected to officially visit Alabama the final weekend of the month.
The Tide has turned up the heat on the top JUCO prospect since offering earlier last month. UA head coach Nick Saban saw Kongbo on Monday.
Too bad he won't be in town for the celebration but at least we get the last visit.

Made a new thread for you guys to argue about insider status. Keep that stuff out of this thread please. This place is usually a great place to go for recruiting info.
Not the last couple days with all the nonsense.

He was asked by us to change date because of too many visitors on 22nd. Seems like Kongbo is ours to lose. Very excited about him.

I clicked on this thread, read the last few pages, and thought, "How did I end up in the Auburn recruiting thread?"
Posted on 1/20/16 at 3:18 pm to BIGJLAW
We've got two weeks left until signing day. I doubt Saban is spending his time on players with whom we have no chance when we have other comparable prospects still on the board. Tells me we still have a shot with Hardman but that we are probably on the outside looking in. Forgive me but I'm a bit skeptical of "new info" that confirms what most of us expected the whole time. Seems to me like it has very little to do with the new information and more to do with being out-recruited for that prospect. Does that make sense?
